Development blog of a future Virtual Pet RPG, Mythaura. A web-based browser game where you can own mythological beasts, breed them, battle them and more. Follow this blog to join us in every step of development and for news as it comes!
We're rolling into the last month of the first half of the year with great momentum behind us. We've got the final artwork for our Spring Ko-fi Rewards, two new pieces of gear that drop from combat encounters in the Waspwood Forest and Hypogean Expanse, a sunny array of yellows to add to the color wheel, and more!
Ko-fi Spring 2026 Rewards
Glamour: Jonquil & Daffodil
Companion: Gilded Chimefish
Solid Gold Glamour: Baby Hippogriff
Jaq's Emporium: Exterior
Jaq is an enterprising Basilisk who has made the... rather contentious decision to open up a large emporium in Talon's Rest, adorned with his family's crest and held aloft by two intricately-carved Amaru figures.
This building serves as the in-game way to access user shops, which can also be accessed directly from the user's menu. But if you ever want to drop by and pay a visit to Jaq--or to Drifter Kri, the Weekend Traveler, on Saturdays and Sundays--he's only too happy to have you!
Gear: Aura Reaper Scythe
The Aura Reaper haunts the caverns of the Hypogean Expanse, feeding on whatever reserves of Aura it can find. Adventurers who defeat them in combat can sometimes salvage their scythe after the battle, still wrapped in tendrils of purple smoke.
Gear: Leafscale Flail
Be careful when passing by bushes in the Waspwood Forest: you never know if a Leafscale Ambusher lies in wait, hidden just out of view. Some lucky adventurers will be rewarded with a Leafscale Flail after a battle, fashioned from the pinecones at the end of the Ambusher's tail.
Overworld Assets: Barrels
A staple for traders and merchants all across Mythaura. These ones found in Talon's Rest are filled with some local staples: corn, apples, and bluefin minnows.
Overworld Assets: Plushes
Three squishy plushes will be found throughout the overworld, treasured by beasts of all ages. These feature both the regular and radiant versions of three companions commonly found in Talon's Rest: the Corgbee, Domestic Capragora, and Breezetail.
Tile Update: Waspwood Forest
As we honed in on our art direction, we realized that there were assets that were previously done that would have to be updated to match the new style. We've reworked several overworld assets and tile sets, and this month we completed the rework for the Waspwood Forest floor tiles!
New Colors: Limoncello, Banana, Wheat
Over the course of 2026, we will be adding 24 colors to the Mythaura color wheel.
This month, we've got three new colors: Limoncello, Banana, and Wheat! All three colors are now available in the beast creator for people to play around with.

Thank You!
Thanks for sticking through to the end of the post, we always look forward to sharing our month's work with all of you--thank you for taking the time to read. We'll see you around the Discord.
We hope you enjoy dressing up your beasts, because this month brings another large batch of apparel and gear pieces for your beasts! We've also got some beautiful painted backgrounds for Wind's End and the Hivepack Caves, the winners of the Ko-fi Winter Quarter rewards, shop signage for the businesses of Talon's Rest, and two fun yellow colors for you!
Wind's End Skybox
For the city of Talon's Rest, we are making use of a skybox in order to introduce a sense of depth to the world. This is a static image that is placed in the distance and locked to the player's camera--the skybox image "moves" as the player moves.
Since Talon's Rest sits at the top of a high cliff, you will get a scenic vista of the northern half of Wind's End: Lake Lacrima, the cratered remains of Pinereach, the ancient city of Crowcroft and the home of the Blackroost drift overlooking it, the festive booths and tents of Toll Town, seated at the foot of the mountain leading up to the Arena.
As the day progresses, the skybox will shift from daytime, dusk/dawn, and nighttime colorations. Mythaura goes through a full day-night cycle every 12 hours--what time of day are you most excited to see this view of Wind's End in?
Yarrow Staff
In Wind's End, the yarrow flower is inextricably connected to the Battle of Yarrow Fields, the campaign that brought the Long War to an end after a century of conflict. Local sorcerers have managed to grow large yarrow plants, which are in turn imbued with potent magic and fashioned into staves.
They come in eight varieties:
Blue
Gold
Light Pink
Orange
Pink
Red
White
Yellow
Worn & Rusted Scythes
The primary industry in Wind's End is agriculture, and one of the most useful tools for this line of work is the scythe--a humble tool and, when in the right hands, an effective weapon.
