During September we have had in Murter one short term EVS project called Dry Stone Wall Extravaganza. In this project 15 volunteers from Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Spain and Turkey were building and renovating the archaeological area called Colentum. Of course we were helping in this interesting action, and finally we got very satisfactory results and also new fantastic friends :)…

One year living in such a beautiful country – exploring is MUST TO DO thing. Our experience is saying: the best way to do it is hitchhiking!!!
No booked place to stay, no fixed plan of travel, just excited of meeting new people and thrill of discover unknown part of Croatia. We decided to trust the way and our destiny and hit the road again.
First stage: Opatija
Opatija was an obligatory stop in our trip, because we want to meet with our friends Samuel and Marta. Together we are the best Kraków – Galician team ever.
In the first part of the adventure we spent two days exploring Opatija and Lovran.
Second stage: Kamenjak – Pula
To reach Kamenjak was fast funny hitchhiking, we were really lucky, even when our stopping point was next to police car.
Kamenjak is an amazing headland where you can fully enjoy nature, and what is even more important, be a part of it by jumping from super – high cliffs.
After intensive day, it was time to visit our next point in Istria Adventure: Pula.
Third stage: Rovinj
In the beginning our plan was to go to Poreč, but the destiny has changed our direction. You always have to trust to the road. After the longest waiting ever (40 min – our personal record), when we almost give up and we were just about to change a hitchhiking point, the car has stopped and there she was – Sanja and her friend Ivan.
Sanja is amazing, absolutely beautiful person, for the first minute we felt as friends, not random people sharing car. And then magic has happened: as we did not have a place to stay, Sanja invited us to stay in her home. Of course we said YES!
We spend great time with Sanja and her friends: walking around Rovinj, discover the beauty of this amazing town, both during the day and night, drinking rakija as a locals do, and escaping from the storm ;)
For us Rovinj is one of the most beautiful places in Croatia, but it is because of people who make this town unforgettable. Rovinj connecting people!!!
Fourth stage: Poreč
Poreč was another of our obligatory stop in the trip – we really wanted to visit our friend Lara, other EVS volunteer in Croatia.
Fifth stage: Cres – Lošinj
In our way to Cres, we decided to visit some place in the centre of Istria.
Motovun was our choice. It is a picturesque village where we enjoyed the beautiful green landscapes of Istria.
Afterwards, we arrived to Brestova for take a ferry to Cres. Of course we did not have any clue how and where to go...We reached Cres, we left the ferry and...what now? Our traveller’s instinct pushed us to put our thumbs up. And then Tihomir took us.
Of course he thought that we are crazy women, because we told him that our plane is very simple: to put our tent somewhere and sleep there. Again miracle happened: our new Slovenian friends invited us to stay in his caravan in Lošinj. We spend two unforgettable days with Tim and his friends, exploring Lošinj Island, fishing and fighting with bura.
Final stage: come back to Murter
This trip was full of discoveries: good people, food, places, and moments. We really do not know if we were really lucky with our travel, or actually good things happen to good people and when you are starting your journey with positive attitude, karma will reward you.
Sometimes you have to leave your home as an adventurer and discover that all amazing things are waiting for you.
We discover that travelling is about people you will meet on your road, moments of sharing your experience and getting ready to discover unknown. This is one of extraordinary power of hitchhiking and travelling: the strangers becoming friends!
Finally, after 10 days we were hitchhiking 1150 km in 37 cars.
Now the road of hitchhikers is getting bigger and bigger. In six months we did 2330 km in 70 cars…and The Adventure Continues.
That was challenging action. We helped to prepare activities focusing on sea life theme and excursions to Kornati Islands National Park for youth and adults with disabilities from Šibenik.
During workshops based on non – formal education methods, we have learnt about threatened species occurring in Kornati Islands region.

The summary of my first 5 months doing EVS: Murter paradise
If you don’t like something in your lifestyle – change it – the power is in your hands! You can choose the direction of your life. Living your life in comfort zone might be easy but it doesn’t mean it’s the best way – just step out! :D
After five months in EVS I’ve realized that this is one of the most wonderful experiences in my life. It gave me the opportunity to grow as a person, improve my personal and language skills, help people, travel and meet new friends.
Important role in making this EVS the best experience played the place I choose for my EVS. Island Murter is a paradise and Croatia is full of awesome places which are waiting for me to explore them!
Between 16 May 2015 – 24 May 2015, we were participated in Youth Exchange organized by Argonauta. PLANT A TREE was an interesting and creative environmental action, based on the concept of learning by doing.
Project has provided youngsters with an opportunity to learn about nature, environment and how important is to take care of our planet. Moreover, the Youth Exchange action has given participants the possibility for work together and explore a topic of their common interest, chance to meet and share cultures, to recognize and accept diversity.
49 participants from Croatia, Macedonia, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Poland and Romania, through the various educational, creative, practical workshops and non-formal methods of education, were practiced their presentation, organisational, creative and animation skills, enriched knowledge on environmental topics, learnt how to reduce their footprint on the planet and how to preserve nature.
Find destination (or not), stand on safe place at the street, put your thumb up, wait and go! Enjoy your journey with stranger, who will become your friend :)
