Climate & Global Warming Ideas + Plans of Action

Since everyone in congress and the entire federal government seems to have been completely overwhelmed and overworked right now I think it’s a good idea, for those of us who care about the New Green Dream, to brainstorm some ideas about Dreaming Green! Below are some ideas I wrote down!

What’s best for each individuals is best for us all!

The market functions better where there is not a lack of physical, intellectual, or emotional resources to support the flow of the economy, and as such those areas are where government intervention can benefit.

"Clean Energy Mitigation Agency"

- Solar panel recycling research

- Windmill research to prevent bird 🦅 collisions into windmills (maybe use sound recordings of other birds, or bird feeders, as long as it’s not that cheep ass bird feed)

- Electric car battery recycling research

- Alternative plastic disposal research program

- Public Transport Redesign

- Ethanol research program

- Insulation research

- Hydroponic research

NASA is hella cool!!!! - Historically investment in NASA has lifted the American economy because what NASA has discovered with its funding is research into new technologies, such as hydroponic farming and high tech camera photography which propelled the creation of cell phone cameras.

Forest Restoration Projects!!

There is always energy in flowing water. America's sewer systems are always flowing, dumping thousands if not millions of gallons of sewage waste every year. That's a lot of water flowing, and we know that sewage systems are designed to dump into pre-designated areas. Lets just harvest some energy from those systems.

As an added benefit I also think this agency (CEMA) should produce government issued CREMA much in the way the US government produced government cheese. The CREMA can be called CEMA CREMA and we can eat it with tacos and/or other things such as nachos and quesedillas

The green new deal is good policy even if you don’t believe climate change is real! 😸

These green new deal ideas are based on the belief that climate change solutions are going to be a collective effort by many people on multiple fronts. Much like a car mechanic can’t fix every problem with a screwdriver, global warming cannot be solved single handedly.

These ideas are also based on a belief that a regulatory approach may not be the only approach towards climate change solutions, but rather developing a program/plan that encourages entrepreneurship could be the answer.

James Cameron said that global warming is like Thelma and Louise driving straight towards the edge of the cliff and to that I say: if climate change is like the Titanic, at least the icebergs might be melted enough that we won’t crash straight into them 🤷‍♂️

Hey there, thank you for the interest! I showed a couple of sneak previews of a series at the KMUD film festival back in March/April, and right now we’re wrapping up post production on that project which is a 10 part series filmed in Humboldt County back in 2018, so keep any eye out for it—I will post a link here or on my Instagram page, but likely I’m thinking you might find it on YouTube! :)

Rough Concept Diagram!

Back in 2016 when I was working on a small cannabis farm I had an idea to pump water from the ponds on our property to the tanks. At the time we would have to manually set the electric pump to fill the tanks which would take a lot of time, and sometimes people would forget the water was running and it would spill onto the ground, so I had a sort of silly idea to build a water pump system that would move water into the tank through a system. I don’t know if it’ll work, but I like the idea :)

If it is broke, give it 200$ to buy clothes and groceries! Not everyone who is homeless is homeless because they have mental health issues. They have mental health issues because they're homeless. This just in: it sucks living on the street! And while we're at it--

If I actually believed that eating an ordinary apple would traumatize me for my whole life then I wouldn’t eat apples, and if people start to associate good things with traumatic feelings then they might actually begin to experience trauma! It doesn’t have to be that big of a deal if someone grabs your ass - I mean, maybe I'm just speaking for my own ass - and believe me, it isn't that big of a deal for everyone, (*wink *wink), and for a country that makes such a concerted effort to roast "incels" into oblivion it may be important to realize how good it sometimes feels to have someone grab your ass! It doesn’t have to be creepy to photograph someone who you know, in a public space! Taco Bell food is actually kind of ok! For 2.17 you can get 940 calories of a cheesy bean burrito! For caring to much about an ass grab you can get years of therapy and a medical bill that would make someone who eats at Taco Bell actually appreciate some relatively intense diarrhea! I know you think ass grabs are offensive, but I think poop jokes are offensive and I can still say something about Taco Bell diarrhea! You know why? Because it's America, baby! Listen, I don't like poop jokes, but I'll make one for lady liberty! The founding fathers wrote the 8th amendment into the constitution for a reason--because throwing the hammer down on somebody so hard for some kinda of mental health 'trauma' that can be easily managed with a beer or a packet of M&M's creates an atmosphere of suspicion and anxiety for everyone. An ass grab doesn’t have to turn into a psychological colonoscopy! I’m not playing you like a fiddle, I just want to know how firm it is! I want to grab your butt! Feel free to test the solidity of my face with your fist if you disagree! And if you do agree? Well then maybe you can test the solidity of something else!