At the Harvest's End stall, you will be able to purchase these pieces of gear for your own use in combat:
Worn Scythe
Rusted Scythe
We might have some other scythe variants in the works already. Ones that might have more of a magical bend to them... 🤔
Shoulder Satchels
These babies are on the go! These shoulder satchels come in seven varieties:
Black leather
Brown leather
Orange leather
Blue floral
Green floral
Red floral
Yellow floral
Chicken Cuddles
These chickens are perfectly comfy-dozy, all cuddled up next to their baby beast friends.
These cuddle buddies come in five varieties:
Black
Cream
Red
Striped
White
Hungry Hens
Watch your step! These hens are eyeing those feed bags that you're holding, and I don't think they're going to leave you be until you give them some.
And five varieties of hens:
Black
Cream
Red
Striped
White
Hiveden Combat Background
Deep within the Waspwood Forest lies the Hivepack Caves, filled by a hivepack of Wolfwasp Drones and presided over by their Wolfwasp Queen. This is the background that will display when in combat in the Hivepack Caves; your party will be on the left, and the creatures you're fighting will be on the right.
The caves are dark and deep, filled with twisting paths and dead ends and territorial Wolfwasps. We advise an abundance of caution and preparedness before taking on this Wild Area.
New Color: Cockatiel and Cockatoo
Over the course of 2026, we will be adding 24 colors to the Mythaura color wheel.
This month, we've got two new colors: Cockatiel and Cockatoo! Both colors that are now available in the beast creator for people to play around with.
Shop Signage
Talon's Rest is home to four primary businesses, who are established enough to have their own standalone buildings. They vend their product from windows on the first floor of their homes.
Madame Corgbee's: the only seller of Corgbees in all of Wind's End. She's quite proud of that fact.
Loose Threads: Run by the town tailor, an unassuming Hippogriff.
The Fool's Journey: Shae sells all the gear and provisions that a fledgling adventurer could possibly need.
The Inkwell: Is your beast looking to update their look? Change their colors by purchasing Ephemeral Inks here!
Spring 2026 Ko-fi Winners
Thank you to all the Ko-fi sponsors who voted for the Spring Quarter 2026 rewards. Next month we will show the finalized artwork for the Gilded Chimefish Companion and the Jonquil & Daffodil Glamour. Stay tuned!

Jinglebell Apparel
Beast parents have found that not only are jingle bells extremely cute, but they are also quite handy when you've got young beasts who like to scamper off to places they're not supposed to be.
The bells come in two varieties: gold and silver. The collar and tail bell are separate pieces, and can be mixed and matched however you'd like.
Glamour Scroll Art Update
Glamours are cosmetic skins that can be applied on top of a beast.
In the time since we initially created glamours, we've added expressions for every beast, which show up in dialogue and other instances around the game. To that end, we decided to give glamour artists the ability to create Deluxe Glamours, which include the glamour for the beast base as well as for all four expressions.
To reflect this change, we needed to update our glamour scroll visuals! We decided to use elements of the Celestial Ocelot, since it's an Arcane-element creature, and the Arcane element deals in glamour magic and illusions. The Standard Glamour is pictured on the left, and takes from the colors of the basic Celestial Ocelot. The Deluxe Glamour is pictured on the right, and takes from the colors of the radiant Celestial Ocelot.
Healer Starter Gear Preview
We've completed all the starter gear for Fighters, Rogues, and Sorcerers, leaving us with only the Healer set to finish up! We decided to go a more naturalist/herbalist route for the Healer, and you can see that they're kitted out with all sorts of accessories to craft remedies out in the world.
Barded Warlion Companion
The valorous Barded Warlion is an Arena-exclusive companion. Will you brave combat in order to tame one of these creatures?
Winged Wormtongue Companion
It's big, it's fluffy, and it will fly away with your food if you aren't paying attention.
New Beast Concpets
We really debated whether or not to share these with you all, but......................... the team's just too excited, and we felt like these needed to be shared with the world.
So, presenting: our WIP concepts for future beast species!! We can't share too much more information on them here, but wanted to offer you a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating a new beast species. Of course, there's a lot of work that still needs to be done with these, but who knows--someday in the future, you may very well see one of these beasts added to the site!!

No AI Policy
There has been a lot of news recently about the usage of generative AI in video game production. There's understandably a lot of fear and uncertainty surrounding this topic, and we completely understand why many people are feeling uncertain, apprehensive, and even angry about it.
