i’m still so upset about noah being forgotten.

because what do you mean blue won’t remember that he was her first kiss. or that he always pet her spiky har. or that he would do anything for her. or that he would ask her out if he was alive. god, she may even have a scar on her face from noah’s unintentional attack and not know about where it really came from.

because what do you ronan won’t remember that that they were listeing to murder squash song together. or that they were building ramp. or that they were throwing things out of window (and well, throwing noah too). or that he wrote “remembered” on noah’s car.

because what do you mean gansey, who always thought that he was nothing to his friends and that they didn’t really care about him, won’t remember that he once had a friend who slid from time for him. who chose to be forgotten so that gansey could live.

Guys maybe someone else already thought of this but an AU where Ronan is basically Father Jud from Wake Up Dead Man ("young, dumb and full of Christ" lol) and Adam is Benoit Blanc (but younger ofc)??

i know that noah can only be seen by certain people, but i would have loved some scenes of whelk catching glimpses of him out of the corner of his eye. like gansey, adam and ronan are sitting in latin class and there’s an empty seat beside them, but when whelk turns around there’s a split second where that seat is occupied by a boy with blonde hair and a bruised cheek. i like the idea of noah doing it just to spite him and i like the idea of whelk having to contend with the boy he murdered being witness to not only his crimes, but also his failure to make anything of himself despite what he did to noah. i think it would have exacerbated his inferiority complex and i think that would have been sooo fun to read

do u ever think about how niall lynch was a devilishly handsome son of a bitch who was impossible not to like, naturally commanded the attention of everyone in the room, told stories as easily as breathing, ruled over his own particular corner of the world, didn’t even seem real until you knew him, died facedown on a gravel driveway, and then do you ever think about gansey.

thinking about noah as a gansey mirror again.

gansey with his journal crammed full of notes about his quest and whelk remembering noah’s handwriting scattered across their notes. their flashy cars. noah coming up with the idea for raven days and gansey being the raven king.

the fact that they both start the series as ghosts, that they have both died and somehow come back but the coming back didn’t fix everything. the fact that they both see something softer in ronan than what is on the surface, the fact that noah can kiss blue because he’s dead and that gansey can’t or he will die. the way gansey says excelsior before they start off and the way noah took the bold first steps into cabeswater.

the way that both of their deaths caused the ley line to stir, the way that both of them lived past those first deaths because of glendower. the way that noah comes back as something other and gansey, though he is perhaps something more real, does as well, and the way they both experience time not quite correctly, not quite linearly.

it’s noah who comments that he was something more when he was alive and gansey not just wanting but needing to find glendower because he feels that there is a hole inside of him. it’s the way that noah thinks that they wouldn’t have liked who he was when he was alive, and the way gansey hates that he can’t stop being a gansey. it’s how very real gansey looks when he’s next to noah.

it’s gansey planning to use glendower to save noah, even though he knows that this is the year he will die. it’s noah using glendower to save gansey, to give him a reason to go on, to meet the people who he will save and who will save him.

it’s gansey being rebuilt out of his friends’ memories of him and noah slipping slowly out of time.

I can’t stop thinking about this panel from The Dream Thieves graphic novel preview.

I find it incredibly meaningful that Aurora, the only Lynch allowed to remain at the Barns, is the only person whose gaze is visible. Niall’s eyes would be too if Ronan weren’t directly in front of his face. Instead Ronan is right underneath him with his blocked visage hanging over his head - alluding to the idea that we never see the true Niall, only the absence of him that defines Ronan’s character.

But what gets me about this even more so is the *lighting*. There are two light sources - one on the wall in the background and one lighting Ronan’s foreground.

In the background, the three Lynch brothers are predominantly lit. The shadow grazes juuuust over Matthew and Declan’s heads but splits straight through Ronan’s. Matthew and Declan can evade the supernatural, but it’s taken hold of Ronan’s mind.

The triangle of light reaches a peak at Aurora’s hair. Her curls are lit alongside her body, but her face - her mind - are in shadow. The shape then dips and shrouds Niall almost entirely in darkness.

Ronan himself is lit with shadows on his back and shoulders. He is carrying it with him, yet he is heading with his face towards the light.

HhhHGgggHH I am so normal about this series and the Lynch family and Sas Milledge is a genius and a scholar.

Spot the difference
