Just wanted to bring to your attention that the term whump was actually coined by the Stargate fandom specifically to describe making this guy suffer. He is the original Mr. Whump (no that's not his actual name). That's how torturable this guy is.

I need people to understand that the “No” should be much, much higher. 50% of children used to die before the age of 15, and we just went thru an airborne global pandemic. Everybody say “thank you” to vaccines and antibiotics, without which probably 75% of us would be dead.

I do also want to gently take people by the hand when they say stuff like, "I shouldn't be alive" in the tags. Because...yes, you should. That's the beautiful part about being human: we evolved as a social species to take care of one another and modern medicine is a continuation of that evolutionary instinct. There are bones from the cave days that show care and attention were shown to even the most wounded and sickly among us.

From the very beginning of our species, we have been wrestling each other from the jaws of death. You should be alive. We have fought for you to be alive! We will continue to fistfight death for you! We will invent better and better medicine to help the disabled and the chronically sick! This has always been what set our species apart, this determined march against preventable death, and we will march on.
