“Yeah, that was a but of a panic order. I guess I’ll just try to pick out the shrimp and eat as much of the rest as I can. Dessert may be in order though.”
A very gentle laugh whispered it’s way through Ren’s throat. He nodded, turning himself back toward the large bowl of noodles in front of him.
“Can I just say that I’m very happy with how this turned out. With…you. I promise I will let you eat now, I just felt like that needed to be said.”
Ren’s normally calm exterior was a volatile mix of overjoyed at the woman next to him, and dread from the food in front of him. It’s a good thing the butterflies in his stomach had taken away most of his appetite because this would likely be the worst meal he’d had in years.
It was difficult for Nora to start slurping her noodles, mostly because of her absolute refusal to stop smiling. Especially after Ren mentioned dessert. No matter how distracted she was, her sweet tooth was still unbeatable.
“I can help you out with yours! I’ll eat your shrimp! That’s what together together people do, right? Eat the parts of the meal the other person doesn’t want?”
Without even waiting for him to answer, she reached her chopsticks over to his bowl and plucked out a curl of the seafood in question, popping it into her mouth with ease.
As she heard him starting to apologize again, she shook her head as she finished chewing, waiting until she swallowed to answer him.
“You don’t have to keep apologizing. Trust me, I get it. I’m just as happy as you are. I… I’ve kinda been dreading having this talk cause I was scared it was gonna go bad and make things weird but it didn’t! And everything’s happy!”
“You would likely know better than I would. I’m guessing you and Py.. I’m guessing you and your friends back at beacon talked about that a lot more than Jaune and I ever did. And I’ll never complain about being without the shrimp.”
Ren was nearly ecstatic as he saw her begin to remove the curls of meat from his noodles with what almost seemed like pinpoint accuracy. At least he wasn’t having to struggle through eating this with the added awkwardness of her saying no!
“Oh..okay. I was dreading it too. If I wasn’t such a quiet person already, I’m sure it would have been obvious that I was speaking less when you were around because it was all I could do to keep from blurting this out anytime you were near. I thought this would be more appropriate conversation for a one on one discussion.”
