Organic Coriander - Cilantro
Coriander or Cilantro as it is known as in some parts of the world is a very popular herb in the Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. I have just planted these pots into my terrace herb garden - they have been organically grown from seeds without the use of pesticides or synthetic herbicides.
The health benefits of coriander according to the www.whf.com {world’s healthiest foods} are widespread. In some parts of Europe coriander has been traditionally known to be referred to as an “anti-diabetic” plant and even used for its anti-inflammatory properties. Other more common health benefits include:
Control of Blood Sugar, Cholesterol, and Free Radical Production
Promotes health at the cellular level as it is a phyto-nutrient dense herb
It has a low G.I.
Rich in Vitamin K, A & C
I love adding coriander to my salads, guacamole, dips & garnish - pretty much everything as it is so versatile. It is commonly used in our Turkish cuisine. So not only is it beneficial to grow your own organic food where possible but studies show there are huge physical and mental benefits to gardening. Gardening can reduce stress and bring about mental clarity as you connect to nature and the earth. There is a lot of therapy one can have from the regular movement and exercise to sharing your home grown food with others and the connection it brings with mother nature. I don’t have a lot of space for a huge edible garden but have pots growing everywhere of all my herbs and a few little additions I will be making this autumn. So it doesn’t matter what you are planting edible food or beautiful blooms - the message here is to get out into the garden, get some vitamin D and connect with nature, because really our state of “being” needs a break from all the other distractions in life such as television, radio, computers and news.
Hope you enjoyed reading this and that you are a coriander - cilantro fan as I am. Happy Tuesday my friends.
