fairladymarian:
It was almost comical how quickly Zach had moved from sympathetic and caring to angry and aggressive. If she’d been in a better mood, she would have laughed it off and then teased him out of his mood until they could have a norma conversation again. Or he would have forgotten all about whatever had made him mad in the first place. Perks of being friends with someone with such quicksilver moods, she could usually adjust them as necessary.Â
But she couldn’t find it in her to manage that right now, so all she did was shake her head. “He’s just a man Zach. A man who can’t love me the way I wish he would, and who I was pathetic enough to hope would change even though he proved over and over again that he couldn’t. So. That’s entirely on me.” That explanation probably wouldn’t satisfy him, but it was the best she had to give at the moment.
Zach couldn’t help himself. Boys were idiots. And he knew that because, well, he was one. All he knew was that if some asshole did anything to hurt his friend they would have a major shit storm coming their way.Â
“No,” he said, his voice getting slightly raspier from anger, “you’re wrong. If he made you of all people feel little or pathetic in any way, than he’s not a man. He’s a boy. A boy who will get his head popped off by me if he makes you feel this way again. May come on, I know I might not seem like a knight in shinning armor but you really can trust me. I want to be a good friend. I want to help you. I want to help make this sadness go away and bring the old May back. The one who sometimes laughs at my jokes and is always right and kills on a broomstick.”
