Hi, Final Fantasy 14 housing consumes my life sometimes. This is Leroy's Personal Chambers in his RP FC. Since the house is in the Shroud, I wanted the concept of the Forest slowly creeping into the space. Cozy, green, and fresh. Also multi-level because I'm obsessed with lofts and how they change the function of a room.
There is a huge part of being a professional artist that bugs me about video game development, and man - it is that the bar has constantly been moving higher and higher since fidelity in graphics became to matter so much. Like dude, the development of Morrowind was built off hope and a prayer, and the concept art was literally pen drawings and lore. A Link to the Past's map was made on graph paper and markers. Lighting? What the hell is lighting? We don't have ram for that! Final Fantasy in their 2-D era and even into their early 3D titles was Amano going fucking *nuts* and the pixel artists praying to *GOD* that they could depict whatever the fuck he just made. Now it feels like studios want you to do *everything* conceivably possible to push into realism. Like, I can do a lot of things. I have knowledge of a lot of styles, textures, pipeline stuff - but when the software used purposefully pushes you to use realism as the defacto rule, man - we lose a lot of creativity to that.
Not that realism can't be creative. It can and does. A lot of video games look good, and photo realism, etc, does need to be art directed. But man... I knew what I wanted to do since I was 8. But the industry changes all the time. Nothing is sacred or permanent in an ever evolving software and hardware race for higher fidelity. You would think because of that, games would want more artists on their teams. But the opposite is the case, sadly. I guess I just miss the days where video games actually wanted you to be... creative? Like the video game would follow what *you* put down rather than only what the engine could do. Or at least follow to the best of their ability. That world is long gone, though. Or at least it is in a lot of the industry, save some Indies. I think I'm just tired. Everything you apply to, you have to make a new portfolio. Have to make a new site. My executive dysfunction cannot keep up, and man I'm glad I have my ADHD meds, but I know I have to change if I really want my career to be active and not a passing fancy. But it doesn't mean I don't wish for when the bar wasn't so high? Or at least the bar wasn't demanding you know how to also model in every 3d program under the sun and also can you give us a normals map. I'm good at what I do. I have the confidence in that. I've been hired plenty of times for various projects and high end ones at that. I guess I just wish it got my foot in the door more than it has. It's a lot of work keeping in touch and application fatigue is a thing. I just don't want my dreams to just be dreams, you know? I got a taste of that joy with contract work... and I don't want to lose that. But yeah. Sometimes its nice to imagine how being an early concept artist would be. Just another person on the team, doing weird world building and stuff. I ramble. Regardless, the only thing I can really change is myself. So if I have to kick myself into gear once more, I can do that. I'll figure it out. Somehow. It *does* probably mean less video game playtime though, lol. It do be the struggle bus. Nobody ever said art was an easy path. It sure isn't now, and it wasn't back then either. But in a world that constantly devalues you, fighting back sometimes means not giving up either. I'll never forget that people need me. They need my talents and my skills. And that will remain true for as long as people exist, I think. Modern struggles be damned. Yeah, it sucks... but, I'll be okay. One day at a time.
i know everyone is tired of hearing it from me but i'll never be free from how people think you can only ship a het ship WOKELY if the man is a pathetic useless idiot and the girl babysits and pegs him and has the personality of a door. i promise you won't get your woke card revoked if you spend five minutes of your time to consider the girl has a personality and the guy might be a competent person. and maybe she likes getting dicked down and is a little pathetic too. have you considered also liking the girl and maybe wanting her to be a spoiled baby too? also I'll Kill You

The RP community on Final Fantasy XIV does an annual Blitzball tournament every summer - and with Blitzball, comes an RP based fundraiser for ABTA (The American Brain Tumor Association) and Move United! . Some teams were in need of a logo face lift, and I was put in charge of that effort. It was a very fun project for a good cause, and I'm super stoked with how they all turned out. Even if you are not involved with the RP scene in Final Fantasy XIV, you can still donate on your own to these charities throughout the season. And soon to come are products with the team logos on them, in which all proceeds then go to specifically Move United! (The ABTA is a bonus Charity for this year!) A big thank you to the Etheriys Blitzball League and their leadership for reaching out to me for the opportunity! Here's hoping to a hopping season. "Teach us how to Blitz!"

i simply don't think nonbinary people should have to see having our gender/s respected and acknowledged as a luxury. i think it's frankly sickening that that's the state of things tbh.
sorry i just think that the fact that popular binary jokes are stuff like "god isn't it so much better to exist as my gender, i didn't even realize how incredibly depressed i was until i transitioned, my life is so much more rich and colorful now that im out and transitioning :)" and popular nonbinary jokes are stuff like "i think i might be nonbinary but that doesn't matter because i have real adult concerns and no one would respect it anyways lol" and that's. normal and funny and cool. yeah. clenches teeth so hard they turn to dust
happy nonbinary people's day. treat every nonbinary person you meet with as much compassion and respect as you possibly can or ill grind YOUR teeth to dust.
once tried to share a poem with my uncle about how awful it feels to be reduced to binary ideas of gender as a nonbinary trans dude who doesn't pass. hes a very supportive cis gay man who'd never intentionally disrespect my identity and even he kind of laughed at me when i shared it thinking it was like. supposed to be lighthearted or a joke in a way? even from one of the most compassionate people i know i feel like my identity and a massive chunk of my dysphoria comes off as a funny concept/nonserious. idk
