Joana Choumali (Ivorian) - Even A Storm Can't Break It (mixed media, embroidery, paint, manual collage, sheer fabric, and digital photograph printed on canvas, 2024)
Funny growing up in the late 2000s and seeing constant "don't text and drive" warnings, PSAs telling us to put our phones down behind the wheel, wait until you're home to send that text, a phone-distracted driver is a deadly driver etc etc
Only for modern car manufacturers to be like "we made the car a phone :) now you have to text and drive to change the radio station :)"

I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

"Using an Oxford comma is a sign of AI"
bestie boo, let me fill you in on something: if you're going to take any part of 'good grammar' and randomly assign it to She's A Witch! AI, you might as well give up. It's over. You're cooked. Anyone who has spent the last decade or more learning to type properly, anyone who has spent any time writing articles/papers/essays that require you to use 'good grammar' is going to fall into that 'oh no it might be AI' trap.
Stop hunting like it's 1692. You're not going to find Goody Proctor at the ChatGPT sacrament. What you're going to do is exactly what happened back then: harming people who've done nothing wrong.
can I reblog this a million times
The annoying racism of people who give western children's cartoons all the grace and patience and understanding for having the briefest hint of a queer relationship between unnamed side characters and call it massive progress
And yet when they see an anime chiefly about the relationship between two women its "unwatchable queerbait" because they're not making out sloppy style an hour in
And its always explained away with, well the creators were trrrrrrying to get gay stuff in but the big bad expects wouldn't let them.
Meanwhile Japanese stuff is always treated as a monocultural bloc where either it did it for male gaze reasons or didnt for homophobia reasons
Its like tp these people only western creators can ever have the will power and independent throught to diverge from their cultural expections
White people think only they are possessed of independent Will the rest of us are just at the mercy of the gravitational pull of our Culture™️, a sort of cosmic ray which famously hijacks people with any skin tone darker than beige and forces them into Practices and Behaviours

My Twitter feed has been nonstop discourse about Is Problematic Fiction Okay and it's kind of interesting how like, if you don't have a lot going on in your real life/your real life is sufficiently awful enough where most of your mind is dedicated to fiction, fiction itself ceases to be A Thing Which Fulfills A Function and begins to be a second reality in which the presence of evil indicates interior pollution. Why are you failing to filter out The Bad Things from the other world? You LIKE bad things? If you are willing to let Bad Things exist in one world, you must love it in this one as well. The veil between those two realities are porous and if you're insufficiently angry about something in fiction you'll become Infected and soon you'll end up liking those things in reality too and you have to be vigilant, you have to be CONSTANTLY CAREFUL OR ELSE!!
It's kind of maddening but also terribly interesting. Like I understand where it's coming from in the sense that I was also once at rock bottom and that was pretty much how I thought until my life improved, but it's also like, idk, completely bonkers and funny
"I was nearly groomed by an incest gif of the Gravity Falls twins" "I feel so disillusioned by problematic authors it's made reading so hard for me I almost want to give up on the hobby" "It's so hard watching animated shows when so many showrunners end up being proshippers" everyone needs to smoke weed and watch Seven Samurai (1954) right now
On the one hand, i’m amused at the joke. On the other hand, I’m a librarian and this shelving is horrifying.
Well, no shelving system is without fault.
