He was close. You could feel the heat radiating off him, and you had to crane your neck just a bit to make eye contact.
“Well? If you’re not going in there, can you move?” Law asked, looking slightly agitated.
You just stared at him, not moving and not responding to his question, frozen. You didn’t even know what to say. Panic started to set in.
This was a bad idea I look insanely suspicious right now I don’t even know what to-
“Hello?” Law said again; that damn attitude. “What are you even doing here?”
“Uhhhhhhh”
Fuck it, you still weren’t even sure this was real anyways
“I was looking for you” you said suddenly, before you could really think about it.
“Why?” he looks a little suspicious.
Ummmmm…yea you really did not think that through idiot, not even we can help you right now
“cause” you tried, voice trembling a bit.
“Because?”
You opened your mouth and said…nothing. You were truly at a loss for words, which usually never happened. You wanted to just run away, you could feel yourself about to cry, but for some reason that didn’t feel like the right option. You decided to be a little brave as you swallowed down the lump in your throat, hoping that the soft side you’d imagined he’d harbor had some truth.
“I’m sorry” you blurt, just kind of winging it, now praying this was all in your head
Silence, then a single word
“What”
Law heard you, by the way, he’s just really not used to people apologizing to him.
“I’m sorry for laughing at you yesterday” you start, trying to think of a way to explain the situation, voice shaky as hell. “I was just really overwhelmed and I kind of couldn’t believe you were actually talking to me cause like, you’re Trafalgar Law the Surgeon of Death, and I know I haven’t really explained anything to you yet about the TV show but Luffy just chases you around and you hate it but you’re also his friend??? and your relationship with him is funny and- I don’t even know what im trying to say, and-”
You’re spiraling. Your sentence has no end. Each word you say you start to panic a bit more. You cut yourself off, tears starting to fall
He just looks at you, very confused, and a little worried. It seemed to be his natural state on the Thousand Sunny.
“…and…I swear none of you were real to me until 18 hours ago and I’m still so fucking freaked out…” You choked out, letting yourself fully cry now, bringing your arms up to hug yourself. You never cried in front of them yesterday, you didn’t even let yourself cry that much in private either, you just seemed more shell shocked.
“I don’t know what’s going on, I’m still not 100% convinced I’m awake and I know that my arrival here is absolutely h-horrible timing” you say through your tears, voice quivering. “But I promise I didn’t mean for any of this to happen” You plead now, “I don’t want to get in your way and screw everything up I’m sorry, and I pinky promise I’m not a spy working with Doflamingo *sniff* I fucking hate that guy and I can prove it, so p-please don’t knock me out and throw me off the ship in the night” you sobbed out, looking down at the floor.
Law is shocked. He is so bad at dealing with feelings, he doesn’t even deal with his own. He just stands there like an idiot while his brain malfunctions.
“How did she know I suggested that? UGH strawhat can’t keep his mouth shut for shit I should’ve known. What am I supposed to even do here does she expect me to hug her or something? I-I can’t help her with this” The gears are turning in his head as he tries to analyze the situation
You continue crying for a minute in front of him, sinking down to sit on the floor, forgetting he’s there and letting yourself descend into the chaos that is your current mental state. Honestly, you’re surprised you had held it together at breakfast and with the girls. It all felt so surreal, and you were barely hanging on. You didn’t even know what the plan was when you went to talk to Law, you didn’t know anything at all. You bury your hands in your face and lean your head back against the door in frustration, only to instantly recoil in a startling pain. You let out a yelp and your hand flew to the back of your head, your tears stopping as the sharp pain rippled across the touch as well. You cried out, God damn that hurt.
Law’s thoughts stopped instantly. He recognized that sound, that motion. Pain. He didn’t know how to help with emotional pain but physical pain? He knew exactly how to make that situation better.
“What happened” He asked about the reaction, not out of concern, but to assess the medical situation at hand…only the situation at hand…
“My head really hurts” you mutter out, eyes still filled with tears
Nothing for a moment
“Stand up”
It wasn’t a question
You look up at him; he’s extending his arm out to you.
You don’t move for a beat, you just look at him while you cradle your head, confused by his intentions.
