Instead of talking about a fascist that got his karma handed to him, can we talk about the obvious fucking rise of anti-Black violence happening even more so?
Trey Reed was MURDERED; it was not a "suicide." This was a fucking lynching by some white man who broke both of his arms and legs and had him hanging from a tree.
No investigation
No public news broadcast highlighting this
His own family having to fight to say he didn't do this to himself.
Nothing.
Not. A. Damn. Thing
I don't want to hear about fucking "compassion" or "understanding" and all this other bullshit when it comes to fascists, white supremacists, white nationalists, and anything that coexists within pure, unadulterated racist hatred. I want you to have that same motherfucking energy when it comes to people who ACTUALLY should be having that, that we should ACTUALLY be fighting for and highlighting what really MATTERS.
Whether you are white or a non-Black POC, if you actually give a fuck and are not performing, make this known and speak on it because damn sure no one listens to us when we say it.
On the heels of my poll that had tumblr showing as 76% White, I’d like to tell y’all about the BIPOC Attention Tax.
The BIPOC Attention Tax is the penalty that non-white folks pay in engagement for being non-white on social media sites...
More below the cut
The BIPOC Attention Tax fucks up all BIPOC, but it fucks up trans BIPOC in particular due to being multiply marginalized. It’s the penalty you pay in engagement for being non-white on social media, taken in less shares/visibility.
While the BIPOC Attention Tax affects most BIPOC, it affects SWers, content creators, and those who rely on mutual aid the most. You have to share our stuff more than you think. You have to reply to us more than you think. It’s in how we watch smaller white accounts double our size in no time at all but if our accounts show any sign of being BIPOC we lag behind.
We’re societally conditioned to pay more attention to the thin, white, conventionally attractive folks and amplify them. While this ain’t their fault, it does mean *you* need to put active effort into subverting that urge and be conscious of who/how you’re interacting with.
Don’t just like posts from BIPOC folks, stop worrying about your “profile aesthetic”, sharing a post literally takes 3 seconds and especially in the case of SW and MA can literally keep folks housed, fed, alive. Our content, our art, our lives and survival fucking matter.
White trans folks have more options to leverage their whiteness to escape the states criminalizing transition, medical care, existing in public while trans. Not only do TBIPOC suffer the effects of poverty more/worse, but the BIPOC Attention Tax makes crowdfunding/mutual aid much harder as well.
Even in terms of just bullshit discourse, TBIPOC will often get higher rates of harassment at lower follower counts than their white counterparts, without the “benefits” of easier/more successful SW or MA that come at the higher follower counts, increasing the toll for staying.
Many of the white folks I see on social media (including tumblr), especially white trans folks, will have one or two token BIPOC moots they keep around because they’re hot or funny, and otherwise have no BIPOCs in their groups, networks, etc.
Ask yourself, how many BIPOC folks would call YOU their friend?
I know shit is hard right now and we wanna escape and pretend things ain’t happening but the longer we do that, the more of us die or disappear without anyone knowing or noticing. But we can at least be more intentional in who we engage with and support, even if it’s just sharing/boosting.
white t girl i love you. and also do not forget that you are not the modern martyr for the oppressed voice. that's still black girls. it's always been black girls. stories of black martyrdom simply don't make it into the news cycle until the unrest caused by its reporting can be packaged as a "riot" segment between traffic reports. i know you suffer, but whatever you're experiencing, i beg you, when interacting with your community and building nuanced understandings of each other and the system which binds us, to not forget that a black tgirl has felt it 100 times worse before positioning yourself as an authority on all systems of oppression for having suffered unjustly at all. because you have suffered unjustly, but suffering unjustly as a white person means something so much different.
serenely reblogging this once more after deleting responses from white people saying "talking about this is actually unhelpful because im oppressed too" yeah i know. i wrote that down in the post i made, and i also wrote down why remembering the difference is important. did you read it?
there is no malice in my reminder. no "you need to do better", just a reminder. do not read it as such. i didn't write it as such.
again. i did not say you were not oppressed. this post is literally about how you are oppressed. it is a reminder that you are not the most oppressed person in the world, a way i've seen a lot of white transfems acting lately. maybe not even necessarily in a detrimental way, but in a way that definitely leans towards the "white is default" lane of thinking, which erases black suffering, which erases progress towards black safety. this, to me, is troubling, which is why i made this post. it's important when building solidarity within our community to understand who the most vulnerable of us are, because the safety of the most vulnerable of us will ultimately be the safety of all of us.
please do not be offended when you are reminded that your skin is white. im not calling you evil. im asking you to remain aware of yourself.
Thing is that I’m not the only Black trans woman writing theory on transfeminism, Black transfeminism, or trans intersectionality - I’m just lightskinned and won’t shut up so I’m one of the most visible ones, and crackers STILL get mad at me for saying the most basic-ass concepts like “white people are still white even if they’re otherwise marginalized”
In many cases, intracommunity racial intersectionality fails because given the choice between solidarity with nonwhite trans people and white people (trans or cis), white trans people will almost always side with other whites in the hopes of preserving a degraded position within white supremacy, because they internally see being “lesser” within whites supremacy but still above nonwhites as preferable to solidarity with nonwhites that loses them that positionality.
I wanna toss this link on here because it’s directly related to the whole “lack of intracommunity solidarity when race is involved” thing and has a specific example from my local community.