We on the Mythaura team do not condone the usage of AI in any aspect of the creative process with art, writing, or music, have never used AI in the creation of any of these assets, and have updated our contracts to enshrine this stance. It does not have a place in our work, nor will it ever.
We want Mythaura to be a place where people can enjoy the game and not have to worry about whether or not AI was used in any part of it. Our artists and writers were hired for their talent, creativity, and passion; to use AI in their place at any point in the process would completely defeat the purpose of making this art to begin with.
We hope that this can be a small reassurance as we all navigate these changes in the industry.
New Mutation: Voidling
We have released our third and final mutation that will be available at launch: Voidling, which inverts the beast's colors that it's born with.
As a reminder, beasts have an extremely rare chance to be born with a mutation, which include Voidling, Celestial, and Piebald. All three are available in the beast creator, so you're able to play around with all three of them starting today!
New Apparel: Pyrohooves & Pyrohoof Antlers
The Pyrohoof Buck is one of the enemies that can be encountered in the Waspwood Forest, one of the Wild Areas that will be available at launch. We've been on a roll with designing the apparel that's unique to this area, and Sashie did some incredible Pyrohoof antlers and hooves for us.
We don't have any blue Pyrohooves in the Waspwood Forest, but we do have these blue fire antlers and hooves that will be available for purchase from an NPC in Talon's Rest. I wonder where those are imported from... 🤔
New Apparel Mannequins
Previously, when making an item icon for gear/apparel, we'd decide whether or not we wanted the apparel to show up on its own (i.e. a necklace floating in a vacuum) or on a beast as it would appear when that specific beast wore it.
If there were multiple varieties within a single piece of gear or apparel--like our cat whiskers from this past update--the species model would usually stay the same (in our instance: an adult dragon), but the color of the dragon would change to better show off the whisker's unique color. We ended up with a white dragon with black whiskers, a red dragon with white whiskers, and a purple dragon with gray whiskers.
At a glance, our inventory had a level of variety that was distracting. It took the focus away from the apparel and put it instead on the beast in the item icon, which is not what players are meant to pick up at a glance when viewing your inventory menu. It was further muddied by some item icons featuring beasts, while others were just a context-less item.

Thanks for sticking through to the end of the post, we always look forward to sharing our month's work with all of you--thank you for taking the time to read. We'll see you around the Discord.
Lots of writing underway for Talon's Rest and the other areas in Chapter 1, and a TON of art that's in progress--and a TON that has been completed, as well! Likewise we've had a productive month on the programming side of things as well, with Koa and Sark finishing up tasks like what happens when you faint while in a wild area, support for battle and overworld items, and functionality for Treasure Imps, which are the main subject for today's update!
Treasure Imps
Occasionally while traveling through a Wild Area, an elite enemy may spawn in--powerful foes that have extra health and deal extra damage, but drop more valuable loot. On rare occasions, a Treasure Imp may spawn in instead.
These mischievous creatures carry satchels full of valuable loot, which it will drop upon defeat. Defeating them is no small task, though: while they may not be especially powerful, Treasure Imps are fast. They run faster than your beast is able to sprint, meaning that you'll have to use an item to increase your mobility (like a Godspeed Potion) or sneak up on it by crouching.
You'll be amply rewarded if you do catch one, though: Treasure Imps drop much better loot than your average elite enemy. With patience and preparedness, players will have a better chance at intercepting these tricky little creatures.
Treasure Imps are also companions, meaning they can potentially be tamed at the end of an encounter. They can also be radiant: the rose gold Imp featured here is our radiant version!
Intro Quest Teaser
While we can't share the assets themselves, we wanted to share some silhouettes with you, just to give you a small taste of what you can expect at the beginning of your adventure through the world. What mysteries await you in these hypogean depths?

While we wait for Mythaura’s beta, Maggotjuicebox and I have decided to do a creativity challenge for fun, and to help us brainstorm lore and art for our future beasts! We thought it could be a neat community event too, hence this post.
The Mythaura Musings Challenge will take place from September 1st to January 31st. Each month will have one central theme, and there will be 4-5 prompts per month (so one prompt/submission per week). Please see the following calendar (made by Mags!) for the theme prompts, with further details below.
