Berliners are sending a piece of the Berlin Wall to Trump, with the message: “We would like to give you one of the last pieces of the failed Berlin Wall to commemorate the United States’ dedication to building a world without walls”
PIECE OF THE BERLIN WALL WITH MESSAGE FOR TRUMP GOES ON U.S.-MEXICO BORDER TOUR AFTER WHITE HOUSE REJECTS ‘GIFT’ 11/18/19
Dear President Trump,
This is an original piece of the Berlin Wall. For 28 years, it separated east and west, families, and friends.
It divided not only Berlin and Germany, but the whole world. Too many people died trying to cross it—their only crime being their desire to be free. Today the world celebrates the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Germany is united again, and only a few scattered pieces remind us that no wall lasts forever.
For decades, the United States played a major role in bringing this wall down. From John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, the Presidents of the USA fought against it.
We would like to give you one of the last pieces of the failed Berlin Wall to commemorate the United States’ dedication to building a world without walls.

Are they implying Mexico is a hellhole like East Germany? Or that Mexico and the Usa should be one country?
I think they mean there shouldn’t be restrictions as harsh as the Berlin Wall, regardless of what it separates
I love Germans thinking they have the position telling other places what to do.
kids doing drag is absolutely paedophillic and fucked up and Not Okay like i try to maintain some chill on this blog but i don’t care about context i don’t care about culture it is fucked up and wrong to put kids in miniskirts and heels and heavy makeup and make them strut down stages for adults to watch. it’s sick and if that’s your thing you’re sick.
This is America, non-white boy edition
“Heavy artillery”
Fuck off. Those dudes being armed is proof enough that being armed prevents police brutality and abuse. Protest them, a man was murdered by a knee to the neck for over 10 minutes. If you’re tired of being bullied, fucking stand up to it.
Ima be honest with you chiefs, if he had had a gun, he would have been shot by them and not knee choked
Then wear armor too. You don’t even need ceramic plates to stop pistol bullets, the soft armor you wear under a shirt is enough. Armor is also nearly unregulated compared to guns.
That’s all beside the fucking point, which was about the unarmed protesters getting curbstomped, and the armed protesters going totally untouched.
How the fuck can people keep seeing that and not understand that carrying guns made the difference?
You know this whole debacle in Minneapolis makes me really sad and I’m doing my best to stay out of it. I’ll make this one thread the only one I will ever respond to regarding it. What happened sounds horribly horribly wrong. From what I know of the story I believe people should be F’ing pissed. just like that other poor man who lost the woman in his life through no fault of his or her own. Have bonfires and even effigies if you like until the legal system is done with the case. Maybe some civil disobedience without breaking any real laws until a verdict is reached. Then if and or when the legal system fails then you take the next step.
These “protesters” are not protesting. They are not committing acts of civil disobedience. They are rioting and looting. There is violence and hatred there right now. Seeing that community act like animals and descend into such hate fueled violence makes me sad because it takes away so much gravity for the innocent dead. They should be ashamed of how they’re acting. I’m sure there are plenty there trying to stand in solidarity for Mr Floyd and his family and not embarrassing themselves but they are nearly impossible to see passed the thugs. I have no doubt there are strong Americans with good minds and pure hearts trying to tell the victim’s story but they can’t be heard over the din of destruction. We are barely even focused on the pigs who murdered this man and instead are watching communities implode and a divide getting larger by the day.
Actions have consequences
The gun rights support rallies did not commit any crimes. They cleaned up after themselves and did not pass a huge debt on to the local taxpayers. There was no destruction of private property. No one went to the hospital. And between the police and the protesters nearly everyone was armed and not a damn shot was fired.
An armed society is a polite society.
And trying to draw any type of parallel or comparison between the two events is just plain ignorant, stop it.
This is a bad take for a number of reasons. “A riot is the language of the unheard” - Martin Luther King Jr. People are rioting in response to violence. It’s called a protest. People didn’t listen when protesters were peaceful, so that’s why they took to destroying things. Historically, other movements have destroyed things: militant suffragettes and the stonewall riots are a couple examples. Also, this tweet seems to equate two completely different things. Damaging property is nowhere near killing a human being. Ultimately, riots are in response to grave injustice and probably won’t end until the grave injustices end.
Historically you didn’t have rights. Kill rioters.
I have a feeling all these “but it just property tho” people would change their tune REAL quick if it were THEIR property being trashed.
Ironically most of ‘em are socialist sympathizers. They really don’t possess any kind of empathy when it comes to other people’s money, property, well-being, etc…as long as it’s not THEIRS.
@theroguefeminist is suggesting the Dr. King supported the destruction of property, looting, and injury of the unrelated innocent to get a message across.
You know what he meant by “riot”? Fighting back against swarms of police who were actively keeping them from their rights. Resisting specifically against those in power who were treating you unjustly with violence. He wasnt saying to burn down low income apartment buildings and stealing from low income businesses, neither of which were even the cause of the anger in the first place.
And people did in fact pay attention to peaceful protests. Gandhi’s hunger strike, peaceful marching, the women’s march, marches to get politicians out of office, literally civil rights protests like sitting in “white’s only” sections of restaurants. These all made the papers. These all made waves. These all made points and started discussions for change.
