mickey’s love for music had stemmed from his dad: before he got sick he would spend nearly every night playing around on a guitar or singing along to a song on the radio in the car but ever since the music in the house had been quieter. and with every passing day it left mickey desperately wanting to learn to play the guitar. so, he reached out to molly, the one person he knew could play the instrument to teach him this summer. after she said yes, he then asked his dad if he could borrow his guitar, to which it took some convincing. once they were all on the same page he asked molly to meet him at the park where he could learn without distraction. he arrived first, early as usual, putting down a blanket on the grass and strumming the instrument aimlessly waiting for the blonde girl to arrive.
molly felt honored when mickey had asked her to teach him how to play guitar; truthfully, she’d mostly taught herself, only taking a few brief lessons as a child and taking the rest from there. now the guitar was like an extension of herself, and she wanted nothing more than to share that love with others. spotting him instantly on the grass, she beamed, sprinting over to him with her own guitar packed safely away in the case she slung over her back. “moore! you already look like you know what you’re doing,” molly teased, taking a seat on the blanket he’d laid out and setting down her case. “so, enlighten me - how much do you already know? seems like you’re not a complete rookie.”

“i just wanted to know if you knew how to get to the hawkins orchestral hall, but no worries,” molly responded, noticing that the girl seemed to be thinking about something herself. “if you don’t mind me asking...what’s on your mind?”

nancy hadn’t been to intrude on the younger girl. she’d been looking for her brother and his group of friends. but it was typical nancy wheeler behavior to snoop into something a bit too long. the sound of music had stopped her in her tracks. there’s a quick knock on the frame of a door, nancy calling out to the other. “hey, was that you playing? it was..amazing. seriously.”
she thought she’d heard a knock, startled a bit, but figuring that someone was bound to hear her if she’d chosen to play in an empty classroom. glancing through the small window she saw the older girl, somewhat familiar, though she wasn’t sure from where. pausing, molly stood up and set down her guitar, opening the door with a warm smile. “hi, yeah...that was me. i guess i’m not too used to an audience, but i definitely welcome one, so...thanks! i could...take requests?”

fleetwood mac. her heart ached at the name. her mother used to love listening to fleetwood mac when she was still around, used to sing it to evelyn too. hell every day she came back home from school that’s mostly what she played. evelyn takes a deep breath and nods. “ which song ? ” she asks curiously.
something about the band seemed to strike the other girl, and molly wasn’t sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. but she waited for the other to respond before smiling back in return. “everywhere,” she answered, glancing back down at her guitar. “it’s my favorite song by them. just makes me...nostalgic.” she bit her lip for a moment, thinking of finn and how she’d sing this song to him. but that was a sad memory, one she didn’t want to focus on right now. so she looked back up at the girl instead. “what’s your favorite?”

jonathan enters panic mode as he sees the cassettes hit the ground. he shoves his own in his jacket and crouches down next to the girl, helping her. “ i should’ve looked before opening the door but you know⏤it’s shaded and everything. sorry. ” he apologises again before pausing in his tracks. he never got used to people recognising him. he used to be a nobody in high school but now everyone in town knew who he was. “ oh⏤ yeah. jonathan. ” he greets the girl. “ were you in his grade ? ” he asks, really unaware age differences.
“it’s okay, really, accidents happen,” molly assured him with a quick wave of her hand before picking up the rest of the cassettes, regathering them in her arms. “i really should’ve brought them in a bag or something anyway, but i guess i’ll be smarter next time.” she straightened up again, examining him. she could see the resemblance for sure. “i’m molly, nice to meet you! yeah, we had classes together and we talked a lot more during senior year, but i haven’t heard from him in a while.” she furrowed her eyebrows for a moment. “is he living with you?”

jonathan had just bought some new cassettes from the radioshack. most of them were old favourites but some were new and upcoming bands. he was eager to get home and share them with will, knowing they both enjoyed the same type of music and any time he got to spend with will and his music was a good time. but, being so distracted by his own thoughts, he barely had time to register anything before running into the girl outside the store on his way out. “ ⏤ oh shit, i’m sorry. are you okay ? ” he asks, reaching out to her apologetically.
she’d been on her way to donate some cassettes that she hadn’t listened to in years now, figuring she needed the space for some new ones that she’d wanted to get her hands on as soon as she saved up a bit of money. but she found that opening the door with a bag full of tapes in her arms was more difficult than she’d anticipated, particularly when the door swung open on its own accord and knocked the bag to the ground. she was fine, yes, but she hoped the cassettes were alright as she knelt down immediately to scatter them back into her arms. “it’s okay, really, i was just...struggling a bit,” molly admitted with an embarrassed chuckle, glancing up at who she’d knocked into. “hey! you’re will byers’ brother, right? you used to pick him up from school all the time.”

sitting by the town square evelyn hears a faint sound near her. at first the sound freaks her out, on edge. but then the sound becomes more familiar, noticing another girl with blonde hair playing guitar. “ that song sounds familiar. ” she mumbles, not noticing the other hears her.
she wasn’t sure whether she’d hoped to gain much attention from her guitar playing here or not; or rather, if she was expecting to. but apparently it had caught one girl’s attention, and molly looked up for a moment, strumming the last few notes before raising her eyebrows slightly. “have you listened to much fleetwood mac? it’s my favorite song by them.”
itsallfcryou:
though she wasn’t technically allowed at starcourt, hovering near scoops ahoy was a pretty safe bet, especially if steve was working. right now she sat perched behind the counter licking a triple layer ice cream cone ( though she really just wanted that waffle cone ), and keeping a close eye on the people around her. she watched as one girl went to pay and order, furrowing her eyebrows at the cards and photos on the ground. el did a quick look around to make sure no eyes were on her before quickly jerking her head up a bit. instantly the pages all gathered together in a neat pile then lifted to lay on the counter she hopped down and retrieved the stack, moving to the girl. “you dropped this,” she muttered, keeping her face down somewhat.
molly was about to take her first bite when she noticed the open bag, the spoon suddenly slipping from her fingers back into the bowl. shit. what if she’d lost something? had someone stolen something from her? before she could come up with another possibility, a girl was approaching her, holding a small stack of papers and plastic. instantly relieved, molly took the stack from her gratefully, quickly scanning through what she’d dropped. her debit card (yikes), a gift card for jcpenney’s, a photo of her with robin, with her friends, with...him. she hadn’t looked at the photo in what felt like forever, and simply remembering that she kept it with her made a wave of sadness wash over her. suddenly the joy from the banana float in front of her seemed to dissipate, but she stuffed the cards away nonchalantly, not wanting to fall into a sour mood in public. “thank you so much,” molly thanked the other girl sincerely, offering her a kind smile. “i hadn’t even noticed i’d dropped those.”
keannen:
and keane had thought that the conversation couldn’t get any more surprising. he stares, unblinking for a moment, as if trying to decipher her question in a more innocent manner. if she was serious, then there was a possibility that someone was trying to fuck with her - in which, he’d laugh if he wasn’t directly involved in the joke. keane combs his curls back with his fingers in habit. “what makes y’think i sell ‘em? and who told ya?”
she should’ve figured she’d need to be more discreet. or maybe she needed to prove herself somehow - still, she figured if this was a potential deal for him, why would he hesitate? what was with the questions? letting out a nervous sigh, molly shoved her hands into her pockets, shrugging nonchalantly. “i’ve just...heard it around, i dunno,” she muttered, eyes on the counter now rather than him. she just wanted this to be over with - she just wanted the medicine. she wasn’t used to making small talk over a drug deal. “no one in particular. do you have them?...or if this isn’t a good time or place, i can...meet somewhere else, later...”
