its 2022 again and im going to talk about what an amazing character helly r/helena eagan is cos people give way too much credit to the men of severance when helly is arguably the co lead:

it's so fascinating how helly r and helena are two sides of the same coin separated only by circumstance and yet they're two women on either side of a moral and philosophical war. she's the same determined, stubborn woman who wants to fight against those who wish her harm. her outie though has incredible privilege as an eagan and therefore those traits are channeled into an almost dogmatic upholding of the status quo as it's directly benefits her. we don't know much about helena but by willing to go under severance for her family she must be pretty dedicated to her social class. when the same soul is on the other side of the capitalist system she rages against it. same traits, same soul, same morals? is it righteousness or is it entitlement? it's so interesting as a philosophical hypothetical because who are we to know how we would actually do if we were the ones with power? would my determination to fight oppression and injustice be so strong if i wasn't the opressed majority? as a white western person do i subconsciously uphold the inequality of a system i benefit from? forgive me for the harm I have caused this world. none may atone for my actions but me and only in me shall their stain live on. I am thankful to have been caught, my fall cut short by those with wizened hands. All I can be is sorry, and that is all I am... it's all so juicy like helly i am fascinated by you. the same woman who would commit suicide in protest would also split her conscious and subject another part of herself to hell??? all for what she believes in the correct moral code??? delicious
