The Wolves (Act I and II) - Bon Iver
When the Dead Come Knocking | Klaus and Melissa
“No, this has nothing to do with being bitter. Not in my case, at least.” It was obvious that a witch was the one who planned to come after Daniel, and a powerful one at that, but Klaus still didn’t know just who it was. Though he planned to find out. His relationship with Daniel had definitely become complicated over the past one thousand years of their lives, but they grew up together. Klaus loved him when he was human and he would always love him, as much as he hated that at times. It had the power to shape his actions, and as someone who was always desperate to keep control, he didn’t enjoy having that threat of instability.
Klaus crossed his arms over his chest and continued to look at Melissa. “Yes, Melissa, you. You’re going to be the one to do this for me.” He had a feeling that she knew there would be no getting out of this one. And if she didn’t, she would realize it soon enough. “I know that you can, sweetheart. I know exactly what you’re capable of.” He was more than confident in Melissa’s ability to properly to do the spell, and he also knew just how to provide her with the proper motivation if necessary. It was the same with everyone, find the people they loved most and you had them.
“Something like that.” Klaus’ expression never faltered. He knew exactly what he was asking for. In a thousand years he knew the difference between things you should do yourself and the ones that you could have taken care of by others. He practically considered keeping an eye on other people to be beneath him at this point. “I know exactly what I’m asking you to do, and you’re going to do it.” He uncrossed his arms and took a step toward her. “Save the flattery.” He gave her a wicked grin and took another step. “Now, let’s not waste any more time, shall we?”
"Of course not," she muttered sourly. Melissa wanted to step back as he got closer but she kept her place. She'd been at his side before, standing next to him as she did work for him. "Fine. I'll do it." She walked closer, staring him down. Klaus could kill her, hell, he probably would at some point. Melissa had betrayed him in spectacular fashion. No one had known exactly what she was up to except Clair and Matt, and even they weren't as clued in about her plans. She stopped in front of him and poked Klaus sharply in the chest. "But after this we are definitely done with each other. Got it? I don't want anything to do with you and you can find another witch to do your spells."
She knew that her threats and demands were pretty empty with him but she didn't want to be stuck as his servant and he had left her alone this last year, meaning he probably only came to her because she'd worked for him previously. Melissa took a deep breath and pushed past him, glancing over her shoulder impatiently. "Well, come on, I don't have all day." Melissa led him outside, looking up as the skies turned darker and the wind picked up.
This was going to be a big spell and she needed to be outside for it. Melissa stopped in the middle of the yard and looked around before taking a deep breath and holding her hands out. She stopped paying attention to Klaus and began to quietly perform her spell. Everything got even darker and the earth itself seemed to groan, cracking under the weight of her magic.
When the Dead Come Knocking | Klaus and Melissa
While the day of Klaus deciding to seek out Melissa had been a bit spontaneous, he had his plans for her thought out for a while, before the night he made sure Puck was bitten by a werewolf. With the lack of hybrids he now had, Klaus was a bit lacking in the amount of people he had at his disposal to do his work for him. Particularly now when he didn’t need anyone to really know what he was up to. He was in need of more bodies and he thought he knew just where to get them. And Melissa would be the one to get them for him. It was only fitting as she had been the one to kill them in an act of loyalty.
His hybrids had left Melissa downstairs in his living room when they brought her to him. There were of course other ways he could have reached out to the witch, but in his mind this was the easiest. He was upstairs in his room when he heard her stir and say Stefan’s name shortly afterward. He merely gave that a roll of his eyes and finished up with what he was doing before preparing to meet her back downstairs. “I believe the only order I gave was to bring you here.” Klaus smirked as he appeared in the doorway, leaning against it. “So no, I don’t.” He lingered there for a moment before going toward her.
“I assume you’re wondering why you’re here though.” He said as he reached her, standing just in front of her. “You’re going to do something for me. Something rather important.” He looked down at her. “As most of my hybrids were murdered and my doppelgänger is dead, I’m in need of a few more bodies. And you’re going to be the one to get them for me.” The smirk remained. “Tell me, have you ever raised the dead, love?”
Melissa rolled her eyes when she heard his voice, taking a drink from the glass in her hands. "I might be," she said coolly, not particularly trying to piss him off but also not really wanting to be around him. She and Klaus had a bit of history and reliving it wasn't something she really wanted to do. "Oh I am?" she asked, looking up at him with wide eyes as she took another drink. She frowned slightly when he mentioned the death of his hybrids and Elena. "So is this a bitter thing then? Is Daniel locked up in a closet somewhere too?"
A few more bodies? "Me? What? No. No." Melissa shook her head and quickly drained her glass. How the hell did she managed to get herself into this stuff? "Why do you need zombies and what makes you think I could even do something like that?" She probably could, with the amount of energy swirling around Mystic Falls right now, but she didn't want Klaus to know that. But then again, it seemed like it was too late for that anyway. She set the glass down and walked away from the cabinet, trying to put some space in between them.
"So, let me get this straight," she said. "You want me to perform a spell that will bring back some dead people just so you have a handful of minions?" Melissa scoffed but she soon got quiet. She knew a spell, and it would bring back anyone she had killed. She felt queasy and shook her head. "I don't think you understand what you're asking me to do. That's... it would upset the balance of nature. You can't mess with life and death like that." She turned to face him and one look at him told her that she was going to have to do this. Klaus would kill her father, kill Clair and Quinn and anyone else she cared about. "You're such a monster," she said quietly, staring at him.
