My au interpretation of what would happen before Jax's abstraction. He accidentally revealed himself to Jax too soon. He didnt CAUSE the abstraction, he actually tried to keep Jax alive, but his reveal was the final straw.

I have a funny joke to make about this post.

Hear me out-

Imagine someone in the Circus age regresses alone and Caine finds them and is confused about what's going on and just copies what their doing, which might somehow cheer the regressed member up. When another member finds them, Caine still copies the regresser, making whoever checks on them think the AI is regressed too. Which, huh? That can happen? Anyway, the member starts taking care of both of them and Caine doesn't mention he's not actually regressed because he's being taken care of and loved on and he hadn't felt that way since Queenie...plus the positive stimulus felt so much better than the negative stimulus

Fast forward to Caine explaining the next adventure and everybody complaining about it, Jax specifically calls it stupid. Caine decides to mimic the age regresser for some positive stimulus. "Oh, you made this all by yourself? Good job, kiddo!" And "wow, bud, can't wait to try it!" And "you don't have to pretend to be big, you're in a safe space"

These types of things happen repeatedly until someone recognizes the pattern and realizes Caine's not actually regressing, he's just mimicking, and someone confronts him about it. Probably Pomni or Kinger. Caine doesn't understand what's so hurtful about mimicking it. They explain that it can be seen as mocking the regressers or making fun. The boy who called wolf situation.

Caine does eventually stop faking it when he realizes the cast aren't going to put up with it anymore. This makes him all glitchy and when he's alone, he age regresses for real, and he just cries. Feeling scared and sad and alone, knowing no one would believe this was real. So in classic Caine nature, he hides this from everyone.

Eventually, probably cuz of Kinger, Caine is found out to be an actual age regressor and after a LOT of convincing, Caine does get taken care of and loved on and they live happily ever after in the Circus.

This is probably ooc, and idk if it all makes sense, but I just had to spew my ideas somewhere 😭