“C’mon” he says, slightly impatient, hand still extended. “I need to look at your head again”
His eyes soften the tiniest bit. You don’t notice.
“Why” you questioned as a tear slips down your face.
He’s annoyed again but doesn’t like the way his chest tightened at seeing your sad and fearful eyes looking up at him; it felt wrong.
“What do you mean why?”
“You’re a pirate” you say, “and you think I’m a traitor”. “You have no reason to help me; it would be in your favor to just leave me, wouldn’t it?” you ponder aloud, voice thick with tears. It wasn’t in character for him to help someone he suspected or help…anyone that wasn’t his crew at all really; Luffy was a rare exception.
He groaned and rubbed his temples as he cursed Luffy out in his head once more for even telling you. He spoke again after a moment, voice soft but still laced with irritation
“I know you’re not a spy, okay? Now, let me help you get up so I can check your head again…please.” He grumbled out, the please at the end said a little quieter than the rest.
Your brain can barely process anything right now but hearing the confirmation you didn’t have to fight to be believed anymore made you calm down enough to take his hand and stand up. One less thing to figure out.
He moved to open the door behind you, leaning over you just a bit; your breath hitches ever so slightly.
You blame it on the panic attack.
The door opens and he motions for you to go inside, him following behind. You walk into the library and kind of just stand there for a second, not really knowing what to do. It’s dimly lit and smells like old books and the ocean, a scent that helps further calm your senses. He pulled out the chair from the desk and turned the lamp on, gesturing for you to sit down. So, you do
“Can you take your bandana off?” He asks, voice calm and steady
You do so, reaching to slide it off the back of your head, your hair falling out onto your shoulders.
“I’m going to be lifting and moving your hair around while I check your head like I did yesterday, ok?”
You nod, not saying anything. Your mind was still reeling from the breakdown you just had; you weren’t really paying attention to him.
He split your hair into two, gently moving it over your shoulders. He then puts his hands in your hair, carefully threading his fingers through and splitting sections to look at your scalp. The motion had been quite calming to your frantic thoughts; you felt a bit like a live wire right now. You subconsciously relaxed into his touch, and deep breaths started to become possible again.
Meanwhile Laws alarm bells are going off. Right in the center of your head, sprawling across the back, is one of the nastiest fucking bruises he’s ever seen. Your head did NOT look like this yesterday when he checked it, even Chopper said you looked like you’d be okay.
“It must’ve developed over night while she slept” Law thought to himself, continuing his search to see how large the bruise was. He couldn’t see the full extent through your follicles, and he didn’t want to pull your hair too much.
“What happened again?” He asked, trying to conclude how you could’ve smacked your head this hard.
“I told you, I hit my head when I fell into the mirror yesterday” you spoke, voice barely above a whisper
“That doesn’t make any sense, why would it be on the back of your head if you fell into the mirror” he realized.
“Well, the mirror kind of fell…into me”
“..How”
You told him the story, remembering you never did, and he just looked absolutely floored.
“You…what”
“Yea and my head hit the floor before I went through, I was kinda pressed between the two I guess-
“WHY wouldn’t you tell me that? That is completely different from knocking your head, you’ve suffered a traumatic head injury, do you know the velocity you were falling at? You’re lucky that portal opened I-” He was scolding you, and you flinched at his tone, causing him to stop short.
“Yeah…I know” you said, voice even quieter.
He felt like a dick. He changed his approach
“I need to use my powers on you” he said, calmer this time.
“Uhhhh” you say, nervousness creeping into you. “Why?”
“The bruise on the back of your head needs immediate medical attention; there’s blood pooling back there. You could slip into a coma if I don’t operate now.”
That makes you chuckle a little, finding it kinda funny; your sick mind found his words extremely, extremely ironic.
“It might be too late for that…I think I’ve already slipped into one” you say, turning towards him. You raise your eyebrows and smirk; your eyes stained with tears giving way to your true state.
“Heh? Get it??” You chided weakly, pointing finger guns at him and making little pew pew motions.
Yea. He needed to operate now.
“I need you to be serious for a moment.” He says in response, a little exasperated
“This is me being serious, I can’t stand tense situations for too long” you say, quieter.