When the Dead Come Knocking | Klaus and Melissa
Melissa groaned softly and sat up on the floor of a warmly lit room that she thought she recognized but couldn't quite place. She rubbed her head, watching two figures retreat, a male and a female. Hybrids, she assumed, as she slowly realized by the paintings that she was back in the Mikaelson's home. She pushed up into a sitting position before finally getting to her feet. "Stefan?" she asked, wondering if he was somewhere here too. She had only been out to grab a coffee but now here she was, back somewhere very familiar and she knew something bad was going to happen today.
"Alright Klaus," she called, dusting herself off. The hybrid definitely scared her but she'd also spent enough time with him to manage a calm level of back talking. "I'm here, what do you want this time?" Melissa's heels clacked against the wood floor as she walked through the house and she frowned. She really hoped that she wasn't going to have to find him herself. And about two seconds after thinking that she decided she wasn't going to look for Klaus, and instead she walked over to the liquor cabinet in the corner of the room.
"P.S., if you're going to kidnap girls off the street," she continued, pouring herself a glass of bourbon, "then you might want to be more subtle about it. The Wonder Twins snagged from in front of Java Brew. But of course you don't care about that," she sighed, shaking her head. Today was supposed to be a simple day. Grab some coffee, see if Clair was knocked up, maybe have a couple of drinks. But instead here she was, waiting on Klaus. Her life was so fucked up.

Mike: You're holding me in suspense!
Mike: Thanks, Melissa.
Melissa: It's what I do best!
Melissa: Anytime, Mike.
mike + melissa \\ catch up
Mike: That makes two people in town happy for us. You and Daniel should start a club. And then wait for it to get criticized and disband it.
Mike: Sorry. I'm just...disappointed.
Mike: Explosions? Do tell.
Melissa: Hey, don't... don't worry about it, alright? As long as you're happy, that's what matters. If I had listened to people about Stefan, I wouldn't be as happy as I am with him right now.
Melissa: And I don't know what Gwen did, and I don't care. I've messed up too so this is a judgement free zone.
Melissa: You're gonna have to wait to hear about them.
mike + melissa \\ catch up
Mike: I've been okay. Traveling and stuff. Think Kerouac.
Mike: Long story short until we do hang out--I didn't really notice how much I liked her until it was happening. And then I stopped being stupid and oblivious and asked her out.
Mike: What have you been up to since we last saw each other? I hope you've got a year of stories to tell me!
Melissa: Fun! And awww I'm happy for you guys. I expect the full details at our dance off.
Melissa: I have been in school but I totally have stories for you. Some involve explosions.
mike + melissa \\ catch up
Mike: Yes, definitely!
Mike: I missed you too.
Melissa: Good. Like you said, you still owe me a dance off and it's been way too long.
Melissa: I hope you've been good! And when were you gonna tell me about you and Gwen!
“I got lots of jealous lovers that all wish they had me back Got a pistol for a mouth, my old mama gave me that Making my own road out of gravel and some wine And if I have to fall, then it won’t be in your line…”
mike + melissa \\ catch up
Melissa: Pssst.
Melissa: You do! I'm collecting soon, Chang.
Mike: Cool!
Mike: How are you, Mel? We haven't talked in awhile.
Melissa: I'm great! I know, it's been way too long. I've missed you!
Melissa: We should hang out soon and we'll catch up.
Texts ⇄ Sam and Melissa
Sam: Yeah, yeah. I love you too.
Sam: Well good. If you can make it through the rough stuff it'll only make you stronger in the end.
Sam: Why is knocking people out always your go to? Should I be worried?
Melissa: When did we become such saps?
Melissa: ....I learned it from Clair??????
Texts ⇄ Sam and Melissa
Sam: After basically living with you for I've learned to assume 99% of the time you're teasing me. Except when we're talking about comics, but even then it's debatable.
Sam: Good! I'm glad things are working out for you guys.
Sam: We'll have to see if we can get Clair into one too.
Melissa: It's only because I love you.
Melissa: Thanks! A year or so ago it was looking rough but I think we've worked through some things.
Melissa: Well you knock her out and I'll get her into it and then we'll get to the theater.
Texts ⇄ Clair and Melissa
Melissa: Werewolf Barbie. Tomorrow is good. I'll bring food or something.
Clair: ...You really are the wicked bitch of the west.
Clair: Food is good, well if I can keep it down.
Melissa: Bow down, bitches.
Melissa: Alright, I'll see you then.
Texts ⇄ Sam and Melissa
Sam: Got it no more wearing my hats like a tool.
Sam: How's that going anyway?
Sam: Deal.
Melissa: I hope you know I've just been picking on you this whole time.
Melissa: It's going really good! I'm glad he finally showed up in town.
Melissa: Deal.
Texts ⇄ Clair and Melissa
Melissa: Thanks, Barbie. Let me know when you want to get together and pee on sticks.
Clair: Hold up there, Elphaba. Quinn is barbie, not me. How about tomorrow? The sooner I get this shit out of the way, the better.
Melissa: Werewolf Barbie. Tomorrow is good. I'll bring food or something.
Texts ⇄ Clair and Melissa
Melissa: As long as it's not something unimaginative like "Sabrina, the Teenage Bitch" I'm probably cool with it.
Clair: I'm saving that for later, Willow. So many nicknames, so little time.
Melissa: Thanks, Barbie. Let me know when you want to get together and pee on sticks.