We’ve spoken before you and you have less than a reasonable bias against men. Well men also face increased chances of police brutality compared to women. Men are more likely to be killed by police, falsely arrested, falsey imprisoned, face a much wider sentencing disparity than black people do, etc. can you imagine if the unjust treatment of a man sparked riots of mostly men destroying property, looting, and hurting completely innocent and unrelated people? Can you imagine the feminist response about how that’s needless violence (among other comments, most certainly negative generalizations about men being babies or inherently violent). And let’s not forget those who were injured and killed in these riots. You know, since you think this argument is property vs human life. I can assure you that you wouldnt have the same tone if the group wasnt one that you cared about.
There is a difference between understanding why someone wanted to do something, and justifying/agreeing with those actions. You just want any reason to excuse bad actions when people you support do it.
just imagine someone firebombing your house and business and robbing you and being called racist for being upset about it.
that’s literally exactly what’s happening to these people.

Why do people keep quoting the “Riots are the voice of the unheard” line from MLK but always seem to forget the “Let me say as I've always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating.” Part?
Like, what happened to George Floyd was fucking disgusting and I hope that SoB Derek Chauvin and his partner get punished to the fullest extent for murder.
But all these riots are going to do is hurt people that aren’t involved in this. Looting and burning down businesses? Why? What’s the point? They had noting to do with his death.
Protests? Absolutely fine. You wanna show your displeasure with this bullshit by protesting and making your voice heard? Go ahead. Because that’s the good shit. But Riots? All that’s going to do is turn people against you. And that’s the last thing that nerds to happen.
this movie is so fucking creepy jesus fuck
It’s by Tim Burton, what did you honestly expect?
Actually, it’s Henry Selick, who was the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas. The book was written by Neil Gaiman, though, and is far…far….worse.
Sorry, I’m about to geek the hell out.
The movie is captivating, but the book is twenty kinds of terrifying, even now, ten years after I first read it. As disturbing as the movie may have been to some, the things Selick added really serve to cushion just how horrific the story really is.
First of all, the character of Wybie does not exist in the book. Coraline is facing all of this nearly alone, with her only help coming from the sly comments of the cat, a warning from the circus mice, and the stone given to her by her neighbor, presented with no comment but that it “makes the unseen seen.”
Second, the Other Parents are never quite as warm (and, dare I say, normal) as they are in the gifs above. They’re described as having paper-white skin and the Other Mother’s hair is said to move on its own, and her long, red, claw-like nails don’t ease any uncertainty that she is absolutely, positively up to no good. The first time Coraline meets them, they (and the rest of the Others) seem to be playing roles (for whatever reason, Coraline does not seem to pick up on this), like they all know what to say and what to do and are simply waiting for Coraline to make her move in their terrifying play world. This is shown to be partly true when the Other Parents tell her they know she’ll be back soon after she refuses the buttons - this time, to stay.
Third, the Other Mother commits atrocities that really should not have been in a book for anyone not fully grown up. She physically deforms the world around Coraline to slow her progress in their game beyond any mild traps the movie portrays, and, instead of turning the Other Father into the wandering pumpkin-thing seen in the film, she simply ceases to use him and throws his body away in the cellar, leaving him to rot with whatever bit of sentience he has left. She begins to lose her touch, as Coraline gains the upper hand. Her world doesn’t just become a nightmare - it falls apart completely. No creepy but oddly cool bug furniture here, just the house that now appears to be a child’s drawing. Whatever the Other Mother is (a beldame, but something tells me she’s much more ancient and powerful than that), she does not give half a hump about what she has to do to ensnare Coraline. Destroy the supporting characters of her twisted creation? Done. Allow herself to be dismembered to ruin Coraline’s life in the normal world? Not even gonna bat an eyelash.
On a final, personal note, imagine eight year-old me, ignored by my parents, absorbed in the story and identifying with Coraline from the start. Imagine me finishing this bloodcurdling book and immediately thinking of my basement, where there is still a locked door that my grandmother swears up and down is nothing more than a storage room, but has not once in my (or my mother’s) lifetime unlocked.
Can you see why this book still scares me?
Fun fact I learned from seeing neil gaiman speak: when he first wanted the book published, his editor said it was too scary. He suggested she read it to her young daughter, and then decide. So she did, and her daughter wasn’t afraid, and it was published. Years later, Gaiman was sitting next to that daughter at an event and told her this story, and she said “oh I was terrified I just didn’t want to tell my mom”.
Coraline WAS too scary to be published, but exists anyway because a girl lied to her mother.
@neil-gaiman, is this true about the publisher’s daughter?
It was my literary agent, Merrilee Heifetz who read it and said “you can’t seriously expect this to be published as a children’s book.” So I suggested she read it to her daughters. And she called me back a week later and said “They love it and they weren’t scared at all. I’ll take it to Harper Children’s.”
A decade later, at the Opening Night of the Coraline musical, I was sitting next to Morgan, Merilee’s youngest daughter, and told her how her not being scared had made the book happen. And she said “I was terrified. But I needed to find out what happened next. So nobody knew.”
So, yes.
This website can be toxic at times, but the fact that people can just tag Neil Gaiman to get his input, like a sorcerer invoking a benevolent spirit, is definitely a bright spot.