“Does…it hurt?” you asked after a moment, looking at him again, a little more vulnerable than you wanted to.
He softened once more. You did notice this time.
“No, it doesn’t, I promise” he said, tone reassuring. “It won’t take long either, I’m just going to relocate the blood that’s pooling there and heal the damaged brain tissues.”
You thought about it for a moment before nodding your head slowly, turning back around and taking a deep breath
“Okay”
It’s still for a moment, then he activates his powers
“Room”
In an instant you were enveloped inside his bubble, everything outside of it looked a little distorted as the energy it emitted hummed quietly. Law once again placed his hands back on your head, before speaking another command.
“Scalpel”
You couldn’t see what he was doing, but you could feel it. The pressure in the back of your head started to ease, slowly but steadily. You felt an immediate relief as the once sharp pain had now faded into a soft ache. You didn’t even realize how badly your head had hurt, too caught up in a million other things whilst trying to keep your composure. You sighed out in relief, and a steady calm started to bloom deep inside you.
After a few moments he had finished and closed the bubble. You reached your head up to feel where the pain once festered, surprised to find you felt nothing at all. You turned around to look at him once more, eyes wide in shock.
“Does everything feel okay?” he asked, eyes analyzing you in a clinical manner, making sure you didn’t have any more ailments.
“Y-Yes the pains completely gone…thank you so much” you respond. You had always seen him perform medical miracles on screen but experiencing it for real left you a little awestruck.
He nodded his head
“It’s what I do”
It was quiet for a beat as he had moved to sit down on the couch, across from the desk. You were feeling better, the lack of attention paid to your tears helped them dissipate and you started thinking clearly again. You hated crying in front of other people, and it was even worse when someone commented on it or tried to hug you. You found it quite comforting that he ignored it completely and focused on something else.
“I’m sorry you saw that…” you say, voice barely above a whisper
“It’s been a lot all at once, and I’m just not totally convinced everything’s okay with me” you finish before looking down at the floor.
He wracks his brain looking for any response, coming up short. I mean, he gets it, he guesses he would be scared if he was you too but that doesn’t mean the right words are going to just pop into his head, and he’s smart enough to know that those ones aren’t right either.
His logical and awkward brain can only recall his medical training right now, different procedures and illnesses bouncing around in his mind, listing symptoms of some disorder to calm himself. Wait a minute…
He stands up and grabs the clock that’s sitting behind you on the desk.
“Does this look like the clocks in your world?”
“…Yea?” you say, brows furrowing in confusion.
“What time is it”
“12:45??” you reply as if it was obvious.
“Okay then. you’re awake.” He responded as if it was equally obvious
You stare at him, not getting it.
“…What”
“There’s a multitude of things that you cannot understand or grasp when you’re in a coma, the concept of time is one of them. People that have woken from comas couldn’t recall ever recall how much time had passed and had never seen a clock. Besides, people in comas don’t ever think they’re trapped in one, there’s not enough constant brain activity for you to process things like that”
“Really?” you say, voice small but hopeful
“Yea, the chemicals that are released when the brain lapses into a coma create a mental state that- he goes on to explain exactly how your brain worked under a coma caused by injury, getting very specific. He got lost in it a little, his eyes focused as he carefully detailed all the medical ways you couldn’t possibly be experiencing one.
It reminded you of your therapist. She always broke down how anxiety and all the things that came along with it worked in a scientific way, the idea becoming less overwhelming and scary when you learned about the chemicals that are being released in response to various stimuli and such. That calming feeling that had begun to flower when Law fixed your injury started to deepen, the confirmation you weren’t trapped in some dream felt like a gasp of fresh air, something solid for your brain to accept as truth, as reality.
“As long as you can tell me the order of events that happened yesterday, and read the new time again, you scientifically couldn’t be experiencing some lucid dream or coma, understand?”
You nodded, proceeding to do so correctly, which earned you a small smile. Rare, from the moodiest man alive.
“Good. There’s nothing wrong with you then, besides your seemingly twisted sense of humor” he chided ever so lightly. You smiled at the quip and then spoke again; a new wave of confidence had rushed back with the rest of your mind coming together.
“Sooo…what made you change your mind about me?” you asked, a questioning look appearing on your face.
He tenses a bit.
