You are not a pizza.
A few of days ago I found myself explaining my policy against offering out-call services. I never learned to drive and lacking a driver/bodygaurd to help if something goes wrong, outcalls aren’t the safest or desired activity in my day to day. There’s just too much that can go wrong. And so much does go wrong in this industry. But I wont horrify you with the details, but the gammut runs…

UA Day Late and a Dollar Short...
My latest post is finally up "A Day Late and a Dollar Short...:"
(This piece was originally published on October 8th, 2011.) I know, I know, it’s not Friday, but I have the best reason and an even better excuse. This week was born from the anals of whorey hellfire and I handle deadlines approximately as well as I handle poverty, doing everything humanly possible to avoid it. At this point I’m not exactly sure what I should write about. How one should get a…

“So what do you do?” How to engage when meeting someone for the first time (or you're a Sex Worker in a Vanilla situation)
Magnetic Personal Projects: What’s Yours? Part 1
my co-worker’s having a flat warming tonight and i want to go but i also have literally no idea how to act around people who don’t know i’m a sw. like, what do civvies talk about? because all i want to talk about is how fucked the nordic model is & how depressed i am france adopted it
(i’m exaggerating my hopelessness slightly here but, like, i exist in a sw-friendly bubble in my own life and i have to be good so as not to out her! it’s going to be hard enough keeping her name straight)
I’m so bad at conversation where I can’t be out! I WANT TO TELL A HILARIOUS WORK STORY but I can’t and I feel so trapped and bored and boring.
Like yes, I also work during the day on a salary in an office where I definitely don’t put anyone’s dick in my mouth.
aaaahhhh feeling this so harrrrdd :/
“So, what do you do” “Nothing. Definitely not fucking people for money.”
I was considering just to tell people that I deal drugs cause it’s so normal here but then they would want drugs from me and I don’t have any. So I pretend I work from home doing office stuff, which is pretty boring so I don’t get many questions about it.
Tbh I’ve considered that but dealers get robbed a lot because people know they keep cash & drugs in their house & won’t call the cops
It’s funny actually, my bestie’s neighbour is a drug dealer, and he’s pretty out of it most of the time. Once he forgot his key so he broke into his own apartment by damaging his door with an axe, and then proceeded to use a simple padlock for security. But then he also left the gas on once and told the firemen “yeah I def smelled gas in the morning and I figured I would light up before I do anything about it”. I have no idea how he’s not dead yet, and how he actually pays his rent, and runs a successful business.
I have the same feeling about going out and being “fit for public consumption". It’s a headache but less so with a couple of boundaries.
1. Arrive late and leave early. If you are committed to going to any event or gathering that inspires dread, stay no longer than 90 min. (I recommend an hour since its long enough to show your presence “work the crowd” and short enough not to be trapped in a long conversation with a stranger…..“OMG is that blablabla over there?! I haven’t seen them for ages! I must say hello before I leave. Nice to meet you” —> exit gracefully.)
2. Practice active listening like at work, and take 3-5 long breaths before saying anything. The extra silence often encourages people to describe, explain, and expand on what they were just talking about. The longer THEY talk the wiser, more compassionate, and thoughtful YOU look.
3. When asked what I do for a living and I’m in mixed company I say “Oh, I do all kinds of things! I’ve never had trouble paying rent. I like to keep my thumbs in as many pots as I can. With the economy the way it is one has to be inventive. For instance; the other day I was working on this art piece and….bla bla bla.” The next thing you know I’m talking about art and the economy, guiding the conversation into calmer waters.
If I have time to kill I’ll swing the topic back to the person and ask them an open ended question. Something like “what’s your experience/impression/opinion?” Bringing 3 to 5 open ended questions to any party is sure to save you a night navigating the treacherous waters of a vanilla party. Any question can NOT be answered with a “yes or no” answer is a good one. And remember the prolonged silences. This is excruciating for people especially when being witnessed by a crowd. And often times people are thinking whatever is wrong is wrong with them. You are the last person people think about when put on the spot. Everyone is secretly narcissistic, use this to your advantage.
After a while you get pretty good at this and can even play with people’s general assumptions and prejudices. But that’s for another day….I want to keep this minimal since its easy to get overwhelmed with the possibilities.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or I’ve explained this poorly let me know. I’ll do what I can to improve the idea.
And good luck! 👍
I don’t sell my body for money. I sell my time, companionship, wit, beauty, intelligence, conversational skills, hand holding assets, shoulder to cry on capabilities, nicest lingerie, sweetest perfume, sassiest smile, wrinkle-in-the-nose-laughter. I don’t sell my body for money. I retain full ownership of my body no matter how much money is in my hand.
And everyone would do well to remember that.

