Twirling the key ring ‘round his finger, Dodger grinned, rather pleased with himself. He’d give it back to the body he’d nicked it from. Eventually. When they realized they was missing it, but he’d also had a record of 18 hours to beat from when he’d taken Johann’s keys and he wanted to see if he could beat it. ‘Sides, it was training for Bureau, he figured, and Dodger needed to keep his own skills sharp if anything.

Only checking his pace for a moment when the elf wizard appeared sudden like before him, his expression was all innocence. “What was slick–oy!” Dodger said, changing his words mid-phrase, slipping out of his usual denial with a burst of indignation.

“Was right impressive, that was! Don’t reckon you could do no better.”

‘Uh, please, kid. What are you, 12? Taako’s been stealing from people since before you were alive. You’re good, but I still caught you. It’s not the perfect crime ‘til you get away with no witnesses.’

Taako glances around the hangar, but there’s no one worth their time or attention here; there’s only Avi, and a few low-brow Bureau employees. Taako and this kid are better than that. 

‘Come on, my guy, these losers are too basic for us. Let’s go find someone fun to steal from. Y’ever been to the Fantasy Costco? Garfield has his shit on lock, but I bet we can do it. You’re good, and I’m better. We’ll make a great team! Taako and - uh, and... what’s your name, anyway?’

Fantasy! Fantasy AU

So this verse was roughed out with @piilak for a thread we were doing, but Todd and I were talking about it, and we wanted to expand it a bit more and submit it to everyone to bounce off of/join in with us if they like! So, feel free to do with this what you want to. We’ve primarily outlined it for The Ad.venture Z.one muses, but honestly everyone is free to join!

The Plot Summary

Prince Jackson, preferring to go by the nickname Dodger, ran away into the woods as a child because he resented being under the oppressive but distant rule of his father, the King. Not prepared for the trip, he quickly fell ill due to the cold weather and was only rescued when a dragon happened by. There he lived happily under the dragon’s protection for several years until knights from his kingdom finally tracked him down to return to the castle.

Back at the castle, Dodger finds that things have changed, or perhaps it’s just that he’s grown older, and he now realizes the importance of succeeding his father as the king. He reluctantly returns to his life as a prince. One night when the King and Queen are entertaining visiting ambassadors from a neighboring kingdom, a knight suddenly appears in the throne room who no one but Dodger recognizes–the dragon-turned-human An.gus McD.onald.

Hi-jinks ensue.

Muse Role Suggestions

Ta.ako and Lup as the new twin wizards in the realm. The last wizard died/retired/vanished in a cloud of smoke, which left the kingdom wanting in the magical department. Technically the king only wanted to hire one, but the twins are a package deal

Magnus, Carey, and Killian are knights of the realm. They operate primarily as officers in the military but also have small land ownings. Magnus is married to Julia who works as an armorer and weaponsmith. (Julia definitely knows something is going on when one of Magnus’s shirts disappears.)

Lucretia is the kingdom’s chronicler and manager of the library. She is v overworked, because the last chronicler did not do their job, and under-appreciated.

Merle is the groundskeeper and sometimes offers sage (get it) advice. Sometimes he tries to tell people about Pan. Do not approach when he is gardening, though.

Kravitz is the undertaker and graveyard keeper for the royal crypt.

Barry is Lup’s fiance and technically a scholar, although he also dabbles and spends a mysterious amount of time in the graveyard.

Johann is the court bard naturally.

Davenport is the commander of the army/navy, although he definitely seems to prefer the navy.

Leon as the realm’s artificer and one of the king’s advisers. He’s a dick

Garfield the Deals Merchant is a traveling merchant who purports to sell many fantastical and hard to come-by-wares, but is also a dick.

Other roles: townspeople in the capital, other nobles of the realm, other castle inhabitants including hostlers, advisers, tutors, seamstresses, tailors, armorers, blacksmiths, chefs, etc. maybe other dragons?? People from rival kingdoms???? Also idk who the Queen is.

Tentatively Sheriff Is.sak as the King? But really, it could be someone else. Is he actually cruel to the prince or just distant? Is he actually a bad ruler or just placed in a horrible situation where there is no good choice?

Thread Ideas

The neighboring kingdom has been acting sketchy as hell. There’s been an increase in border bandit raids even as the neighbors have sent their ambassadors for trade negotiations. What could they be plotting?

Hey, isn’t it weird that the prince was kidnapped (probably) by a dragon and now this knight from nowhere turns up claiming to have saved the prince?

The King is a jerk. Let’s figure out why!

What sort of training shenanigans do the knights get up to with Commanderport?

You know Ta.ako reaps sweet chaos in the kitchens. Those poor cooks. The food never tasted better though.

Honestly any fantasy nonsense you can think of–quests? Sure! Secret passages in the castle? Of course! Random magical mishaps? Yes, definitely.

Sure, he’d just come out of nowhere and fucked those gerblins up, but that didn’t make him cool automatically - even Merle landed a lucky punch every now and then. ‘What, did someone at Fantasy Hot Topic tell you it’d be a good idea to carry around a giant hammer? Did they tell you it’d be intimidating? I bet it’s made of foam.’

Taako is in the hangar trying to get more contraband from Avi when he sees it out of the corner of his eye. A Seeker, one Taako’s never spoken to before, walks quickly past another Bureau member and — in a split second, his hand flashes out, before going back into his coat. A pickpocket.

‘Hold that thought, Avi, I’ll talk to you later, my dude.’ Taako pats Avi on the shoulder, and moves to follow the Seeker. As soon as they’re out of earshot of other Bureau members, Taako casts Blink and materialises next to the Seeker.

‘Hey, kid, that — that was pretty fuckin’ slick back there.’ Taako puts a hand on his hip. ‘I’m almost impressed.’

   angus’  head  dipped,  looking  off  to  the  side  then,  tip  of  his  shoe  drilling  into  the  dirt  below.  he  didn’t  want  to  seem  sheepish  about  it  –  but  he  was  –  and  he  should  find  this  question  easy  to  answer.  a  yes  or  no,  right?  and  yet.

   ‘  well.  i’m  not  a  bad  person,  sir!  at  least  i  don’t  think  so.  is  that  too  narcissistic  to  think  so  …  ’

   but  angus  was  most  certainly  a  good  person,  especially  for  such  a  young  child  put  through  the  worst  of  it  and  still  finds  love  and  light  on  the  other  side.  though  angus  would  never  say  it  himself,  finding  it  far  too  …  out  of  character  to.  

   but  it  was,  without  a  doubt,  a  fact  that  angus  mcdonald  was  a  good  person  through  and  through.  since  birth  and  until  death.  without  being  asked  or  told  to  be.
