sherlock&co is the one sherlock adaptation that im okay with not making romantic johnlock. because john and sherlock are already so found family. they are soulmates. they love each other in a way that is special to them. i don't care if it's romantic, platonic, or a secret third thing. their relationship is important and strong and beautiful either way.
does anyone ever get into a magic reveal wherein Arthur is upset not only about why did you never tell me but also grieving that I was hurting you for so long and never even knew.
Cause I see a lot of complex emotions in Arthur and merlin surrounding various magic reveal scenarios- the betrayal, the love, the sadness of now being trusted by the one you trusted the most, thinking you had someoneās full heart but it turns out you didnāt, the confusion and love lingering behind the anger, but what I donāt see often is Arthur being consumed by the thought that, all this time, he was causing the man he loved so much fear and pain. Yes he wishes that merlin trusted him sooner, but he also realizes that heās been seen as a weapon by the person he always let his guard down to the most and grieves for merlin that thatās who he was to him. I also think this is why there is no way that Arthur didnāt know how much merlin loved him in the end. he realized he was loved so deeply that even if merlin subconsciously feared him as a weapon and arbiter of death, he stayed with Arthur and cared for him and valued him above any other for no other reason than love.
but seriously could you imagine finding out that someone you share a soul bond with and that you love so deeply and purely fears their life while existing around you? Id be devastated on their behalf, like the last thing I would ever want is for them to fear me but Iād also be in awe that they stayed anyways and Iād do anything I could to ensure they felt safe around me like I do around them. magic reveals can be explored in so many different ways and I would love to see more people flesh out that response
bbc merlin - 04x01 The Darkest Hour, Part I
he's so smitten it makes him look STUPID
āDonāt let it get to that big head of yours, Merlin.
I just⦠thought you were dead.ā
I was minding my own goddamn business only to suddenly remember this scene exists
I don't know how to explain it, but it's addressing something so visceral in me.
Like. Did anyone ever expand on how Arthur literally didn't even blink before getting up to save Merlin from the onslaught he would have faced for his outrage? He just got up immediately and took Merlin away, held and handled his anger, and even gave him the respite (visiting Gaius) that he needed.
Wtf. Like boy no you're not supposed to be this fucking in sync with your manservant's reactions. But it's as if he predicted it even, because he saw in Merlin the exact same reaction he wanted to do, but had the tact not to because he grew up with boundaries. So he goes on to save his boy instead.
Sick of how much these two loved each other

I wanna push you around
Noble: When I'd heard that Prince Consort Merlin used to be a peasant I'll admit I had my concerns but he is quite the proper gentleman. He's polite, respectful, always uses the proper titles, he's- Arthur: Mad at me Noble: Excuse me, Sire? Arthur: He's mad at me. He only ever puts on this performance of being the perfect consort when he's mad at me, he knows it drives me crazy Merlin: Is there anything you need from me before I retire to my chambers Sire? Arthur: You can tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it and you can go back to insulting me
I know the fandom generally agrees merlin and arthur would sort out the magic ban before getting married. But i got to say it would be objectively hilarious to watch King/Prince Consort of fucking Camelot, the OG magic hater, just prance around, lax as fuck because who the hell is brave enough to accuse the literal 2nd most important person in Albion of breaking the law? š¤£
Like just imagine all the dialogues that could come out of it:
Magic-Hating Noble: I watched the chair levitate!
Merlin: I was the only other person in the room at the time... :/
Arthur: Are you accusing your King Consort of sorcery? *royal angry face*
Magic-Hating Noble: No! No... sire.
Arthur: Are you... accusing yourself of sorcery?
Magic-Hating Noble: ...
*merlin in the background making no effort to hide the fact that he's literally reading a spell book*
Merlin: *Teleporting into a busy council meeting because he's late*
Everyone: *Stares*
Merlin:
Arthur:
Everyone:
Arthur: *clapping his hands* Anyway, lets get this meeting started!
Merlin: *coming back from very publicly creating a massive storm to defeat some magical attack* Weird weather we're having right guys?
One of Uther's Loyalists: *literal steam coming out of his ears but too traditional to contradict a royal*
Merlin: *swans off, spell book in hand*
Let me know if you want more!

the way merthur goes from grumpy (arthur) x sunshine (merlin) in season one to grumpy (merlin) x sunshine (arthur) in season five is. sad.
idk, but arthur really seems to flourish with merlin at his side, seems to find happiness and self-worth and meaning. meanwhile merlin is being weighed down by the ever heavier weight of destiny, and the stress of knowing that somehow all of his actions are doing nothing against the inevitable fate of arthur, while still desperately trying to change it. whereas at the start of the series arthur was the spoilt, arrogant, secretly insecure bully and merlin was the beaming, carefree friend who was always there to try and help.
One of my favorite merthur scenes is Merlinās āI didnāt want you to feel that you were aloneā and itās so beautiful for so many reasons, but what I donāt see ever mentioned is the moments right after Arthur opens the doors. Merlin doesnāt look at Arthur or give any indication heās awake until he says Merlinās name.
I think itās so special because heās giving Arthur the choice of what he wants to do. He can leave Merlin there and be alone or he can āwake him upā and have a friend. He knows Arthur might not want to engage with anyone after an entire night spent with his deceased father. Itās a beautiful, understated act of consideration, love, and empathy.
I have a hc that Arthur just picks Merlin up like a sack of flour whenever and everyone just gets used to it. I mean not a soul mentioned Arthur dragging Merlin out of the throne room in The Witch Finder. I like to imagine that that's just how they are. Merlin starts to pick a fight in the market with a neighboring kingdoms knights? Arthur has an easy solution. Throw that servant over your shoulder and walk away. Is Merlin trying to join a fight with no weapons to protect himself? As soon as your open and the other knights can handle it grab him bridle style and haul ass. Works every time. When this first started Merlin would try and fight back and squirm away but it was no use so he just goes with it now.
These are the tiny moments I love. Itās the way Arthurās eyes donāt leave Merlin after he looks away. Not only do they not leave him, but you can literally see his eyes flick around Merlinās face.
Itās a moment just for Arthur. To observe and appreciate his friend up close. He even does a little gulp as heās taking in his side profile, his cheekbones, his chin. His Merlin.
Arthur loves Merlin. He was destined to.
During this sequence thatās supposed to feel victorious and like, āyeah things arenāt perfect, but the good guys won today!ā Merlin watches Guinevere and Arthur hug intimately and you know what? He looks sad.
He looks like he wishes he could touch Arthur so freely and affectionately. He looks like heās desperate to be seen for everything he is and everything heās done for him. He looks like heās accepting heāll never be with Arthur like that and itās breaking his heart.
That man is deeply in love and he canāt do anything about it. He is happy for them because he just wants them to be happy, but that doesnāt mean it doesnāt feel like a dagger in his heart.
It reminds me of that quote from Sherlock, āyou look sad when you think he canāt see youā
