Born to a single mother out of wedlock, Lia had always wanted more growing up. Her mother was a nurse, a humble job in Lia’s opinion, but it paled into comparison to Lia’s father. She’d discovered he was beyond rich, the CEO of some food company she could hardly care less about, and that she was simply the product of many of his one-night stands. Besides a birthday card she’d receive every year and child support, it was as if she didn’t exist to him at all.
Her absent father’s wealth had made her grown fascinated with wealth from a young age, though her view of it was likely skewed due to her humble, small-town lifestyle. She dreamed of owning designer clothing and jewelry, something her mother could never afford and her father would never know of. It wasn’t just for the sake of appearances, Lia genuinely wanted to feel like she had wealth, leading her to make some morally gray choices as she became a teenager. She’d talk to older men online, who’d fall right into the trap of her sweet, innocent look, giving her money and ordering things for her. Of course, it was wrong, and when she became older, she’d know that those men she took from so willingly were vile in every way. But teenage Lia didn’t care.
She’d tell her peers that the new clothes and shoes and jewelry were simply a gift from her father, hiding what she got from her mother, who’d only ever seen her daughter as her pride and joy. Lia was a straight-A cheerleader who was adored by adults around her, no one expected that adoration to come from a sinister place as well. She’d graduated at the top of her class, early acceptance at Columbia just another one of her accomplishments thus far. Living in New York was part of the reason she chose to attend the school. While she attended school, she kept up her ways. Being in a big city, there’d been times that the men she talked to took her out, for shopping and dinner. In her defense, although being incredibly smart, she was young, too young to realize that if she’d made a mistake, she could be seriously hurt for it. She’d graduated with a bachelor’s in business management, returning home to Hidehill under the guise that ‘she’d missed home.’ In reality, Lia had been spotted a few too many times by the angry wives of men who’d clearly cared for her more.
Being older, it was fit for her to come clean about how she’d made a considerable amount of money all while being a full time college student. Her mother was disappointed, to say the least, disowning her and cutting off all contact for years to come, while Lia took a job as an escort at the Playpen. She’d be lying if her mother’s reaction didn’t hurt, but with no real family left, she also had no reason to change. Eventually, they’d reconcile, especially after Lia transitioned into a managerial.