If you would like to join, you can share your creations on Tumblr with the tag #Mythaura Musings Challenge, or on Mythaura's official discord in the Mythaura Musings Challenge #community-events thread. Mags will also be awarding art badges for those who participate (see below). Using the prompts, we hope to encourage us as a community to explore and share our personal lore plans with each other!
Rules for Participation:
1. Please follow Mythaura’s official content rules for all submissions. An overview of their rules can be found in their discord's rules channel.
2. All submissions must be your own work (excluding beast creator images).
3. No AI generated content allowed.
4. For written submissions, there is no minimum or maximum word limit, this is mainly for fun! It is a “challenge” in the sense that we hope the prompts help you to develop future lore and art for your beasts and abode once the site launches.
5. Art submissions can be in any form: traditional, digital, photography, crocheting, mixed media, baking/food, etc, whatever you’d like!
Mags and I look forward to reading and seeing what y’all share!

Badges! (by Mags)
Each month you will have the opportunity to earn two different badges, a normal one (blue ink bottle) and a shiny one (gold ink bottle). The normal badge is earned by completing one prompt, and the shiny by completing all prompts of the month.
Hello folks! Another super busy month over here for Team Mythaura. This month much of our time and energy was spent developing content for Talon's Rest, the town that players will spend a majority of their time in during Chapter 1, which is the content that will be available at launch. We have the templates for all building sizes complete, which means moving on to the interior items as well as the exteriors for important locations, like the Shattered Shield Tavern and Beau's ancient underground Cipher Pedestal room.
Story things were simplified in a really major way this month as well. We're trying to build the story in such a way that it will be conducive both to players whle the content is being released as well as for full playthroughs after all the content for the continent is fully released. From the writing end, I've spent a good amount of time establishing the Followers that the player can optionally travel with. We're excited for you to be able to take them along on your journeys throughout Mythaura.
Community Events & Event Coordinators
This month, the team was approached by two Discord community members who wanted to run a creative prompts event for the community. They had assets created and a schedule prepared, and were looking for permission to post to the Discord server. This was such a fun idea that we decided to create a new role in our Discord server: Event Coordinator, who are community members who can run formally approved Mythaura Community Events.
Are you hosting a themed art event? How about a Beast Creator design contest of your own, or a storytelling competition? Whatever it is that you're looking to run, we'd love to shine a spotlight on your efforts and highlight our creative community! We've created a badge featuring the friendly face of Pollis's pet bird, Sencha, which can be added to your posts and assets for the event.
Event Organizers will have permission to make forum posts for their events, create events in the server, and the ability to ping our new opt-in server role: @Event Participant.
If you'd like to keep up to date on Community Events, you can give yourself the Event Participant role in the #manage-roles channel in our Discord. If you'd like to run a Community Event, please read on.
Community Event Application
All Community Events will be coordinated with me, Miyazaki; please reach out to me on Discord directly. Please have at least some information about the following prepared--just enough to give a general idea, we'll hash out the details in a dedicated forum post if approved!
Overview of event
Participation rules for event
Any rewards that may be granted, and how they are distributed
Duration of event
Intended date(s) of event
Support requested of dev team
Where the events are intended to be posted, if in addition to Discord
Community Event Rules
We do not anticipate running into many issues with these events. Generally speaking: as long as your event is inclusive and considerate, it will be approved. But a few rules, for formality's sake:
The event cannot contain barriers to entry. Any and all community members must be able to participate if they choose.
Only formally approved Mythaura Community Events may use the Community Events badge.
All initial content (i.e. introductory posts, participation rules; prize overview if applicable) must be approved beforehand. Subsequent replies and event management will be the sole responsibility of the Event Coordinator(s)
Event Coordinators may ping the @Event Participant role to update them on the status of events.
No cash or Mythaura currency may be awarded to participants.
Your event must also adhere to Mythaura's community rules. The event may not:
harass or abuse other community members.
contain racist, sexist, sexually explicit or otherwise offensive content.
contain political and religious content.
contain links or have discussion around illegal content.
contain personal or confidential information about another community member or yourself.
contain spam, flood, or promote NFTs, MLMs, or other money-making programs.
harass members of the community for game codes or in-game items.
post comments to troll and cause unrest.
share content from sensitive topics such as self-harm, drug use, descriptions of dead or injured animals or people, etc.

FAQ
Do I need to have Mythaura's approval to host some sort of community event?
