I saw someone mocking poppunk for being sad music for people angry about living in idyllic surburbia. And I wanna say. That is the point! Its anger and sadness and emotion, because even though on paper you live in ideal and idyllic surcumstances you still dont fit it!

Your parents still suck or fight or isnt what it seems on the surface. This is the place most people dream about and you dont fit in. You are still an outcast and weird and not right.

That is what most pop punk music is about yes. The expression of the horror that what youre supposed to love and dream about hates who you are.

Like, that break after no good is just so genius. She says she's no good....no, with words, she's no good with words, not that she's no good hahahaha nope, absolutely not, just with words....but I'm worse. With words. Yeah, that's it. I'm worse with words.

And the thing is we all know Pete is great with words, words are his thing, it's just that, as the song tells us, he doesn't like the words he has, they're too overdramatic -- and honestly, only someone who is good with words is as worried about words as Pete is in this song. These words are all I have, after all, and also you need them just to get by. The whole song really is about words, but the genius of how Patrick breaks up that line so that it effectively ends after "no good" and leaves the "words" on the next line, so separated out that they seem to barely have any relationship to her no-good-ness and the speaker's worse-ness. It's just so well done. It absolutely kills me, how words weave in and out of this song and both are and are not what the song is ultimately about.

I really can't figure out if this is really me. if what ive created is on brand and even fucking good. Right now I am like, it was fun to make sure, but so were the projects I actually really like. I also like parts of it, but I dont know if those parts are worth the general vibes being off. I feel like a confusion a tension even, between putting out something just to have something out there even if it isn't perfect, and like: I only have one first impression. So if someone sees me through this and my gut is right and it does suck, then having there on my catalogue feels like a stain. Same way if it all goes well. If I put it out and it becomes a success for no reason, then I am stuck with this thing that doesn't feel like me. I am probably overthinking it. And it will all work out, but I want it to not just work out. I want it to be great.