“I just did”
“Did you realize you hadn’t slept in days and were probably being paranoid?” You question, a teasing lilt in your voice. You knew he wouldn’t have just randomly changed his mind about you, and you know nobody could’ve convinced him otherwise unless he found proof.
You want to know how he found out.
He looked a little bothered at your question. Good.
“I sleep just fine” he lied through his teeth “and I wasn’t being paranoid; I was being cautious” he defended
“Oh please, if you lived in my world, you would 100% be an insomniac ridden medical student that lives off instant ramen and red bull, sleeps three hours a night, and works the day shifts at like, McDonalds in between your internships or something. I think I’ve drawn a picture of it before.” You chuckled at yourself. You knew he didn’t know what some of those things were, but you didn’t care, you knew you were spot on.
“What did you do, sneak into my room and read my “journal” or something?” you added casually, not really caring if he did or didn’t, knowing you had left it out in a ship full of pirates. You had nothing to hide after all.
Besides, you had kind of been unknowingly stalking them for the past 2 years of their lives, so you couldn’t really get mad if one of them did it in return.
Listen, you weren’t stupid by any means. And you weren’t some helpless woman either. You were very inquisitive and quick to question and break down situations; you didn’t like what you didn’t understand. You may have been questioning your sanity for a little bit like anyone would, but the core of you was still functioning true. You also hated the feeling of not being in control, which you realized quickly you had a rare opportunity to gain here.
Law looked uneasy. He hadn’t gone into your room, but he didn’t really want to say how he knew, knowing what you would think.
“No…I uh, saw you with Cesar” he revealed hesitantly, sighing the words out in defeat.
“Okay?” you said. “How did that make you change your mind?”
“Well, Cesar is a very powerful ally to Doflamingo. If he had sent someone to infiltrate the ship and they were able to successfully disarm everyone’s suspicion of them even for a night, they would’ve been able to free Cesar and take us down from the inside. Cesar bested us in Punk Hazard once before, and a sneak attack on our turf would’ve ensured their success a second time; we would’ve been stopped before we ever had the chance to step foot in Dressrosa.” He explained his thought process. You listened intently, completely following, though a strange thought had begun to form. He continued
“I knew when you left him alone after interacting with him, you had nothing to do with the DonQuixote family, it just didn’t add up. He also didn’t know who you were, and Doflamingo wouldn’t have sent some lackey to do this job.” He finished off. He was sitting forward with his hands folded over his lap as he talked, his tired and sharp eyes looking into your slightly red and puffy ones.
He had neglected to tell you that’s when he also ran into Robin who had come out of your room and confirmed your story with him. He walked away wondering who or what a Mazda was, and how they could have cut something off you in a town or place called traffic???You had all your body parts still. Anyways, he had let the thought go. He showered and was just going to act like he’d never said it at all, and was even going to try and sleep some until you were right there breaking down in front of him about it. Thanks, Luffy.
You thought for a long moment before you spoke
“Hmmm…” you said looking up contemplatively, your hand on your chin. “Well, I’m glad that you came to your senses that does make me feel a lot better, buuuuut” you trailed off
“But what?” Law asked.
“We need to do something about this spy” you frowned slightly, fucking with him just a little
Law looked at you, already nervous and not enjoying that look in your eye.
“What…spy” he asks cautiously, feeling like he already knew the answer.
“Well, you, of course” you said plainly, gesturing to him
He did not answer this time. Instead, he just looked at you like you were holding him at gunpoint and waited for you to explain yourself
“That room was at the end of a hallway and there was only one way to turn to get back to the main corridor; I definitely don’t remember seeing you anywhere near me” you said, a playful lilt in your voice. “I’m assuming you’ve been stalking me since…last night actually, not sleeping fine, to make sure I didn’t go and free Cesar, right?”
Law now looked extremely nervous, the tips of his ears turning pink realizing that yea, you weren’t an idiot, and in attempt to prove you were the spy, he had become the spy.
He had ducked into the storage closet he was using as a hideout when you turned around to walk in the correct direction. And yea, he was most definitely walking between your room and Cesars holding spot all night, not sleeping a wink.