No. Players are free to make forum games and other events without any involvement from the dev team.
Mythaura Community Events are intended to give visibility to projects via our official social media channels, and to recognize players choosing to volunteer their time in order to provide something fun for the community to participate in.
Do I have to have the @Event Participant role on Discord to participate in Community Events?
No. The role is just another way for those who want to stay informed about Community Events!
What permissions do Event Coordinators have in the Discord?
Event Coordinators have the ability to post to a private Discord forum, where they can coordinate and review with the dev team. They can also create forum posts for their Community Events, and schedule server events.
Event Coordinators are allowed to ping the Event Participants role to alert them to new and upcoming Community Events.
Are Event Coordinators part of the dev team?
No. While we recognize and appreciate these community members and want to give their projects as much visibility as possible, Event Coordinators are not part of the official dev team.
What role does the dev team play in Community Events?
The dev team will review the planned content with the Event Coordinator(s) hosting the event. Once approved, the dev team will post about it in development updates and re-share (NOT re-post) it where it is posted on social media, where possible.
In the review process, the dev team will also offer case-by-case support the Event Coordinator(s) as best we can.
Wind's End Map Reveal
Koa completed the map for the Wind's End region! The style was inspired by fantasy maps, especially those for TTRPGs--this is not a precise rendition of the map, but instead showcases the important locations of Wind's End with symbolic representations.
Below is some brief information on these key locations.
Chapter 1
Talon's Rest
The first town that the player will explore upon beginning their adventure in Mythaura, situated atop a cliff overlooking Lake Kali to the north and the rolling farmland of Wind's End to the east. Its founding marked the end of more than a century of conflict.
Waspwood Forest
A dense coniferous forest, named for the hivepacks of Wolfwasps that claim it as their territory. A proving ground for adventurers new and old.
The Arena
The forum for all organized battles, commissioned by Atticus the Reformer to provide a controlled environment in which beasts could work through their hostilities. The Arena is home to both PVE and PVP combat.
Pinereach
A violent divot marks where the mining outpost of Pinereach once stood, now reduced to a crater smoldering with ash and rubble.
Chapter 2
Tollhouse & Toll Town
The Arena attracts visitors from all across the continent, and the tollhouse collects a processing fee from each. "Toll Town" fans out from its gates, a motley market of vendor stalls, inns, and restaurants, each happy to relieve weary travelers of their troubles and their gold.
Crowcroft
Crowcroft is "the Gate of the North," and the oldest and largest settlement in Wind's End. It's the ancestral home to the historically reclusive Blackroost Drift, who preside over the town and their vinyard from atop their high hill.
The Bramblewood
A sprawling forest, spanning everything from Crowcroft in the north part to Brineberry in the south, and everything east of the Arena. It is filled with caneberry bushes, which the Blackroosts use in their fruit wines and meads.
Brineberry
A fishing village on Wind's End's southeast coast, shrouded by the Bramblewood. Due to its remote location, many of its residents make daily treks to the markets of Talon's Rest and Toll Town in order to sell their wares.
Eldrithian Ruins
Remarkably well-preserved Eldrithian ruins, maintained by the nearby town of Brineberry. The climb to the top is precarious, but the commanding view of the ocean is worth the hike.
Field of the Fallen
The site of the climactic, war-ending battle. Atticus ordered that the weapons of those who fell in battle to be left untouched, a permanent reminder of the destruction caused by the Long War. It is extremely taboo to even touch the battlefield remnants, but that doesn't deter particularly enterprising scavengers.
Functionality started for special-adding items and special-removing items
Functionally completed battle items
Cipher features in-progress and assets created
Errand bulletin board in-progress and assets created
Enemy behaviors and detection radius modifiers for sneaking, rogues, and items
Movement speed, number of jumps, and sneak speed modifier items wired up
Torch item illumination wired up
Location based music and ambient sound effects wired up
Fixed multiple issues when traveling between locations
Finished player breeding requests UI
Added proximity trigger for events with radius, like showing a cutscene when you get close
Added camera controls to tiles, allows camera control based on players position
Fixed issues NPC tooltip positioning
Refactored followers to fix scenarios where followers get stuck
Added follower fallback teleportation to catch up
Follower performance greatly improved
Redid minimap to use terrain textures instead of solid colors
Fog-of-war minimap effect that only reveals what you’ve explored so far (in-progress)
World map pan and zoom adjustments for Wind’s End
Added terrain texture chunking and canvas stitching to improve performance
Performance improvements in the map editor and while playing (instance meshes and slow execute fixes)
Lots of Misc. map editor fixes

Please be sure to include your availability and rate. We also hit a big writing milestone: our intro quest script is complete! This allows us to move onto populating our (new and improved) Talon's Rest with NPCs and quests. This was a big one for us and a huge learning curve, and we've got a lot of learnings taken from this to apply to all our work going forward.
