No wonder about 22 Arab countries, 400 million Arab citizens and zero University among the first 100 in the world to represent them. I watched a news report that took place in front of the University of Jordan and the question was when the last book you read was? You can wonder around with your spacious imagination for the shameful answers, this question was addressed to students in front of one of the "most prestigious Jordanian universities”, then what do you expect from the general public?
Let me ask you a question, my dear reader, when was the last time you read a book?
The cultural status among the people of Jordan is shameful when compared to the rest of the world, and it shocks me when compared to the Arab world, I mean how dare us? They aren’t even on the scale! Reading is like a lamp that illuminates the mind and warms the soul of ignorance that surrounds them and especially in these difficult days and in our fight against ignorance, we need the light. Since I started reading my mind opened and welcomed this amazingly wide world, I don’t deny that the beginning was extremely difficult but I realized that the harvest will be abundant. What is needed to begin a journey of change in ourselves? What is needed for you to hold a book and read it? What is necessary to raise your intellectual awareness and guide others to the way? Do we need a divine order from god? We pretend to be religious when we apply nothing of it, wasn’t the first word in the Qur'an, "read"?!
I dream like everyone else dreams a better future for me and my country, but to change your country individuals must change, and individual change needs a real will and will is not generated without the light of knowledge. What are you waiting for wait, for your country to build itself? Arab universities are useless! Most students are only seeking a stamped paper for those four years of "studying", while in the rest of the universities of the world, people seek knowledge! We respect the "Engineer “who is ignorant and disrespect everyone below, because they are not a “doctor” or other ridiculous title. When a fourth year university student buys his graduation project from one of the libraries because he is "tired" or "don’t want to bother" What do you say to him? What do you say to a Dr Teaching physics at a university and receives his PhD in community studies (because it is easier and faster) to raise his salary or for the title”Dr.”? Personally, I say to hell with you and you paper! I lost my respect to every person that does not open a book because he is simply ignorant, regardless of his or her education, we must fight this phenomenon, this is the reason for our lack of creativity and productivity, the rest of the world is not better or smarter than we are, we are all human beings equal when born, Yes we can yes! We can silence the voices that hold us back, we can build a great civilization, we have to believe in ourselves and most of everything we must believe in others.
I do not ask the impossible, just bring a book and read it, if you don’t want to, just give your son or daughter a book to read, but better give them knowledge to read, and finally I conclude with the words of Mark Twain, who said " The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read”.
لا عجب أن حوالي 22 دولة عربية , 400 مليون مواطن عربي و صفر جامعة بين المئة الأوائل في العالم لتمثلهم . كنت في الأمس أحضر أحدى التقارير الأخبارية أمام الجامعة الأردنية و السؤال كان متى أخر كتاب قرأته ؟ يمكنكم بخيالكم الفسيح تخيل الأجوبة المخزية , فاذا كان هذا السؤال موجه للطلاب أمام احدى "أعرق الجامعات الأردنية " ماذا تتوقع من عامة الشعب ؟
دعني أوجه السؤال لك يا عزيزي القارئ متى كان أخر كتاب قرأته ؟
ان الحالة الثقافية لدى الشعب الأردني مخزية عند مقارنتها ببقية دول العالم , و أتعجب عند مقارنة وضعنا ببقية الدول العربية ,فهل هي مقياس لنقاس نحن به ؟! ان القرائة مصباح ينير العقل و يدفئ النفس من الجهل الذي يحيط بها , و في ايامنا العصيبة هذه و في حربنا ضد الجهل نحتاج للنور . منذ أن بدأت المطالعة تفتح عقلي لهاذا العالم الفسيح , لا أنكر أن البداية كانت صعبة لاكن كنت أدرك أن الحصاد سيكون وفير , ماذا يلزمنا لنبدأ رحلة تغير في أنفسنا ؟ ماذا يلزم لأن تمسك كتاب و تقرأه ؟ ماذا يلزم لترفع من مرتبتك الفكرية و لترشد الأخرين للطريق ؟ هل يلزمنا أمرٌ من رب العالمين ؟ نحن ندعي الدين لاكن لا نطبق حرفا منه , ألم تكن أول كلمات الخالق في القرأن " أقرأ" ؟
انا أحلم كما يحلم الكل بمستقبل أفضل لي و لوطني , لكن لتغير وطن يجب أن يتغير الفرد , ولتغير الفرد لابد من وجود ارادة حقيقية , و الأرادة لا تولد الا من نور المعرفة . ماذا تنتظر ؟ أن يبني وطنك نفسه بنفسه ؟ جامعاتنا العربية بلا فائدة ! فأغلب من يدرس فيها يسعى للورقة التي تختم بعد أربع سنوات"دراسة ", أما في بقية جامعات العالم فالناس تسعى للمعرفة ! للرفعة ! نحن نحترم" المهندس" الجاهل و نحقر كل ما دون لأنه ليس طبيب أو غيره من الألقاب السخيفة . عندما يدرس طالب الأربع سنوات و يشتري مشروعه التخرج من احدى المكتبات لأنه "تعبان" أو " ما بدو يغلب حالو" ! ماذا تقول له ؟ ماذا تقول لدكتور فيزياء جامعي حصل على شهادته في الدكتورا المجتمعية (لانها أسهل و أسرع) لرفع راتبه أو من أجل اللقب ؟ أنا شخصيا أقول له طز فيك و في شهادك , أنا فاقد أحترامي لكل شخص لا يفتح كتاب لأنه بكل بساطة جاهل بغض النظر عن تعليمه , يجب أن نحارب هذه الظاهرة , هذا سبب قلة أبداعنا و قلة انتاجيتنا , العالم ليس افضل فكلنا بشر سواسية , نستطيع نعم نستطيع ! نستطيع أن نخمد تلك الأصوات التي ترجعنا الى الخلف , نستطيع أن نبني حضارة رائعة , نستطيع أن نؤمن بأنفسنا و أهم من كل شيء نستطيع أن نؤمن بغيرنا .
أنا لا أطلب المستحيل فقط أحمل كتابا و أقرأ , أذا لم تكن تريد ذالك حبب أبنك أو أبنتك بالقراءة بل حببهم بالمعرفة , و في النهاية أختم بقول لمارك توين الذي قال " لا فضل لأنسان لا يقرأ على أنسان لا يستطيع القراءة " .
