OBLIGATORY HEADER POST:

Here’s just some basic info about who this character (code named “Dew”) is and their Pokémon team:

1. My normal blog is @asquared-ohgodnotthehorrors , and I did post some PokeMedia stuff over there so some lore will need to be restated. This is more just for the RP content tbh.

2. The team this character has:

- Torrent, the Dewott. A very competitive Dewott in all senses, from actual Pokémon battles to board/video games to Cooking. Is also a moderate media enjoyer/weeb, and is also a move junkie, using TMs and remembering moves near obsessively. Nature is Quirky, Ability is… Torrent, and is this character’s first Pokémon.

- Nova, the Volcarona. Was raised from an egg as a Larvesta and evolved… not through a lot of battle which is weird. Very mild mannered, but gets riled up when needed. Is therefore Mild, and has ability Flame Body. Sheds burning scales once a month. Is also an Intersex Volcarona.

- Queen, the Cincinno. Is extremely haughty and a major diva. Suspected to also be a sadist? But helps clean around the house (was caught as a Mincinno for this very purpose), and is one of the sole force keeping the house burning down because of Nova’s shedding. Has a King’s Rock on at all times, has the ability Skill Link, and is considered Adamant.

- Kirby, the Hydreigon. Is a foster Pokémon that once belonged to Ghetsis, broke free, was calmed by Queen, and now is being fostered and his long term health issues are being cared for. Not a lot is known about him personally however, except he trusts Queen a lot.

3. This character refuses to put his name or likeness on the internet. He doesn’t want people to use that against him. He will go by “Dew” if that’s easier though.

4. Despite his Pokémon being fairly strong, and doing a lot of fighting, this trainer is far from professional, and only has a Basic Badge he renews every once in a while when his team wants to do a battle trip. Considering doing the Unova gym challenge before college however.

5. His team has their own secret lives. Queen finds items she hands to novice trainers who pass by, Torrent runs errands and goes to stores sometimes, and Nova flies off every now and then, often bringing along other members of the team too. Dew is concerned, but not enough to look into it.

Hey! I had a question about galvantula? She's not wild caught, I hatched her from an egg. I know there can be challenges with just human raised pokemon, but we were doing well. The only thing is, she hasn't been building webs. I was told in the care guide that that's important to this pokemon species. Someone told me if I pick up crochet or knitting it might motivate her. Is there any merit in that idea?

well, i wouldn't ask whoever told you about the knitting idea for any more care advice. unfortunately, that's a bit nonsensical. a galvantula won't make the connection between knitting and web building. web building is an inherently understood skill for galvantula, and it's something they do as needed- they don't need to be taught or encouraged to do it.

first off, visit your vet to make sure this isn't a medical issue. galvantula silk is produced by glands and then woven using a specialized organ; an issue at any point in that process could prevent web construction. if it's not a medical problem, then you need to look at her overall care. do you feed live prey? galvantula use their webs primarily for catching prey, but if she's used to a frozen-thawed diet, she won't produce as many webs. does she battle or share space with other pokemon? galvantula's webs are also a defense mechanism and a way of claiming territory. but building webs takes a lot of energy, because silk is primarily made of protein that has to be replenished over time, so she might just be choosing not to lay webs if she doesn't have a need to.

it's definitely odd to not see webs from a galvantula, but i don't think it's necessarily a requirement for their care that they build webs. so long as she has other outlets for excess electricity and seems comfortable and happy, this isn't automatically a sign that something is wrong. but i'd get her checked out for physical issues just in case.
