•concept art for lots of scenes that would end up in episodes

•what appears to be an early version of sardonyx?

•pilot rose concepts!!

•pearl’s early designs toyed with ideas such as her concealing her gem with her bangs so she could look human, a conchshell inspired outfit, and multiple pearls in her hair. rebecca seems to have had a lot of trouble designing her.

•early plot ideas had the gems as beings sent from another universe to protect the human race, with a strong emphasis on “magic” as opposed to the current sci-fi tone the show eventually took

•rose would visit steven in his dreams and give him advice. whenever this happened, he would wake up surrounded by newly grown roses, which he is embarrassed of

•each crystal gem had a theme early on; garnet was space themed, amethyst was based on flora/fauna, and pearl was based on fire and rocks.

also this article is misleading. there is nothing on the site that says the lad was “sick of his sister’s flowery candles” he got the idea from his sister who was selling them for a school fundraiser and wanted more scents that appealed to him, as the overwhelming majority of scented candles are marketed towards women.
