Actually thinking about the town I used to live in (rural college town, just hit 18k population this year, had farms and a good high school and the college and way too many churches and that's about it, economy was mostly kept afloat with meth) and even though it was considerably bigger than the town I'm currently on the outskirts of and had the college too, it was actually suuuuuuuuuper similar to Purpee. I hadn't made that connection and I don't really think it was intentional, considering every player at the table keeps treating Omaha like a small town despite its population of ~500k, but it does recontextualize Purpee because like. There are a lot of towns where they think college will revitalize the town and economy and what ends up happening instead is that the college thrives but the town continues to decay around it because none of the students are staying and the few local teens who can afford to go to college are going somewhere else because they want to get the fuck out of dodge and escape a dead town where there's a meth lab explosion every other week.

Purpee finally makes some sense to me.
