Out of the many sites you’re trying out, which do you like best at the moment?

We haven’t been able to take a good look at either Sharesome or Pillowfort since they are still in development.  For the time being, we have narrowed it down to Twitter and MeWe.  MeWe is very receptive to the Tumblr crowd, but the site has challenges with sharing, a key part of why we’re all here.  You have to type a link to the originating blog.  A link to the original poster does not travel with the original post unless you add it, so unless the poster or the sharer include a working link, it is hard to get back to the original blog.  Also, the notes for each separate share don’t travel with the original post and it’s a bit hard to keep up with (and thank) all of the people who share you.  They are supposedly fixing it, but we don’t know when that will happen.  Also, followers cannot just follow you as they do on Tumblr.  You have to approve them, which requires you to review their content first.  There are definite advantages and disadvantages to that.   

For old people like us, the pace of Twitter has been overwhelming, but the people there have been very kind to Tumblr evacuees and the sharing is much more intuitive and visible to would-be followers.  At the risk of aging ourselves, the organization of information (particularly replies) on Twitter are very hard to figure out, but liking and retweeting are similar to Tumblr.  Twitter feels much, much bigger than Tumblr or MeWe to us, but we’ve never been on Twitter, so it just may be a bigger learning curve for us. There also seems to be more policing of illegal posts and those who steal content.  Twitter followers are very vigilant to report anyone breaking the rules, which is very a positive thing.  Tumblr always failed at tracking this stuff down, but not Twitter.  The offenders get reported and taken down in hours. 

It is going to be a difficult decision for us.  We like both, but for very different reasons.  We are active in both right now.  It is a minefield for everyone, so we’re trying to help others as best we can in both places, because we know how scary it is to transition off this platform.

Brown Out Day

We should have what I'll call a "Brown Out" day where we all post nothing but up close pics of our buttholes and flood tumblr with butthole pics.

Just like everyone else, I’m upset with Tumblr’s decision. As many of you know, if you’ve done any research, Apple has ban Tumblr from their App Store. So, Tumblr has to ‘do something’ to show it’s working on eliminating its explicit content. Before you freak out and delete your content and/or blog…give it a few weeks. For those of us that have been here a few years, this has happened before. If you notice, they are utilizing a content scanning technology that tries to determine explicit content. Clearly the Jeep pic I posted isn’t explicit. And many explicit pics aren’t being tagged. This technology is like an viral scanning technology and you can apply filters and rules to it.

I’ve been blessed to build an amazing group of friends and support here that have helped me grow, change and become a more open minded person because of this site. Don’t be so rash to give up and dump your site. Write the admin team, write Apple and empower yourselves to be the change. If there is an alternative, we’ll all figure it out soon enough…but right now, they are merely showing us how the filters work and what on your blog will be impacted. Scroll through your previous posts to see what is impacted. Don’t just gut react. Educate yourselves.

For all of my friends and followers, I hope not to lose you. I’m sure I’ll miss a ton of people on this tag, but if you follow, please share. I’m not leaving until all the dust settles. Why go through the hassle and jump thru hoops to stay on a platform that clearly doesn't want us? How hard would it be for them to have an "adult" tumblr? I say burn the mother fucker down, figuratively, not literally. And best way to do that is to delete all our blogs but trash the shit out of tumblr in the process.