“I uh…” he stumbled out, not knowing what to say to that. Mans was flustered as hell having been read so clearly. He hated that feeling and hated being known so well. Not even Beppo could read him like that. Your story really was true.
“I was dead on wasn’t I” you smiled and nodded at him knowingly, quite enjoying seeing him like this. Awkward Law was your favorite after all, and you had him right where you wanted him.
Thankfully he didn’t have to think of a response (he wouldn’t have had anything anyways), because you kept going.
“It’s okay” you said with a reassuring smile “I get it. I probably would’ve thought and done the same thing if I was you, given the current situation you guys are in.” You really did show up right before a certified shitshow; the stakes were high.
Law relaxed a fraction upon hearing you agree with him, glad to not have freaked you out too much, but still embarrassed that he had to tell you at all. He swears he’s not a weirdo.
“So, with that said, I say we make an alliance” you finished off casually, having thought about how to fix all this.
Law looked at you for a second, deep in thought before he replied
“There’s already an alliance between us”
“Nooo, the Heart pirates and the Straw-hat pirates have an alliance, and the last time I checked, I’m not a straw-hat.” You corrected, raising your eyebrow as you looked yourself up and down.
Oh, right. He hadn’t thought of it like that honestly, knowing that you were going to be sticking around due to Luffy’s eager determination to keep you with him and solve your “mystery”; along with his complete unwillingness to listen to anyone, ever. Like I said he had just given up and was going to let you be, something he found himself doing often these past few days on this ship.
“While I absolutely promise you can trust me” you started “I am still in a precarious situation with already knowing about you and future events here and having incidentally become someone that could still make you uneasy or be deemed untrustworthy. Just ‘cause Luffy doesn’t seem to care about it doesn’t mean you don’t, and I think a Captain such as yourself deserves to make your own choice whether to trust me or not.” You explained, appealing to his ego the absolute teeniest, tiniest bit. You may be in a different world, but men were still men at the end of the day.
He’s a little taken aback. He didn’t expect you to be so…rational and, quite frankly diplomatic. He’s a little impressed. He’d been away from his crew for so long that he hadn’t really felt like a Captain for a while now, just himself. Plus, it’s hard not to change your way of thinking around Luffy, he was extremely dominant whether he was aware of it or not. He still doesn’t say anything, but you can tell he’s thinking about it.
“So, do we have a deal? I promise won’t betray you, and you can actually get some sleep and stop stalking me in the night” You smile, that teasing tone reappearing just for a moment as you held your hand out, an invitation to seal the deal.
He grumbles at your statement but after a moment reaches his hand out to shake yours; Bada-bing, Bada-boom. Your first pirate alliance.
“Deal.” He says relenting, giving your hand a tired but firm handshake. His tattooed hand connecting with yours made your mind fuzzy for a moment, having been aware enough now to realize he was touching you, and having dreamed of those hands touching you even once in your little life.
“What did I look like in your drawing?” He asks right after, now pondering on the statement you had made about him if he were to live in your world, making your blush deepen instantly as you broke the handshake and pulled back.
You thought for a minute before you realized you could just redraw it really fast. You were an exceptional artist; you had just gotten into one of the most prestigious art schools in the world, and you were going to be moving to New York next month to start school.
If you could ever get back
You turned around to the desk and grabbed the notebook that was there and looked around for a pencil. You immediately started drawing his alternate version self, and, deciding to show a comparison, drew him in his world in the same way.
The picture was of Law sitting at a desk in scrubs and a clipped-on name tag with a stack of medical books surrounding him as ran one of his hands through his hair, the other grabbing the side of his laptop. You had perfectly captured his overstimulated aura, and for the bit, you added a red bull and a bag with the McDonalds logo on it, a 6 piece sitting on top of a stacks of books with some sauce.
Your other picture was of the same scene, but of him in his office you’d assumed he’d had on the Polar Tang, replacing the items from your world with his. You turned around and handed them to him.
He analyzed them for a moment and looked quite impressed to see how much detail you had done in such little time for both drawings. You couldn’t help but feel a little proud at his reaction.
“They’re the same picture, right” you teased and he looked up at you with a little bit of awe, and a whole lot of curiosity.
