Job cuts and frozen funding could inch one of the world’s rarest species even closer to extinction.
DOGE just froze funding to vital Federal and Indigenous conservation programs devoted to supporting the very delicate and tenuous existence of the black-footed ferret.
I fell in love with these animals as a kid traveling to our National Parks. Their rarity and ferocity made me sharply aware, even as a child, of just how much of a responsibility we have toward our environment. I can't bear the thought of them being a fucking casualty of Trump and Musk.
Look at them! They do war dances.
Okay I don't want to end this on doom and gloom, so I'm also going to add that the Buffalo Nations Grasslands Alliance was one of the indigenous-lead organizations who were supposed to receive a $1.1 million dollar grant that has since been frozen. But they do have a website and they do accept donations.
They are currently doing an emergency fundraiser!! Buffalo Nations Grasslands Alliance (BNGA) is raising $50,000 in emergency funds to support Tribal efforts to recover black-footed ferrets
Native American Tribes manage 14% of all remaining black-footed ferrets in the wild. Freezes of federal funding are jeopardizing their conse
They are 34% to their goal with 11 days left!
All I wanna do is create and give, the most basic of all human traits, but instead I am being STIFLED. This world and it's inhabitants do not want me to be human.
in light of recent events, i am seeing a lot of posts talking about punching nazis and fighting nazis. and that is good and all, but at the end of the day it is worthless if your activism starts and ends at condemning the nazi salute. antisemitism and nazism are more than sieg heiling and spray painting swastikas on a wall.
if you truly care about nazism, learn about its characteristics. learn what it really means. learn how it has affected and still affects jewish people. learn about antisemitism, about dogwhistles, about stereotypes. learn how to identify it when it's hidden, when it's not coming from right-wing white supremacists who openly hate jews, when it's coming from friends, or relatives, or other left-wing groups. identify what antisemitic beliefs you hold. fight antisemitism even when it is directed at jews you don't like or you disagree with.
and, above everything, support the jewish community. learn about their history, their culture, their customs. love jews more than you hate nazis.
international holocaust remembrance day is next week (january 27th). if you truly want to be an ally to the jewish community, condemning elon musk is not enough.
What would you guys consider the worst movie you've ever seen? Not something that's fun to make fun of, nothing you ironically enjoyed, I mean just an absolutely miserable moviegoing experience that you paid for, hated every second, and wish you had walked out of and asked for a refund.
For me, no joke, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. It did not even feel like a real movie to me. It made me see red! I was SEETHING with anger and annoyance throughout the entire thing, and I cannot for the life of me articulate why. I saw it once in 2012 when I was 15, I remember almost nothing about it now, but it struck a nerve with me like no other movie ever has before or since.
Tell me in the tags, which movie makes you disproportionately angry just thinking about it?
You've been cast into a fictional setting, and you don't get to pick your genre. This wheel picks it for you.
But you DO get to pick your role.

not now sweetie, mommy is watching how the massive girlbossification of female characters has led to the belief that weak and vulnerable female characters are badly written characters because apparently every woman needs to be outspoken and witty and snarky and brave in order to be considered “complex” and have any value in a piece of media!!
I rarely post here, but this is too important not to discuss. My home state is now on the verge of losing its state parks. Florida loses around 120 acres of natural land to development every day, 44,000 annually. Now they want to go after our state parks.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced that it will allow construction and urbanization, an unfortunately hideous and common sight in Florida these days, within nine of our state parks. These nine state parks are:
- Hillsborough River State Park, Tampa
- Honeymoon Island State Park, Clearwater
- Oleta River State Park, Biscayne Bay
- Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Stuart
- Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, Fort Lauderdale
- Anastasia State Park, St. Augustine
- Camp Helen State Park, Panama City Beach
- Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and Grayton Beach State Park, Santa Rosa Beach
The department wants to add golf courses, glamping areas, pickleball courts, etc. This proposed plan would destroy delicate ecosystems and strip plants and animals of their habitats, as if there isn't enough strain on our natural ecosystems already. It'll be disguised as "increasing accessibility," it's not.
Now is the time to stand up and say no. On August 27th from 3 to 4, there will be meetings taking place to discuss this proposition. If you live in those areas and want to go, the addresses are available on the Tampa Bay news article linked below. If you live outside of the area, call the Governor's office at (850) 717-9337 and let them know that Floridians are going to oppose the destruction of our state parks.
My family has been here for nine generations. I'm a descendant of the first settlers to Florida, and I'm tired of my home's natural wildlife being destroyed in the name of greed and corporate interests. Enough is enough. I will be attending the Hillsborough River State Park meeting if anyone wants to join me. On top of that, I will be calling the Governor's office. Every Floridian needs to oppose this and save the real Florida for future generations.

Florida’s environmental agency is floating the idea of golfing and lodges on state park property. Details are scarce.

Hey Guys, I need a big favor. it’s been brought to my attention that folks are trying to put resort style HOTELS, pickleball courts, and golf courses on the land of several Florida State Parks.
Even if you are not a Florida citizen, most people can connect with the fact that state parks are meant to connect you to nature. They’re not meant to be the home of resorts and golf courses, they are meant to be the home of wildlife.
I’m not good with words, and frankly I rarely intervene with things like this, but this hits hard. My best memories have been in our state parks. I’ve had picnics and enjoyed long walks in the wide open fields that some parks have.
If you are able, I BEG you, please sign this petition and email our governor Ron DeSantis in favor Against this.
Stop the Great Outdoors Initiative: Save Florida's State Parks from Harmful Developments
They may only be doing small parks now, but if they’re okay with this, it won’t be long before they start targeting more well-known parks. I don’t know if this is normal in other states but it’s is Not Normal in Florida and I refuse to let it ever be. Thank you for everyone’s support and please reblog this to reach more people.
FDEP Reschedules Public Hearings on Florida State Park Plans After Scathing Public Outcry
Jonathon Dixon State ParkPhoto: Friends of Jonathan Dickinson State Park The plan to develop some of Florida’s state parks with new amenities such as golf courses and pickleball courts has not yet been cancelled, but after overwhelmingly negative feedback from the public and pushback from Florida’s two US Senators, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has rescheduled public…