Hasn't anyone ever read the story about the boy who cried wolf? Crazy just isn’t that crazy anymore—it’s kind of like if you start calling the color red the color blue then after a while the word blue and the word red start to just mean the same thing. Red and blue things might smell or taste the same, but the colors don’t. Hell, even if you're color blind you're still going to see different shades of grey. Here’s a joke: what’s red and smells like blue paint? Red paint! Some things might smell the same but that doesn’t mean they look the same. The next time you’re walking down the street and see someone running around waving their hands in the air like a crazy person, maybe they’re just saying hi to the imaginary unicorns they’re seeing! People might have to to start being more specific about their “Me Too”, because what is your “Me too?” Were you groped at a party? Were you molested in the back of a dark alleyway by six people? Is there a difference, and should I care? The Me Too movement got out of hand when the "Time Up’s” movement turned it into a witch hunt, and it’s time we all admit it instead of ignoring things we can do to actually make it better, or pretending like it’s not a big deal. Because it is a big deal, right? Just as my unicorn chasing friends might think it's normal to run around waving their hands in the air, some people might think it's normal to cause a little drama about ass grabbing, and the media doesn't have to take every tabloid story and blow it out of proportion. How will we know when it's really serious if everything is such a huge deal?

Speaking of crazy--Fame was better before we started trying to redefine it, or maybe just when Kanye West started trying to redefine it. And lets face it--Fame has always had its pitfalls, but that is a part of the American dream: being famous is something a lot of people pine for. Maybe Kanye’s “Famous” should be called “Fakeous”, a self reflexive look at the very real fake mannequins of celebrities who are even more famous than he is. And the next time one of the real life versions of one of those “fake” mannequins gets elected president and screams “fake news is the enemy of the people” after the fact, for 4 long, excruciating years, maybe get a clue and apologize! Or make a better video! [Oh wait...] Dressing up like yourself and pretending to be interested in what you’re saying is a sorry excuse for wanting to alleviate the uncomfortably awkward moment you initiated when you created a naked mannequin of other people’s actual bodies, without their consent! Or hers. Or hers. Or his. You get the point.

Maybe Kanye West should to rethink his “Famous” music video if he really wants to be considered an “artistic genius”. Geniuses know that it sometimes takes a lot of effort to get it right. Even Einstein couldn’t get it up until his wife busted out the leather whips and started calling him sugar baby!

And by the way, when we talk about justice for victims of sexual harassment, that’s all fine to strive towards, but when you ruin people’s careers and ostracize them from their peers without even giving them a fair trial, then you might just be a bigger threat to democracy and people’s comfort. Or when you think good music is slut shaming your colleagues! I mean c'mon, this is America! We're all a little slutty every now and again!

Thoughts on ‘Triggering!’ 6.12.20

Rough draft notes:

‘Triggering’ describes an emotional recollection to traumatic past experiences, with its catalyst being a present experience, traumatic or not. ‘Triggering’ does NOT describe a moment where trauma is experienced, and it does NOT describe a moment where trauma is intentionally, or unintentionally received from another person or catalyst.

‘Triggering’ can happen as a response to ANYTHING the brain associated with a traumatic memory: a person who resembles an abuser, a word which was used to demean, even a book which someone associates with abusive thoughts. People can be ‘triggered’ from the wind blowing, or a match being struck.

When someone is ‘triggered’, they 1) have a difficulty distinguishing past experiences from current ones and 2) experience a contradiction in the mind where the current emotions associated with the catalyst are not predictable to the emotions they recollect and associate with the catalyst.

‘Triggering’ moments are different for different people. Many people have experienced traumatic experiences to varying degrees from varying sources, conditions or circumstances, and it is unfair to assume any one person would be aware that they are triggering another person through their own personal experience with an act, object, or thought.

When someone makes another person aware that a specific catalyst that that person has introduced, or that they are collectively experiencing, has ‘triggered’ a traumatic emotional response, the person making the other person aware that they were ‘triggered’ has in such a situation effectively created a new emotional association for that other person and their emotions associated with the catalyst

In layman’s terms, you’re triggering me when you tell me I’m triggering you.

The even more horrifying reality of these stats is the distrust in science and facts that have been pushed for the past 4 years; the idea that news is “Fake” was a satiating one, because it created a feeling that maybe all of those horrible things we were reading weren’t actually happening.

My thoughts on Canary (The Washington Post)

I recently listening to some Chapters of Canary, a story featured in The Washington Post and curated by Amy Brittain and co.

