i just finished my first year of collegiate novice coxing. i want to emphasize one of the biggest things i learned. your weight is not an indicator of your ability. i am 5'5, 124 lbs. we had one novice boat and 2 novice coxswains. i have 20 lbs on the other girl. but 4/5 races, i was driving. at sprints we raced in a 3v category despite being pure novice and took 3rd in our heat by .15 seconds. we won against that boat not despite my weight, but because of my other skills. the girls wanted me in that boat for a lot of reasons, regardless of weight. and yeah, i’m trying to lose 5lbs for varsity this summer by eating better, but i’m never going to be that 110 lb cox, and it doesn’t matter. don’t let your weight hold you back.
