my sweet kitty, ellis, is having surgery next month (12/14).

he was born with a cleft lip, and while he’s managed to get by okay enough, in the past few months he’s had a couple of sinus infections and developed severe asthma. he’s a year old, and will likely need to be on an inhaler twice a day for the rest of his life. these have both happened as a result of the large, open nostril that the cleft lip has caused.

the goal of this surgery is not to “fix” his appearance, it’s purely to make sure that he continues to be a healthy, happy kitty as he ages.

the good news is that since we live in boston, we’re lucky enough to be seeing the top veterinary reconstructive surgeon in the country. the bad news is that the surgery is projected to be very expensive (estimate below).