August is going to be another busy and productive month. Read on if you'd like an update on what we got up to during the month of July!
Elevation Rework
Originally Mythaura’s world was designed to be completely flat. A year or so ago we decided to add basic voxel elevation (cube based - similar to Minecraft) - this brought about a number of issues we had to sort out, but also a whole new dimension to our level design and world building. We could now place the player in a high up position to overlook an area they are about to embark into. We could place the player deep in a cave with descending pathways taking them deeper into the abyss. Today, we are showing off a completely reworked elevation system that takes things to the next level.
Specifically instead of using a voxel/cube based system, each tile has its own elevation, and a terrain map is generated using tessellation and normalization of vertexes to smoothly blend the landscape. This allows for full control over the terrain and enables smooth transitions between elevation without the need to manually place down ramps or rely on blocky cubes (which was or previous solution!). This upgrade is still underway and we are working on rebuilding our existing maps to utilize this tech. Check out the above screenshot for a before and after!
Game Dialog Technical Overview
It all starts with the Mythaura query engine - a core tenant of Mythaura’s Dialogs, Quests, Events, Bosses, and Cutscenes. It’s basically a generic if-this-then-that engine that can determine everything from: should a player see a hidden dialog option? Or can a player turn in a given quest? This allows us to adjust gameplay and the narrative based on decisions you’ve made in the past, or the time of day, or if your playing as a certain species, or if your carrying a certain item, etc. this list of possibilities is seemingly limitless with such an open-ended conditional tool!
Breeding UI
Breeding takes place in nurseries, you’ll have the option to unlock up to 16 separate nurseries to simultaneously breed many beasts. Each pairing can be between your own beasts or any other player’s beasts - as long as you are willing to pay the other player their going rate.
Breeding pairs can also utilize up to 4 breeding items (everything from items that adjust color outcomes, to items that adjust elements). You can preview predictions to get an idea of what the offspring might look like. When your new offspring are ready to be delivered you can watch them hatch! Maybe you’ll get twins!
Custom Glamours UI
You can create and sell extra copies of your skins to re-coup costs or even make bank off your cool designs! A player driven glamour market shows off the top community contributions - maybe one of your designs will go viral! Checkout the UI mockup!
Step 1: Instructions
Step 2: Glamour Details
Step 3: Upload
Step 4: Preview & Submit
This is a mockup for visual testing purposes only. Glamours shown here are placeholders and not representative of final store offerings. Background colors are for layout experimentation and are for visual testing only at this time.

Hi folks! It's fully summertime here in the northern hemisphere; hopefully everyone is staying safe and cool!
Level design is a hugely important part of our game development process, and Sark custom-built us a tool that allows us to make layered and complex levels in a relatively short amount of time. Level design dictates pretty much everything else that follows--objects being placed in the world, NPCs in the overworld (and, consequently, dialogue for them), boss fights, loot placement... all of this, and so much more.
This video offers a brief glimpse into some of the thought process behind why we're designing levels the way were are, and a demonstration of the design tool itself.
We hope you enjoy the video, and if you're interested in hearing about other elements of game design, please let us know and we'll see what we can do!
Level Design Walkthrough
This month, we wanted to record a video demonstrating some of the work we're doing behind the scenes to actually move the game toward a playable state. Sark built an amazing level design tool, and the video will take you on a quick tour of its features and capabilities. It'll also show off some of the amazing assets that our art team has made.

Content development for what we'll have available at launch is well underway, utilizing all the tools that Koa and Sark have built for us—like a dialogue creator that powers all of our questlines and a map builder that's allowing us to build 2.5D levels for your characters to explore. It's full steam ahead for our team as we continue to prepare for Closed Beta next year.
Sark has built a fishing minigame for Mythaura, which we will explore in this update. We also have the results for the Spring Quarter Ko-fi Rewards, and would like to remind everyone interested in winning some Radiant Wolfwasps for their journey through Mythaura to enter our Wolfwasp Giveaway on Instagram by 11:59 AM on May 31!