A question of safety...

I’ve been thinking of going back to work in my industry. Luckily I have quite a few choices. I’ve been considering working on camera again. It’s very hard work but the pay and flexibility make it a viable option. I asked my friends on Twitter what they thought. One question that came up was whether it was safer than working as an escort.
I thought it was interesting this was a factor in other people’s minds. I hadn’t considered it myself. I rarely do. I’ve been doing this for so long I don’t feel the sex trade is dangerous. But that might just be because I know how to keep myself safe so well, I do it without thinking. And it could be because I live in Canada, where prostitution is legal (though talking about it, doing it in any location other than your client’s home, and spending the money, are illegal), and attitudes are different.
I was bristled by the question of safety. It brought up a lot of feelings about my competency, my knowledge, and the attitudes of the people close to me. My ego was getting in the way of thinking about this objectively.
Yes, I may have asked the question, but I realize now, I didn’t really want to know the answer.
It made me remember a time when a good friend broke out in tears when he heard I’d stopped working. I thought he was sweet on me and cried tears of joy over the good news that my health was better, and I was happy. I understand now he was carrying a great burden. He had been frightened for me.
That epiphany angered me. And I was ashamed for putting him through this without even knowing.
I didn’t want to think about my family, my friends and my loved ones living with an undercurrent of fear. I couldn’t do anything about it. I thought it was unjustified. I thought it was based on too many stories of ‘poor whores’ and not enough stories of ‘The happy hooker’. I thought if I just kept writing, saying everything is okay, showing up on the page and on live social media platforms, that everyone would just relax and give me some credit for a change. I hoped that educating people on what I knew from the inside, that they would be comforted.
I didn’t want to feel guilty or ashamed when I got ready for work everyday. I didn’t want to think about the risk of disease, or rape, or worse, when I invited a stranger into my home. I didn’t want to think that I missed or overlooked some important step to hiding my identity that might come back to haunt me or my family. I didn’t want to think that my lover was in pain every time I answered the phone.
I started this blog as a vehicle for my frustration and to break some of the isolation that goes with the job. It became this place where I fight the prejudices of general society about the horrors and the stereotypes typically associated with prostitution. I created a platform to educate the masses about why they shouldn’t feel bad for me, so I could feel better about myself. And I’ve gone and painted myself into a corner.
I desperately want what I do to be considered valid, viable, and dignified employment. But I can’t. Because as I keep trying to help everyone feel better, I have to discount the times when I feel bad, or scared, or hurt. I can’t tell the stories about when I was in danger, when I was lonely, or anything negative about my job. Otherwise I risk scaring you, perpetuating your fears for my safety, and feeling so wrong for putting you through this.
I know I can’t control how anybody feels about me or what I do for a living. I know it’s not my fault that maybe a small portion of the worry and hurt is unfounded. I can’t help that women are in danger just for being female, and prostitutes even more so. I wish I could take it all away. I want to be able to say to everyone that I know what I’m doing, I haven’t been hurt since my first year in the trade. Really, I’m fine.
I don’t have the education I need to get a good job. And I’ve been working at one that gives me all the ‘god job’ qualities—like a flexible schedule with part time hours with great pay, and to be my own boss. But it’s risky. And my loved ones worry. And I feel guilty.
It seems the easy answer would be to go to college, or get a shitty job and work my way up. To keep myself safe and eliminate the burden of worry and fear. The funny thing is; I can no more imagine myself going to college or working as a waitress as you could doing my job. I just wouldn’t be happy. I would die inside. I know, I’ve tried.
I see so many posts on Wordpress about quitting work and living skinny to make dreams come true. I read almost everyday about how people hate their jobs and wish they could write a book. I have that luxury right here and now. I write for hours every day. I can spend all the time in the world with my child and give her all the things I believe she deserves. But there is always a shadow over my joy and accomplishments. There is risk. There is pain. And the choice I always have to confront is; Do I keep from parenting and risk not eating, or do I risk my safety and pay for that luxury with your worry and hurt? And why are these my choices? Why can’t I have the job I want, that makes me happy, provides for my needs and for those I love, be safe, and know my community is happy for me?
I’m sad today because I read this . I don’t read or watch the news because stories like this (and all other atrocities) make me lose hope. I don’t know what to do when I’m faced with these facts. I just cry and feel sorry.

