This isn’t a post to shame parents who use disposable diapers, it isn’t to follow a trend, and it isn’t to put anyone’s choices on a pedestal. I am sharing these facts because this is something I have thought A LOT about since becoming a mama, and I feel like it isn’t being talked about enough. There’s so many reasons why folks choose disposables, whether it’s because that’s all they know, or they think it’s all they can afford, or they don’t have time for an extra load of laundry a week…there’s a million reasons, and I get that cloth diapers can seem like an overwhelming thing to take on. It’s like where do you even start? I hear you, I had the same thought myself, and I don’t judge you for your choices. I know we are all just trying to do the best for our families. But, I couldn’t feel good about the amount of trash we would be making if we used disposables, so I started doing some research, talking to other mamas, and figuring out how I could make cloth work for us. There are a ton of resources out there, from YouTube videos to Facebook groups, and it didn’t take long for me to have a decent idea of how I wanted to go about it. I bought all our diapers secondhand and spent around $250 dollars total. (How much would I have spent for two years worth of disposables??) I have enough to last me about around 6 days, so I only do an extra load of laundry per week, and it takes me around 20 minutes to assemble them all once they are clean. The ones I have are adjustable, so we’ve been using them since she was a few weeks old and will continue to use them until she learns to use the toilet. They fit comfortably, barely ever leak, don’t give rashes, save us money, aren’t terribly time consuming to take care of, and they are adorable. We love them! I sincerely cannot imagine having gone about this any other way and I feel good knowing that this was the right choice for us, and our planet. So really, this post is just to say that it’s worth thinking about if you are expecting a baby, or are planning to have another in the future. We are proof that it can be done on a budget, with a busy lifestyle. Please, just give it a thought ♡♡♡ It matters!
