The Addams Family... This was a fun and nostalgic movie that had many callbacks to its history and lore. The character designs are from the comic strip, the cartoonish violence of the 90’s cartoon, the family core of the live action movies and it still works for 2019 and incorporated things from today. It’s fun, fast for the kids and adult kids. Great voice casting, I’d love to see Oscar Isaac play Gomez in a live action remake. He’s a proper successor to John Astin and Raul Julia in the role. You get great easter eggs and references throughout the movie. Ok so first and foremost it is called Joker but it has very little ties to the comics. This is definitely NOT a comic book movie in the traditional sense. That being said it is a well crafted, well acted movie. It is a layered piece that covers mental health, the haves/have nots social paradigm and what can happen when life pushes someone to the edge. There’s elements of The Killing Joke origin of The Joker present and it doesn’t shy away from the presence of Gotham City. It’s a time piece without outright saying it, the way it was filmed, costumes, everything speaks 70’s. This movie feels more like Taxi Driver, ironically Robert DeNiro has a key role, than anything out of a comic. Joaquin’s portrayal of an unstable human is remarkable. There’s still some parts that irked me as a comic fan but as soon as I realized what this movie wasn’t it’s when I was able to enjoy it for what it was. I know I’ve shown this before picture countless of times about were I was before I started taking action over my health and the damage that I’d done to myself. It’s been a little over a year since I was diagnosed as type 2 and my goals were to drop 100lbs and to not be on insulin, ever. I’m walking around 180-185lbs nowadays but today I had 1 of those victories, my doctor gave me the go ahead to stop taking metformin. It’s not insulin but it’s still a med to control diabetes. It’s been a hell of a year and it’s had bumps, once I get this hernia fixed I’ll be back on the grind full throttle! Anyone who’s known me for about 20 years knows that rock/metal/punk/hardcore shows are my constant thing and that the pit has been my mainstay lol and I’d be in there from the start of the show until the end. Up until last year when I made my changes from 2014-18 I could barely make it through 3-4 songs before getting winded and everything would hurt. Tonight foolishly with a hernia, I’m wearing double compression shorts under my clothes and I kept checking myself lol, I was in there for 3 full sets! So this new Lion King... I don’t think this is it chief. The movie’s effects and cinematography are amazing. It’s 98% shot for shot remake of the animated movie, but just like GVZ’s 90’s Psycho shot for shot remake, it lacks the charm and charisma that the original had. Some of the songs felt flat. They tried to keep it as close as to the original but it just doesn’t have the same impact. 65-35 as far as it being good, it’s still a great movie for the kids but for those who came up on the first one it’s meh.
