i see a lot of posts by truscum/transmeds who say things like “we’re not aggressive or violent towards nondysphorics/mogais, they’re just confused and we’re just trying to help!”
which, well. why don’t you practice what you preach?
so, to every truscum/transmed, here are some ways you can help!
stop talking about brain sex. it’s been proved false.
stop telling everyone that you need dysphoria to be trans. you don’t. even the APA agrees with me. this is the dsm v’s criteria for gender dysphoria, and here’s a post explaining it. here’s another post about this.
stop saying that nondysphorics are “stealing Real™ trans resources.” it doesn’t work like that. also, instead of fighting over resources, why don’t we band together and fight for more resources…? it’s not like theres only so many surgeons in the world who have a finite amount of surgeries they can perform! maybe read these posts too?
maybe learn about nonbinary identities? or hey, even about xenogenders?
and while you’re at it, why don’t you read about how the idea of binary biological sex is wrong? oh sorry, you wanted some sources that aren’t from tumblr? why not bill nye?
here’s a big post about biological sex & gender identity.
stop hating on neopronouns. they’ve existed for a long, long time (i mean, even wikipedia will tell you this). language evolves. so should your understanding of it! (and yes, one of those links to an article about ‘failed’ pronouns - but the point isn’t that they didn’t catch on, it’s that they tried)
read through this ally page (from a blog focussing on binary trans, btw)
“transtrenders” aren’t medically transitioning and then regretting it. yes, sometimes someone thinks they’re trans and medically transitions and then later realises it was a mistake, but that’s very much not a common experience. a 2012 study says that only 3.8% of people regretted having some type of surgery, but this includes regret from bad & dodgy surgery, not just realising that this path wasn’t for them. this study cites regret rates from less than 1% up to 23%, but “the reported reasons for regret included adverse physical effects of surgery, loss of physical functioning, poor aesthetic result, failure to achieve desired effect, lack of support available before and after surgery, change in intimate relationship, psychological issues not recognized prior to surgery, and incongruence between patient preferences regarding decision involvement and their actual level of involvement.” no reported reasons were “i’m not actually trans.” this analysis from sweden studies cases from 1960-2010, and cites the regret rate as only 2.2%, with rates decreasing.
yes, this is a post that begins “articles to use against truscum” but i highly suggest actually reading through some of the linked articles & posts.
so just. stop? and think. thanks.
i’m sure theres a hundred other issues i didn’t address. but really, whether you’re dysphoric or not, binary or nonbinary, (medically) transitioning or not… we’re all transgender. we need to stop fighting amongst ourselves and band together to fight for each other. that’d be real nice.
- sincerely, your local dysphoric mogai.
