“Dawn, I don’t think you want strange men knocking at your window at 1 am. Lucky for you & your sister, I am not a man. Well, I’m not sure if vampire is any better. But —- nevermind.” Angel frowned, “Oh. Just tell her that I want to talk to her.”
“Strange guys? No.” She huffed and moved to throw herself back down on her bed, tired and now in an epically grumptastic mood, thanks to the Vampire. “But hot guys? Sure. I wouldn’t mind hot guys showing up at my window.” Pausing, she shrugged at him, “She has a phone, Angel.” As in, Dawn was not her human-esque answering machine.

“No, not it’s…” Spike moved quickly and caught her wrist, trying to keep her from doing more damage and managed to keep Dawn from hitting the ground as she passed out. “…Not. Oh, nibblet, why’d you let them take a bite out of you?”
He lifted Dawn up into his arms and took her to a nearby crypt to keep her out of sight of the demon she’d been fighting, and rested her head in his lap. He tore the bottom of his button down shirt to try and wrap a splint around her wrist.
“What--?” Dawn groaned a little while later, moving to rise up from the supine position she had been placed in. Hissing at the way her wrist bent unnaturally, Dawn cradled it against her chest and sat up fully with a frown on her face. Turning, she finally noticed Spike there and felt herself tilt towards him before she corrected and leaned back out of his personal space. “Spike?”

Oh. That... that wasn’t good. Glancing up through tunnel vision to the vampire now kneeling over her after disposing of the baddie, Dawn flopped her wrist in his direction. “I don’t think it’s supposed to bend that way, Spike.” She muttered before her vision closed in and she fainted.

It wasn’t as if Dawn wasn’t familiar with panic attacks. She was just... unfamiliar with just how panicky she felt during them. “Xan-Xander.” The call was connected, but there was no way to tell if it was his voicemail or if he’d just taken a second to greet her, “I can’t breathe.”

“I wouldn’t be too jealous if I were you - this place isn’t all fun and high-end fashion, trust me. & it really has been; the last time we saw each other I was probably still a cheerleader, and you were in middle school.”
It is a bit weird, now that she thinks about it: seeing Dawn, who had always just been Buffy’s little kid sister, all grown up. Especially since they’re both almost totally different people by now - the self-absorbed cheerleader is almost gone now, and if everything she’s heard is true, the gangly pre-teen she remembers technically never existed in the first place.
“I’m… alright. But what about you; how’s college treating you? Found any cute boys yet– - or girls?”
Ugh, the romantic conversation. It wasn’t as if she couldn’t get a date... it was just.... she was so picky. And potentially letting one of them in on the secret that she held? Hah! May as well commit social suicide by wearing Lady Gaga’s meat dress. “College is good.” Nice, easy subject -- totally neutral. “Classical Studies. I’m lookin’ to be the next Giles.” Pulling a face, she furrowed her eyebrow and one side of her lip curled up, “Though not as dorky. Or as many wrinkles.” Leaning forward, she rested her chin on the heel of her hand, eyebrows raising, “What about you? You always lead a more exciting life than us pions.” Yes -- deflection. Deflection was always good.
Spike glanced at the phone Dawn was clutching and sighed inwardly, noting how those devices were absorbing the current generation as much as they were with Buffy. He raised his brow at her as he tossed up his arms as if making some sort of grand entrance.
“The one and only, pet.” He responded, tugging at his jacket as he gave her a small smile.
“What’s got you out so late then? Some bloody hormonal boy, I reckon. Shouldn’t you be at home studying?” He asked, clearly not so well suited to the greetings.
He hadn’t changed a bit. Hair still so blond, it was almost white -- always reminded her of a ray of moonlight and seeing him after so many years of nothing, the old feelings were coming back. The easy way the weight left her shoulders and the way her walls immediately ceased to be there would always be indicative of just how comfortable, how safe she felt in the vampire’s presence. Even the little routine of flicking his cigarette away and pulling at the lapels of his jacket made it seem as though the past five years hadn’t even passed. She hadn’t even realized just how much she’d missed him until now. “A boy?” scoffing, she rolled her eyes and gave him a smirk that was borne of watching him snark on her sister, and had twisted and turned it into her own over the years, “Yeah, right. I was at a study session. I have a midterm in a couple of days and I wanted to brush up and make sure that I do my best on it.” she explained and stepped closer to him, suddenly feeling shy. Damn crush, the stupid hero worship, was still there, simmering. “Do you mind if ‘Lil Bit asks for a hug?”
Spike lit his cigarette slowly, inhaling the fumes until someone had bumped right into him.
And here he thought he was what went bump in the night.
However, it seemed that the individual who walked into him didn’t quite take into account that the two were acquainted. Either she was really out of it and not paying attention or this was some challenge state of mind ridden with teenage angst.
“That any way to greet a friend, Nibblet?” He called out, mocking a scoff back at her as he flicked the cigarette away.
After all, he doesn’t want to be a bad influence on her.
She’d been busy with her phone, making sure that she had picked up the correct notes from the study session she’d just come from to pay much attention to her surroundings. Not that a whole lot of supernatural big baddies were in her life since she’d been going to school. Buffy did what Buffy did best, and that was protecting Dawn. Feet stuttering in their stride, she blinked, wondering if she had just missed the vampire too much and was starting to hallucinate his voice coming out of random strangers’ mouths. “Spike?” she couldn’t help but call out before turning back around to face him.