*Today Dec 14, 2015
Since this was published in June, 2013, I have been working, without incident, and unharmed. Safety is a priority in my life, for my loved ones as much as for myself. I am grateful to have people who care about me and so fortunate to be able to keep their worries at ease.
That’s not always the case.
This is reposted to observe this Thursday, Dec 17th; The International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.
If you want to do something you can start a conversation, search for opportunities to learn more, express more compassion, and support your local organization that support sex workers. If there isn’t one you may have to expand your definition of ‘local’.
Start here; at the official site; December17.org
Pass this video around. It’ll lighten the mood AND make a point!

Let me know how it goes!
I just think this is hilarious....
Because a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do....
In your experience, if you have a boyfriend/boyfriends/girlfriend/partner, are you honest about it with your clients? In what contexts? (E.g., safe sex/protection, working out logistics, just casual mentions, etc.?) If you’re not, can I ask why?
90% of the time if a client asks…
Oh man, I lie all the time, specifically first to flatter the client’s ego/libido, about having partners. I’m as gay/straight, promiscuous/straightlaced as I think will turn them on. But I always say I have *some* sort of partner, because it’s an easy way to enforce boundaries. (“I can’t do that, my girlfriend wouldn’t like it — and we’re very honest with each other” works surprisingly well). I also always lie about significant details, even if I think the reality of my romantic life would go over fine — I consider it semi-inevitable that a client or two over the years will wind up with more information about me than I would like them to have, but I don’t want to make it easy, and I hope I can make sure that their point of contact is NEVER my partners. So talking about my love life is a source of misdirection too.
Question for fellow providers:
I also find it helpful if you have a particularly pushy client who wants to do something that’s outside of your boundaries, I tell them “that act is something special between my significant other and I.” I don’t know why, but this works really well and they generally respect that.
I’ll keep this in mind, too, thank you for responding!
For some reason I wouldn’t have intuited that clients might be more inclined to back off from pushing a boundary if you tell them that whatever they’re insisting on is “special” to you and a partner. I can kind of understand it (mumble mumble vague ideas about claiming territory mumble), and honestly there will be a few things that are a boundary precisely because that’s true! (E.g. fluid-bonded PIV sex and blow jobs, bdsm or kinky sex where I bottom/sub, certain pet names or things we say in the bedroom or as expressions of love and affection, whatever else.)
Depending on the client and the motive for asking I might metion it, but there are a lot of targets to hit before I would share. The balance of information would need to be in my favor, and be confident I could keep any identifying information out of the conversation.
That being said, nothing is sacred given it's practical/adventageous application. For instance; having a "boyfriend" gets slackers and foot draggers out on time since "He's could be here any minute!". Safe sex and avoiding dfk are great services the a "bf" can supply, real or imaginary.
If mentioning a SO has an erotic charge, is fodder for phone/cam sessions, and/or, in all likelyhood, provide an opportinuty to connect with my coleagues on Tumblr, then I'll mention it.
If I dont have a lover then I rarely make one up. The less self auditing and lie inventory to keep track of the more authentic I can make the session. And authentic is the easiest session to ..
A client found me on Facebook
-He doesn’t have my real name -Nor my real number -Nor do we have any mutuals -He didn’t even look me up he saw me on his people he might know. -How is that possible?
Deleting all my social media accounts .
This happens to me all the time...came across this article that might help....