“So that’s red bull?” he pointed at the little can you had drawn
“Yep, it’s an energy drink, it’s like coffee, but waaay worse for you, and more processed” you laugh, amused at his immediate questioning
“Processed?”
“Yea, a lot of food and drinks in my world are mass produced by these crazy huge businesses since we all live so close together, and they put a lot of chemicals, and God knows what else in what we consume so it lasts longer during its journey to our markets and restaurants.”
He’s utterly fascinated, and a little disgusted. He goes on
“And what is…this McDonalds I would work at? “It’s one of the restaurants that probably have some of the most processed food you’ll ever eat in your life. It’s one you can find all over our world, like I said mass produced, and its fast food so you can pull your car around, get something, and go. It’s usually filled with 20 something year olds who are either waiting to finish school and get a real job or have no future they’re excited for” You explained.
“What’s a car?” He fires instantly, processing everything rapidly and trying to get a better picture of how you live.
“Woah there Mr. Twenty Questions” you stopped him. “I’m going to explain most of this stuff soon once I finish my little presentation. You can ask as many questions as you want; if I don’t already answer them, later.” You chided.
“One more question.” Law says. You give in and nod for him to continue, and he does, more seriously this time.
“What was your proof”
You’re taken aback, not expecting that question
“What”
“Earlier, you said you could prove you weren’t working with Doflamingo. If I hadn’t seen you with Cesar earlier and known it was true already, what would you have told me to convince me?
Your mind erupted with a million examples you could’ve used, not even really knowing what you were going to say to him when you had blurted that out earlier. You knew what you wanted to say, but relaying the final words of his childhood friend/brother figure to him could cause him to freak again. You knew he probably hadn’t talked about Corazon with anyone in years. After a moment, an idea popped into your head and you turned around and started sketching again, hands moving rapidly. He looked over your shoulder a bit to see what you were doing but you “tsked” at him and he stopped. You drew a few pictures before turning around and looking at him, nervousness in your eyes.
“Are you ready?” you asked him
He nodded, seemingly composed, but the look in his eyes gave him away instantly.
You flipped over the first 2 pictures and he flinched. Drawn on the first one was Law as a child, looking angsty as ever, the patches of white that had spread through him because of his sickness ever apparent. The second picture was of Corazon, in all his glory. You had taken a little longer to get the details just right, knowing it was probably the first time he’d seen his face since he was a child.
Law grabbed Corazon’s picture from you wordlessly, his eyes scanning the image rapidly, and you can tell the memories are coming back. You continue, voice soft
“These aren’t the proof” you start. “I know Doffy knew what you looked like back then, these are for you.” you then flipped over the third picture you had drawn and Law went pale.
“This, is my proof.”
In your hands, you had drawn the last time that Law saw Corazon alive, a still straight from the TV show, of Corazon smiling with his hand up, blood running down his face, as he tells Law that he loves him. You don’t say anything more, knowing that he knew there was no way Doflamingo could’ve witnessed this, and not wanting to freak him out more than he seemed. You have never seen this side of him before on the show, the complete and utter shock had taken over. That was probably one of the most defining and painful moments of his life, and you just redrew it with perfect accuracy.
Yea, no way she’s a spy he thought. She’s a goddamn witch.
He dropped the paper he was holding and reached out for the one you had. He stared at it once more, the same expression on his face as before. He softly reached out to touch the picture, a soft and almost longing action, and your heart clenched at the sight.
“Is…is this enough?” you asked cautiously, not wanting to startle him.
He nodded after a moment, not looking up from the picture. He was shaking. You swear you thought you saw a tear fall, but you were definitely not going to say anything about that to anyone as long as you lived.
When he finally spoke it was soft, softer than you’d ever heard it. you almost missed what he said
“Thank you” he started slowly
“I…I never thought I’d see his face again. I had started to forget what he looked like, he’s exactly as I remember” he finished, before his eyes finally tore away from the paper to meet yours. You found nothing behind them except pure gratitude laced with a deep longing for a time he cannot return to.
“It’s what I do” you said, mirroring his response from earlier, not knowing how to accept compliments very well, especially not ones this deep.
He exhaled hard enough from his nose that it could be perceived as a laugh if you knew the circumstance in which it was uttered. He continued, voice a little steadier, but barely.