Canary does a pretty good job of exposing dark hidden truths in the criminal justice system while also painting a riveting portrait of sexual assault victims, that comes off as both non-intrusive and intimate. It raises a lot of important questions about the nature of sexual assault, and the interweaving stories that develop from a victim’s search for justice. Amy Brittain takes a self-reflexive approach towards understanding the importance of the story in sexual assault cases, and that’s what I love about this podcast. She asks the question “[where is a good place to end a story].”

That is sometimes an important question to ask, especially in the case of sexual assault. In chapter 5 one of the victim’s who was profiled in this story presses Amy to believe that the goal should be to “[find the truth],” and yes, that is the job that journalists do. But what does the victim think the truth is? That’s what I want to know, and that is the only part of Canary I take a fault with. A sexual assault victim’s truth is their own, and it was odd that the victim would suggest otherwise after all the hubbub surrounding her battle with Judge Morrison.

At times it feels like the victim treats Amy Brittain like her therapist, which, as a journalist I can relate to and understand. I don’t agree with any interview subject’s intention to treat journalists like their therapists, but that is something that happens from time to time. It’s always hard to establish the boundaries of a journalist’s role, especially when dealing with trauma victims and especially when the mass media is blamed for mental health issues. Some people believe objectivity isn’t something that can every really be achieved, and having said that, I do believe there is a pretty thick line between being a therapist and just talking to someone about stuff and things, and emotions, or whatever. Still, the relationship between Amy Brittain and her interview subjects is fascinating and worth listening to.

I was a little confused about why the victim was worried about this story being sensationalized. This story is sensational regardless of whether or not anyone is putting a lens on it, and it seemed like she was somehow suggesting that Amy Brittain’s influence would somehow change that fact. As far as I can tell you can’t sensationalize your own perspective of a story: even the sensationalized version is your perspective, even if it’s not other people’s-/

Having said that, we all make judgements, don’t we? So whatevs, or something like that 🤷‍♂️ *[one line expanded upon from a previous version: “You can’t sensationalize your own perspective.”

Controlled Burn 12.6.20 (Southern Humboldt)

We’ve had a lot of scary fires in California, but some fires are cool. This is a landscape in Southern Humboldt County photographed shortly after some local firefighters purposely lit it on fire in what is known as a controlled burn.

Because it had started raining, the moisture in the ground keeps fire from getting too big or out of control, but it’s not too wet to not be able to burn shrubbery. The purpose of burning land like this is to create what’s known as a fire break.

If a fire comes through this area next year, it will at least slow down at this spot, and maybe even not burn it at all because the fire fuel (grass, wood chips, shrubbery, etc.) that was on the ground in this area before the burn has mostly burned up.

Fighting fires like this gives firefighters the option in a potential fire in the future to protect nearby homes, or even create a larger fire break around the same spot if a fire gets too near to where this controlled burn happened.

This year’s August Complex fire was huge; the biggest in known California history in fact. Just 10 miles down the road some of the Emerald Triangle’s bravest were able to prevent it from getting any closer.

And if cool fires aren’t your thing, try something that really brings the heat! Safely, of course ;)

Thoughts on Global Warming 12.4.20

As we come to a standstill in the fight against global warming it’s important to realize the mental toll it can take on us all. The challenge of trying to figure out the logistics of living with rising temperatures and finding solutions for the entire planet can be overwhelming and at times feel impossible, and oftentimes the task of having to think about yourself and the country you are living in with respect to the entire world, or the entire world itself, is often just reserved for world leaders. We all have to be world leaders now. “Think global, ACT local” is a phrase I hear around here which I have found helps to simply maintain my own sanity when confronting these issues relating to global warming. We have the tools and knowledge to fix the planet; the real task will be returning our minds to a state of normalcy.

Re: Coronavirus

Some of you might not think coronavirus is as bad as we had originally thought, but it’s still real and is still effecting people’s lives. We have to be careful about how we look back on the way we responded to the virus—virus’s happen, and in the future another could pop up and be even worse; if we bash the government’s response to the virus, our own response to the virus, or fault ourselves and/or prance around talking about how it’s not that big of a deal then we may risk being slower to respond to another virus in the future. It’s kind of like the story of the boy who cried wolf, who screamed about a wolf just to get attention, and he did it so many times that when a real wolf appeared nobody believed him. I think we need to find a way to be ok with the way we all responded to Coronavirus; improving our worst-case-scenario responses for the future while focusing on the good aspects about how we reacted and being realistic about the overall effort.
