"He's anti-establishment!" At this point I think you're just trying to make me like him more.

"His manager once called Farage a horrible cunt!" Well Farage *is* a horrible cunt, what's your point?

I’ll still take the chance to show mutuals that this is about the 130th anniversary of HX Cruises (formerly Hurtigruten) and the 1896 style cabin they built on MS Fritjof Nansen to commemorate the first expedition to Spitzbergen:

Guests can book the cabin for one night during their 2026 itineraries. Those who don’t want to book the cabin, can still tour it inbetween bookings. All proceedings made with the bookings go to their foundation.

They used reclaimed timber and tried to source as much as possible from antique dealers. They also developed a special aged timber and sea air scent that’s used for the cabin.

Guests booking the cabin will still join everyone else for dinner and breakfast and won’t get 1896 style catering. 😅

My wife and I did a Hurtigurten cruise for our honeymoon, and I’m pretty sure the “uh. What?!” Response to that ad is 100% on purpose. Their HX cruises aren’t exactly what you’d expect from most cruises; they’re comfortable and the food’s really good, but the focus is really on hiking, birdwatching, kayaking, fiber crafts, community science and history (no shipboard casino or water slides here). They have a herd of experts on these things on the crew. The historian on our trip was frothingly obsessed with 1. Vikings and 2. The Franklin Expedition. So were half the other passengers. So they know exactly what they’re invoking with that ad, and they know their customers will know and think it’s hilarious.

Every single person I know who did football in high school, without exception, has a chronic injury. Many regret what it's done to their knees and back, even major organs like the brain.

There is no serious legislative push to ban high school football.

Also, like, if you want to talk about social pressure on minors to undertake activities that will result in regrettable, irreversible damage to their bodies:

No one, *ever*, tried to persuade me to transition.

My gym teacher tried to persuade me to try out for the football team almost every single day that I was in junior high.

Not a single one of my wife's fingers is completely straight. If you look at them closely -- which I have, many times, over the past 22 years -- you can see where they were broken, over and over, taped in place, and where she just kept fucking playing.

When I first met her, she used to joke about how her coach said, "I could get more than that out of a pig if I kicked it hard enough," and that was the nicest fucking thing he said. Two decades later, she's like, "Yeah, that man verbally and physically abused all of us for years."

There is at least one football game she played in high school that she simply doesn't remember, because she was a linebacker. She got a concussion. She got up and kept playing... or so she's told. She doesn't remember, because she had a fucking concussion and they let her keep playing.

I hate football so much. It ruined her back, her knees, fucked up her hands... everyone was so obsessed with how tall she was, how broad-shouldered. No one ever pushed her to transition, but I fucking wish someone had at least suggested it. That would have hurt her so much less than FUCKING FOOTBALL. Like, it would have been actually beneficial to her.

I heard that one of the actual reasons that organizations like the NFL have tried so hard to downplay CTE and other injuries like it is because they’re terrified that moms will refuse to let their children play football anymore and that entire massive industry will come collapsing down because of it.

When I was at school, a local boy that we all knew died on the field during a rugby match (UK...). He broke his neck in a scrum. When my kids school said they were doing contact rugby in PE (so the PE teacher taking it, not a professional coach) I slammed an email to the Principal explaining my boy wasn't going to be participating and to find him a different group to be in. They did. The school I work at actually took rugby off the PE curriculum as it had led to so many injuries, and it took a kid petitioning the Head to have an extra curricula Rugby club set up. With a professional coach. Don't go along with it folks. It's nice being alive.