“You’re definitely not working for Doflamingo, that’s for sure, but, uh” he struggled to say the last part of his sentence
“Yea, it’s still, really weird, I know.” You finish for him.
“I need you to understand that I’m just as confused as you about all of this, though. If I had known you were real people living real lives that were completely unaware of us watching you, I never would’ve watched the show. Your story and lives are just a small part of my daily life, something that I watch and read for entertainment purposes. I never truly imagined I would be standing here right now.”
“People always say they want to live in this world or other “fantasy worlds”, which, now that I think about it, all of those other worlds could be real too and we just can’t get there,” you go off track for a second as you ponder aloud, “But I don’t think people realize how scary they’d end up looking to everyone, just showing up knowing everything about people who have never seen them in their lives.” You say, gesturing to the air to use your current situation as an example.
Law nodded his head, kind of understanding what you were saying.
“That’s why I wanted to create an alliance with you. I realized that even though I knew I could prove I wasn’t from this world, you would recognize that I really did have extremely sensitive intel into major events that play out here. I was scared it would make you think I was a threat to you still, and I’m really, really not. I’m just a woman whoended up in some insane situation, and who really wants to know why this happened.” You finished, pleading with him a little at the end.
Law looked at you for a moment while he thought, extremely impressed by the way you carried yourself. Your self-awareness and the way you spoke so assuredly, every word chosen carefully, and quickly. I mean, you were able to back him into a verbal corner and get a confession out of him, which was extremely rare.
Meanwhile you were starting to get nervous again about his lack of response, worried that he was going to change his mind or something. He broke you from your spiral when he spoke again, only to utter a single word.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yea. I’ll help you figure out what happened. This is still weird” he says, lifting the picture in his hand, “but I believe you, you’re not a threat.” he finished, nodding his head as if to officially decide he was cool with it.
You let out a breath you didn’t know you had been holding, extremely relieved for this to finally be over with. you smiled and laughed a sweet laugh of relief as you stood up.
“Thank GOD that’s over wow, I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation that tense in my life” you think, lightening up immediately for his sake. You can tell he’s still affected from seeing Corazon again, and you think it’s probably time to leave to go work on your own stuff.
“Thank you again for fixing me up, and for hearing me out” you say, an appreciative smile on your face as you pull the list out that Robin gave you.
“Do you have anymore questions you want to add?” you asked as you handed it to him. He did, actually, scribbling some down and handing it back to you. He tried to hand back the pictures you drew but you stopped him.
“Keep them” you said. “I know you don’t have many memories of him and your childhood; this is the least I could do to make up for all the weirdness that came along with my presence.”
Law is not used to people being soft to him. He has Beppo and his crew and they’re his family of course, but he’s still their captain and he has a lot of walls up that prevent situations from getting too sappy around there. He’s not used to this feeling of being seen and cared about by someone. It’s the same way he feels around Luffy which is why he acts so awkward all the time. You notice his hesitance, so you take the papers from his hand, nodding your head slightly as if to say “It’s okay” and put them face down on the desk for him, leaving them there in case he wants to look at them later. With that, you turn to make your leave. You approached the door before you leave, you glanced behind you and saw that he was still looking at you, a little entranced. You smirked and fully turned around before deciding to make one more little joke
“Try and get some sleep, stalker”
He instantly flustered again, and before he could respond in defense, you laughed and walked out the door; getting the reaction you wanted.
You took a second to yourself in the hallway now, taking a few deep breaths and recollecting your racing mind. You left the conversation with two victories, an agreement with Law and a comforting confirmation this was all real. All that you had to do now was answer their questions and figure out how to get home, which had like, sub goals but you’ll figure that out. You remember that Luffy wanted you to come find him, and that he had something for you. With your new objective in mind, you made your way out of the hallway, now heading toward the place you knew he’d most likely be.
The figurehead, of course.
Authors note: I hope you liked it! I couldn't think of a believable way that reader could approach Law without crying honestly cause that what i would do when i realized i wanted to go confront a man that could take my heart out and kill me or whatever. I think it works though i'll update soon kisses xoxo i'll be moving through bigger sections of time soon i just need the exposition to get laid