I do think with news of the ceasefire, everyone should read up on what the ceasefire actually means and what the different phases of the ceasefire are. here's a good source for what we know as of now:
Ceasefire reportedly agreed, including a prisoner exchange and aid surge, after more than 460 days of conflict.
Some of my initial takeaways are:
this ceasefire is temporary (as of right now, six weeks long). negotiations will continue but israel is not offering guarantees about continued non-violence. BDS remains important. be vigilant, keep pressure up
rafah crossing will open one week after the initial phase starts
israel will release 2000 prisoners
more aid will get to northern gaza, look out for ways you can help
if the second phase is initiated, israel will do a complete withdrawal from gaza. which means the initial phase will not include that. again i say: BE VIGILANT
if the third phase is reached, reconstruction will begin "under international supervision"
nothing is over, even if this is a relief. do not tap out, do not tune out.

Do not really know what to say. A year ago we were making posts about how Gaza was being bombed through Christmas- how the oldest Christian community was being bombed- how the birth place of Jesus was being destroyed and his people murdered. A year later, it is going to be Christmas again soon, and the bombings have not stopped. But the news, and the attention seems to have died down considerably. It feels terrible and scary.
While in past years we celebrated New Year's in the streets and hotels of Gaza, today there are no signs of this left. The Zionists have destroyed everything. Stones and trees have fallen, but strength will not fall from our souls, God willing.
We hope that the celebrations this year will bear the slogan of a ceasefire in Gaza, a cease to genocide, and a halt to the killing of children. Yesterday I said goodbye to my cousin, and before that to my friends.
The years have become painful memories for us. We now want with all our might to stop this genocide.
Please donate to Siraj. In this festival of giving, consider donating even a little. There are ten children in the family all of whom should have had the chance to celebrate like the rest of the world. However, as it is now, there is very little left to celebrate in Gaza. But the funds donated will help as it will go into providing the kids and the rest of the family with the bare necessities.

this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now 👐

We decided to run a campaign to collect donations for two reasons. The first reason is to provide the daily food that we obtain with difficulty due to the extreme high prices due to the closure of the crossings. The second reason for leaving the Gaza Strip is so that we can be safe and complete our education as a human being, and in order to leave Gaza, we need each individual $5,000 to coordinate the crossing. Help us with a small donation or by publishing our campaign so that everyone can see it and make our simple dream come true. Every donation or participation brings us to the goal.

i dont consider myself a 'fashion guru' by any means but one thing i will say is guys you dont need to know the specific brand an item you like is - you need to know what the item is called. very rarely does a brand matter, but knowing that pair of pants is called 'cargo' vs 'boot cut' or the names of dress styles is going to help you find clothes you like WAAAYYYY faster than brand shopping
this also goes for aesthetic or -core titles. 'y2k tank top' is going to get you resellers and fast fashion brands advertising to people looking to meet a current trend. 'thin strap crop tank top' is going to get you a diverse group of results and not upcharge you to hell and back
additionally, shop second hand when you can, second hand and thrift sites typically organize clothes by the cut and color. theyll be more affordable than a depop seller curating you a style to sell you
Contrary to the indications certain US reports, famine conditions remain in north Gaza due to the occupation’s unrelenting blockade. The scarcity of food has caused food prices to skyrocket, and it is unaffordable for the vast majority of people. Famine is a catastrophe in and of itself. But with winter fast approaching, it is compounded by another looming threat: hypothermia.
There is a long history of study on the relationship between malnutrition and hypothermia, particularly in children. Research shows that as a child’s body enters a state of starvation, the body slows down its functions and decreases its temperature to conserve energy. This can lead to hypothermia in young, malnourished children, even in mild climates.
Baby Ayla is one of thousands of children born into an invaded Gaza. Her young life has been marked by homelessness and hunger. Now her first winter is approaching. Ayla was not yet born for most of the previous winter, and she has had no exposure to the kind of cold, raw conditions that are incoming.
Ayla lives in a flimsy, drafty tent, leaving her exposed to harsh weather. She needs support in order to survive the winter. Warm clothing and winter gear are important steps toward this goal. However, she also needs nutritious food in order to fortify her body against the cold. If Ayla is not able to have baby formula and food, her risk for hypothermia will be compounded.
You can help give Ayla a fighting chance by supporting her mother Bashaer so that she can buy precious food. Not only will this help protect Ayla from starvation, it will also help her be strong enough to resist the coming cold weather. Please give her mother hope that they will survive this.
Thank you❤️
