DO:
Target your weak areas. Off the bat, think about what scares you the most… Biology, Physics, Chemistry, organic Chemistry, or verbal? Tackle that area first. If you can’t seem to master the subject, look into all of the resources available to...
1. SET / REVIEW / RECALL
The idea behind this strategy is goal setting. Before you dive in, Set the key ideas or lessons from this study session that you aim to understand or accomplish. Then organize your studying into modules to address each one. Follow a pattern of Review followed by a short Recall exercise in which you test your absorption. You can add recall from previous modules as you go to create a cumulative confirmation of what you are studying.
2. PREPARE FOR REVIEW
This strategy takes into account the understanding that you will be reviewing this material again at a later date. The goal is to create study tools for a later time as you go through the material. For example, create a flashcard for each important definition you come across. By working on building this toolset now, you’ll be able to capture what you find striking or difficult early on for review later. Also, when you do use those tools (e.g. flashcards, quiz sets, organizational lists or tables), use your gained understanding to edit and improve what you have created.
3. NOTE, THEN ANNOTATE
Combine focused reading with interspersed recall with this study strategy. The exercise here is to keep a running list of brief notes (perhaps only a couple words) of important keywords or ideas. Once your list reaches five items or so, break from your reading to annotate your own notes with what you can recall about each listed item. At the end of your study session, check back for accuracy in your annotations and make any corrections or add further detail. At the end of it all, you will walk away with a great review sheet!
4. JUST-IN-TIME READING
This a proactive strategy that requires you to think ahead for ways to test your knowledge of the material you are going to study. The idea is to begin your study session with a challenge, whether it be a problem set or an advanced topic. You may have already had some familiarity of the topic, such as a previous lecture, but the goal is to study not by rote review alone but with the objective of solving a problem or filling in a gap in your knowledge. By engaging your text or lecture notes with the intention of finding a solution, you may find yourself more focused and attuned to your true level of understanding.
5. RECURSIVE RECALL
The idea behind this strategy is to integrate recall events of the material you’ve already covered throughout your study session. One way to approach this is to create a flashcard or question set for each block of content. Then as you move from one part of your material to the next break in between to quiz yourself to recall what you just learned. Repeat this throughout your study session so that you will have multiple passes over new information and avoid the feeling at the end of a study period that you forgot everything you just read!

Day 1: Three Things I'm Happy For
Waking up in a good mood today. Picking myself up from the previous day, when I got almost nothing done.
I have a long-term goal to look forward to ; something that I'm truly passionate about
Loving, supportive, imperfect (that's a compliment), morally-sound family that's adapted to so many different and difficult circumstances; one that continues to thrive.
Stress
Things are starting to heat up. Organic II, Physics II, Bio lab, Linear algebra, Animal Physio all in one semester. And I'm trying to get a research position at a protein structure lab. And on top of that I need to be shadowing doctors and studying for my MCAT. I've never done this before.
I'm stressed and overwhelmed, and this is only the beginning. But I'm confident. It's weird trying to figure out this mix of apprehension, and a lot of times it's scary. Breaking things down works. A certain number of hours must be dedicated to each class per week, and a certain number of hours must be given to cooking, fitness, and reflection. Things that will suffer: socializing, wasting hours on Reddit and other useless internet sites that wind up numbing my brain. Focus. Focus.
Waking up stressed and anxious for so many days in a row puts you in a bizarre place. You start thinking about why you're stressing and realize that you're simply stressing about stress. There's a weird concoction of chemicals running through the body; sometimes it's magnificent, and others it's downright detrimental. The simplest tasks become almost impossible, the brain eventually just shuts down to stop it from driving itself crazy, the body starts twitching in weird places and that just adds to the stress, headaches appear, and the feeling of being trapped grows and grows and grows until..... well, until you just step away. Take a deep breath. Escape. Life is life, it's good to be alive. Even this feeling of stress is something to be cherished, in it's weird little way. There's no use in thinking the tiniest things over in so many different ways. The universe will go its course, and you will be a part of its breeze, deviating here and there but still always following its general direction. Stress tells you to do this and to do that, it's like an alarm clock or set of reminders that allow you to live and to progress. But other than that, why stress more? Life's good.

Things I'm Thankful For
1. My family. They're awesome. 2. The fact that I'm able to sit here and contemplate. It's freezing cold outside and I have a warm house to live in, a bed to myself, and no worries when it comes to finding food to eat. 3. College. Such a great opportunity to be going to a good school in America. I need to make the most of it. 4. It's been a pretty good day. I'm happy to be alive.
November 19th
Just checking in. It's 12:55PM right now, and I haven't had much of a day so far. Woke up around 9:30 and stayed in bed until 10:15. I don't feel too great about it but I'm happy that I've got my day going right now. I went over to Starbucks on campus after being done with brushing and showering. Got myself a pumpkin spice lol. I got some work done there (331), and read a chapter of Hesse's Siddhartha. I've only just started but it's definitely something different. Reading and breathing bought some peace to my mind (hence why I'm in a decent mood right now). I do feel some uneasiness right now but not nearly as much as before. Just have to delve into some sort of work I think. I should definitely go to the gym later today. I'm thinking of going after 331. It'll be crowded but at least I'm going. Ok, off to the bio lecture. I'm gonna do my best to pay attention!

Reflections
Just checking in, felt like I needed to write something...
This week has been a struggle, but things are getting better.
I love stepping outside, and looking at the evening sky. The gradients and the colors are just magical. There's absolutely nothing quite like nature's art. It's entrancing and reflective, and being able to appreciate it is remarkable in itself.
A product of nature being moved by another product of nature. To me, there's no desire to seek a greater motive when I'm staring into what I am.
Make memories that give you joy. Nostalgia is good. But don't let it turn into longing.
Recall the past. But acknowledge that this moment, too, will soon be in that past.
