All my abusers would control what I was "allowed" to say before they attempted any other manipulation. That's how total control of people starts: by taking away their basic, everyday defense

So when people argue for free speech restrictions by saying that we just want to harass people (ignoring that free speech law and harassment law are different) it puts me on guard. I want to defend myself. I want people to not be controlled

Free speech is the first step towards fighting against harassment and abuse. If you have not done the research on free speech law and harassment law, I'm happy that you were never in a position where you needed to form that argument for yourself, but you need to know what the issue actually is before you find yourself fighting against people who are fighting harassment