Oh -- this was bad. Bad bad. Broken down car, no cell phone reception and Dawn wasn’t even in California. Who the hell would she call? Maybe hiking wasn’t such a great idea, she thought as she felt eyes following her as she walked back to the small town she’d blown past a half hour before. “Hello?” she called out to the woods, reaching into her jacket pocket for the compact knife she kept there.

“Excuse me -- walk much?” Dawn snapped at the body that had suddenly gone stock still in front of her on the sidewalk. Very nearly running into it, she sidestepped and sent a glare as she walked by, scoffing.

“That was your window … I was aiming for Buffy’s. Well, for me .. it’s some of the last hours of nightime that I can move around for.”
“Of course you’re looking for Buffy. Can I just have one time when someone knocks on my window at the witching hour because they want to see me?” Huffing after her rant, she stared at the vampire, “She’s out of the house, anyway. Is there a message I should pass along to her?”
He smirked. “These blokes know I’ll drink enough to more than compensate.” He eyed the drink in front of Dawn. “You an’ your mates have a designated, right, kitten?” His voice was very soft, almost brotherly.
“Oh yeah,” she flicked her hair over her shoulder, “I opted to stay,” shrugging, the joy in her smile turned bitter and she took a sip from her margarita. “I’ll call a cab, Spike. Stop worrying.”
“Sweetie…” Willow started, before emitting a small sigh, whatever argument she had planned to say instantly disappearing down her throat. In all honesty, she didn’t know if she could teach Dawn or not. When it came to computers, she hadn’t ever been the greatest at telling someone what to do. Showing, however, was a different story entirely. The issue here, however, was how Buffy would respond exactly to all of this. After the reaction her friend had had when she had brought Dawn a small magick book, she doubted teaching her the ways of hacking would go over much better.
“…does Buffy know about this?” She asked, already beginning to crack.
Scoffing at the witch, Dawn screwed up her face, “Buffy is busy with her beau of the month.” cue eye roll. Dawn’d had her crushes in the past, but nothing that ever reached Buffy’s levels of drama. “So, really, I doubt she’d care.” shrugging, she reached for a handful of popcorn that was nearby and crunched on it obnoxiously. Some old habits die hard. “Besides, I’m 18 now. If she wants to throw a fit, all she can do is tell me she’s ‘disappointed in my decision-making skills’.”
“…”
Why did his arrival anywhere always imply danger?
“…Yes.”
Okay, maybe it did, but pointing it out never helps.
“You know, trouble doesn’t always follow me.”
“And wait -- no, don’t tell me,” Dawn paused for dramatic effect, holding up a finger, “You’re here to make sure I’m not running out in the line of fire or setting up pipebombs or cans of boomer bile”
Shaking her head, she flopped herself down on the sofa and spread her hands out, “Happy to see I’m not rushing off to chase after this week’s evil?”
