pls stop using ‘ocd’ as a replacement for detail-oriented, uptight, cleanly, or neat. it is not a synonym for any of these words, it’s the name of a very real disorder.

And also, there is a difference between Obsessive Compulsive *Personality* Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD is an anxiety disorder that is characterized by obessions and compulsive behaviors that can bring about panic levels if not performed. It can be very damaging to one’s quality of life and activities of daiy living.

OCPD is a Cluster C (anxious and fearful) personality disorder that consists of perfectionism and a need for control that can potentially interfere with quality of life. It is not as serious as OCD, and the two get conflated a lot. Appropriating either disorder, in terms of actually calling yourself “OCD” without a diagnosis, is not quirky or funny.

Also this is really great because I have never heard of ocpd and always invalidate myself around having ocd because my symptoms don’t send me into a full on panic but learning about opcd it actually sounds so much like Me that it just made me really happy to know that because now I can look more into that and gain some clarity and feel comfortable and validated with the symptoms I have

Also OCD is really commonly confused with being “Anal Retentive”. These are the behaviors where things have to be straight, organized, neat, orderly, the colors have to go in order, etc. Someone may straighten a line of pencils and say like “sorry I’m so OCD about stuff like that”. And that is not a symptom of OCD, or OCPD either, which deal with matters of control, but rather is just an annoyance at un-orderly things. The opposite to Anal Retentive is Anal Expulsive (gross ik omg) but that’s basically when people have 0 need for organization or neatness and they’re fine with it. But yeah so that’s another common one that people use OCD to explain. It’s being Anal Retentive :)
