Not marathi but as someone who has lived in maharashtra for a long time... it's always been kanda-batata and not pyaaz-aloo :) yes even in Hindi

Fun story: I was telling my chandigarh friend how I love kanda bhajji and she was like... wth is that. And when I did, she was like "oh pyaaz ke pakode" and I honestly saw red because those are not at all the same thing

Here's an interesting question to any Avatar fans who follow my blog or just see this post: If there was fifth Elemental society in the world of Avatar, what do you think their element would be, what might their bending style be (the type of fighting style their bending would be based on i mean) and would you see their society being like?

As someone who likes to read Indian philosophy and mythology, many early scholars regarded Akasha [translated: Space/Ether (or Aether if that's how you spell it)] as a part of the Panchatattva (the five elements), alongside Jal (Water), Prithvi (Earth), Agni (Fire, that's where the word Agni comes from) and Vayu (Wind/Air).

In philosophical terms, Akasha can refer to emptiness, potential, and the underlying space where everything exists. And where do we find this potential the most? Amongst non-benders, who are not defined by a single element. Non-benders who are thinkers, innovators, fighters, farmers and a large majority of the population.

In the Avatar world, we find that non-benders are part of every nation. Similar to the all-permeating nature of space, non-benders fill the gap.

"Nothingness is the basis of existence and the fundamental quality of the cosmos." (Not my quote)

If there were no non-benders in the ATLA-verse, then bending would have been regarded as normal. It is only because of the presence of Akasha (space/ emptiness) that allows other elements to flourish and develop.

I may be going off on a tangent here, but this theory of ATLA has been close to my heart. I originally developed it for my own ATLA fanfic, but I don't think I'm going to write it 😅.

My second theory is similar to Akasha (space) being the fifth element, but in this theory, stars and other celestial bodies (except the sun and moon) are given special importance. The nation in this theory is named Nakshatra (translated: constellations) and they have a special focus on astronomy and astrology.

Ok, so yesterday I went to see and dance in the ganpati visarjan of our building/ society

I've lived in Maharashtra for four years now, and did not get a chance to see it up close until yesterday (covid, exams etc. )

And guys 😭 it was so amazing. Everyone in the crowd was so energetic. From the 5 year olds to the seniors, they all were having fun, dancing, singing and chanting!! And don't get me started on the dhol tasha group (I love love love them) with their incredible synchronisation and talent.

And it got me thinking... how lucky I am to be born in a culture that is so vibrant and joyous. How lucky I am to be with people where I can express myself freely and just... enjoy life. I hope I can be lucky like that for the rest of my life and the next one.
