Y'know. I was so totally convinced that all men were jealous of women, like I was... I saw being a man as a horrible burden. An obligation I was stuck with. And on a subconscious level, the scariest thought in my mind was growing old as a man, living my whole life fulfilling my patriarchal obligations, and never once living for my own happiness.

I was so jealous of trans women, too! They knew in their hearts they were women, so they didn't have to be men. They knew they had other options... Not like me... But now I know that it's something you choose. You never get it handed to you, like some kind of permission to be a woman. You just decide you want it, and then you are one.

So if you're reading this, and you relate to this at all... You know you don't *have* to be a man, right?... There are other options open to you...

You're not obligated to be a man if you don't like it.

i think it's disingenuous to say that bigotry only comes from fear of the unknown

like sure it can be a part of it, but in my experience, bigotry comes more from power dynamics & fear of what happens when that dynamic ends or shifts

like the people who oppress others definitely know what they're doing, & may even feel guilty over it—but what drives them to continue is the fear of eventual consequence for participating in it. they're afraid of thrir punching bag finally punching back; they're afraid of losing their ability to hurt people whom it's acceptible to hurt; they're afraid of admitting fault ir guilt & looking weak as a result; they're afraid of losing their social standing; they're afraid of being the new target when there's not someone below them

Quite keen of you to pick up on that, but may I add, the unknown still plays a part in it where the power dynamic isn't at threat, be it fear or ignorance. While not as bad, the bigotry of simply not knowing better can still do plenty of harm interpersonally, and be later reinforced by an inability to come to terms with one's own mistakes, doubling down instead, hiding behind more and more excuses to avoid telling oneself that they did something bad.
