LA Casting Personalized Profile...Who Knew? (Clearly Not Me)
Those of you who know me are aware that I am a huge proponent of effective self marketing. You know the kind that you don't have to pay someone else for.
I think I find some useful tool almost every day (yesterday it was the Google Analytics app, but that's another story) and today my discovery made me feel a bit foolish. Here I have been paying my 9 dollars and change a month for nearly a year now to make sure I keep Mya-Louise's LA Casting profile updated and I did not know that I could have reserved a personalized URL for her all along at no additional charge.
In my opinion the personalized URL is an awesome tool to direct Casting Directors, Producer's, ETC to her resume since any CD worth their title has a professional LA Casting profile.
Ce La Vie and Silly me. So in case I am not the only one to have made this oversight and you also have an existing LA Casting account just do the following to claim your own personalized LA Casting URL:
Log in your LA Casting account.
Float your curser over the "Resume" tab on the far right of the tabbed menu that runs across the top of the page.
Select the last item in the pop up menu labeled "Link Resume" and follow the directions. Voila! You have just created your own personalized LA Casting URL.
Mya-Louise's profile is now located at www.lacasting.com/myalouise :-)
Qiana Nicole Photography is AWESOME!
So I have often referred people to my friend Qiana for pictures. Yesterday she shot my daughter Mya-Louise for some new headshot's and then stayed up until 5am to edit a few as a preview. Talk about dedication! But the finished product is, well INCREDIBLE!!! Tell me what you guys think. And if you want to have your child shot by Qiana Nicole there is now a "Mya-Louise Headshot Special" for kids ages 2-12. I am giddy lol!!!
Take a look:http://www.qiananicolephotography.com/category/head-shots/
If you are like me, anything that has to do with permits, DMV or any type of business that I can handle from the comfort of my home office rather than standing in some civic building line, I prefer to handle at home via the internet or telephone. So when I saw that you could link your child's current work permit to a new online profile and even renew them, get copies, etc via this portal I was thrilled. Well it took me about two hours of frustration and no progress to figure out the site must not be completely functional. Yes I am a little slow at times. But I figured why would the site be live if it didn't work?
So I trekked back to the Van Nuys permit office in search of answers. Here was the short answer: "Ma'am that site shouldn't even be up, we will send you a notice in the mail once it works." OOOOOKAY! So any other mommagers or anyone else that needs to get a work permit or wants to verify a minor work permit be forewarned that although the above system is live it is NOT fully functional.
As near as I can tell you are able to set up an online account but you are not currently able to link a permit to it. If you have a current permit or have had one in the last year you will receive a notice in the mail when the site is working with instructions on how to log in according to the woman whom I spoke with this past Monday.
You can also get a 10 day work permit but it is not free. You get it instantly online at the not so low low price of $50.00.
I hope this is helpful to someone!
Very funny shot from recent photo shoot where baby sister and mommy were unexpectedly running through her shot. She threw up her hands in disgust and the photog caught it!

Real Mommager Rule #1
Hey new Mommagers...do not be misled by breakdowns, audition postings or managers/agents who push you towards any services that include "dues"(or any such synonyms). You will never need to pay to audition or act. This includes theaters that inundate LA Casting with their so called Audition postings:-)
Kid's Casting Websites and Such
Hey all. I Thought I would share a little info based on a conversation I was having with another mom whose son is also in "the biz".
When I started setting up various profile pages for Mya-Louise almost a year ago I stated my purpose and intent was to share with other “momagers” our experiences regarding the process and progress (or lack thereof) as we delved headlong into making little Mya’s acting dreams reality.
I figured, why not? We have an advantage; I mean people move here every day from all over the world to be a “real live Hollywood star”! My kid wants to be on TV and we are already here in LA LA Land so let’s make this happen! That was and still is my attitude for the most part.
I am not going to go off on a tangent yet as I am saving that for a May 31, 2012 post which is the 1 year anniversary of her Facebook page being live. But I did want to share a couple of things that I realized I had neglected to share in our journey specifically regarding casting websites that may be helpful.
I know there are a ton of sites out there that will ask you to spend anywhere from $5 to $30 a month for membership that basically includes a profile, a place for a resume, endless links (the majority of them the same) and some reel/clip hosting oh yes and the ability to submit to casting calls. Most sites ask you to not post links to other sites and if you sign up for two or three of them you are out about $75 and you haven’t even left the house or met anyone.
Now I have filled out approximately ten or so of these profiles and tried a few free trial offers and paid for a few more. Now that I have done a little trial and error and gotten feedback from Mya-Louise’s new manager this is what I have learned:
Actorsaccess.com, extraccess.com IS worth your time. These are sites that are members of the Breakdown Services, Ltd. Family (Make sure you just pay the $56 to get a showfax account so you can submit for free to all the breakdowns matching your profile) and although it is hard to figure out what belongs to what part of the site, once you get the hang of it, I believe it has the most breakdowns available of any of the sites, followed closely only by Casting Networks site, LAcasting.com. Any other “breakdown sites” generally in my experience have just taken the liberty of scanning the first two sites and reposting their breakdowns and then charging you for it.
If you have questions on a specific site, please post it and I will give you my experience with it I have had any.
I keep saying that I am going to take the time to use site’s like Kabookit.com to find out which casting directors are actively booking but in the last year I haven’t had the time not once.
Hopefully this info helps somebody but I want people to know if your young one wants to act as badly as mine does then things will work out for their benefit if you stick to it as nearly as I can tell. All though it has been baby steps I have seen some amazing progress and even though I was determined to be a momager, thinking it couldn’t be harder then managing the R&B artists or comedians I have worked with in the past, I was simply flat out mistaken.
I don’t have access to all of the resources working with kids requires and with only one child as my “client” it would not be a sound investment to spend the money to acquire those resources. But there again I am getting into what I want to share on Anniversary Day!!!
Thanks for taking a moment to read this and hopefully it helps!
Mya-Louise five and fresh!
