I'm also kind of sick of political correctness.
Honestly, you people LOOK for things to be offended by. Words like “misogynist”, “slut-shamer”,”homophobe”, “intolerant” and the biggest one… “racist”, are just thrown around like you enjoy using them.
And before I go any further- I am SO sick of one word in particular- “slut-shaming”. Of COURSE it’s wrong to criticize anyone’s decisions without knowing their circumstance. But the implication is that women should not only be equal to men in the public eye but somehow be granted special treatment; that it’s not wrong to cheat on someone because it’s “their body”, or that they don’t deserve any scrutiny for sleeping around. I think that cheating is disgusting for both men and women and I think the physical and social consequences of sex on the sides of both parties are well-known and if you’re having sex be prepared to deal with those.
Hey, guess what? It’s not my body! Far be it from me to tell you how to use your body! But I’m not saying you’re immune to any sort of criticism from anyone.
But seriously, you’re not fooling anyone (or maybe you sadly are) into thinking you’re a better person by pretending to be offended when someone makes a joke about a group or whatever. Because it is SO obvious to me when you’re pretending. You don’t ACTUALLY care about these different races or sexual orientations. You just want to look like a better, more open-minded person by defending “special interest” groups.
I’ll say this: Republicans in general seem to pay absolutely no attention to respecting the individual. Democrats in general don’t either, but they tend to feign outrage when someone else doesn’t respect a certain group.
And there are racists, misogynists and homophobes out there. I would say if you really hate a group you wear it on your sleeve more often than not.
But if you’re pro-life, you’re not a misogynist.
If you’re straight, you’re not a homophobe.
If you dislike a person for who they are, you’re not a racist.
Now you COULD BE both or any combination of those things. But let’s be reasonable.
For example, I don’t use the words “gay” or “retarded” negatively out of respect for those groups. But i also don’t think that if you use those words, you hate those groups. And I certainly don’t think you deserve to be grouped in with a group of people that hate those groups of people.
See, political correctness can become an acidic thing that tears us all into smaller groups!
The TRUE enemy is collectivism.
We are all individuals and have our own characteristics, traits, appearances, personalities, etc.
You’re not part of some group! You share characteristics with other people and that’s awesome but you are an individual and that makes you beautiful!
Now political correctness when it comes to not discussing politics is dangerous too. We should be discussing politics! We live here! Make decisions, change minds, educate yourself and participate! What’s sick is using tragedies like Newtown to further anti-gun agenda.
You can use whatever method you want to decide with whom you do and don’t want to associate with. And that’s cool!
I personally think personality is the greatest measure.
But do not, do NOT categorize people.