Fishing
Mythaura is filled with all manner of bodies of water—lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans. In addition to being able to traverse water by swimming, Sark has created a way for players to explore them in another dynamic way: fishing.
The fishing minigame will be available at launch, with some post-launch additions planned as well.
Mechanics
After acquiring a fishing pole from the Grinning Gar, players will be able to fish along any body of water.
Players will have to keep their lure close to the fish in order to reel it in. The higher the rarity of the fish, the more difficult it will be to reel them in.
Rarer fish yield better effects when consumed and have a higher sales value with in-game vendors.
Fishing Rewards
Fishing does not exclusively yield consumables—there's also the chance to fish up certain Companions as well!
Pictured above are just some of the creatures that you can fish up from the rivers and streams around Talon's Rest.
The Grinning Gar
"Mind your fingers around the Ottergrebe. He's insatiable."
The Grinning Gar is an adventurer's destination for all things fishing-related. Its proprietor, Captain Hawthorne, is always quick with a recommendation and quicker yet with a fantastic tale about the epic battles he has waged with the fish in Lake Lacrima.
The shop was designed by our own lovely Sourdeer and Hawthorne's design was pulled from one of the NPC Design Contest that we held. Thank you for the design submission, Satyrn! 🎣✨

Hello folks! Is this year seriously 1/4 of the way over with already? It feels like it was just yesterday that we were getting ready to make our New Year's post summarizing everything we took care of in 2024...
But nope, it's April 1 and we promise you our update is no joke: we've got some lore about the Wolfwasp family of creatures, contest winners, and new Ko-fi reward concepts, so read on for more information!
Wolfwasps
Wolfwasps are among the earliest and fiercest enemies you will encounter in your journeys through the Wild Areas around Talon's Rest.
Biology
The "stinger" on the end on a Wolfwasp's tail is not actually a stinger, but rather a talon. With their long and flexible tails, Wolfwasps use the hooked talon on the end to gouge at prey—including other Wolfwasps, if the situation arises.
Wolfwasps have a wide and varied diet. They are primarily carnivores, who both actively hunt as well as scavenge carcasses. When they are pressed for sources of meat, they are also known to eat fruit and insects.
The average lifespan of Wolfwasp Warriors and Drones is 2-4 years. Queens reign over their hivepacks for 10-15 years, but there are instances of particularly resilient individuals living close to 30 years. The average age of Kings is harder to determine due to the nature of their role in the Wolfwasp life cycle, but it's rare for one to live past the age of 10.
Social Structure
Wolfwasp families are called "hivepacks." These hivepacks are overseen by a Queen, who commands the Worker Drones and Warrior Drones within the ranks—all of whom are her daughters.
The Queen is the only member of the hivepack to mate, and produces all-female litters of Warrior and Worker Drones. Wolfwasp pups gestate inside of royal jelly-filled hives that line the walls of their caves. It takes approximately a month for a pup to gain the strength to eat its way out of the jelly that sealed it away. Whether or not a Wolfwasp can be a Queen is determined at birth. Future Queens receive extra attention from Workers, who dote on them like nannies.
While Warriors do not actually mate, they are able to produce unfertilized offspring, all of which are male. These are future Kings, who will be chased out of the hivepack once they reach maturity around the age of six months. They then have to defend themselves against larger, more established Kings—fearsome opponents, but sometimes their youth and energy can work to their advantage.
During mating season, the otherwise solitary Kings swarm to the site of hivepacks, initiating a bloodmatch that leaves only one male standing. This victorious King will mate with the Queen. He has to move quickly, though: Kings have evolved to have large spikes along their shoulders because once mating is complete, the Queen will turn on him and attempt to kill him. Older Kings are often scarred and disfigured by their run-ins with Queens.
Hivepacks prefer to live in already-established cave systems, but if necessary Workers will dig a system of tunnels, using layers and layers of hardened jelly to provide structure to the walls.
Cultural Significance
Architecture and art in Talon's Rest prominently feature Wolfwasps. Grotesques that sit atop Talon's Rest's stone buildings or wooden totems are often carved in their ferocious image, bearing their fangs to scare off evil spirits.
Wolfwasp byproducts are a staple in trade in the Wind's End region due to its proximity to the Waspwood, the only place on the continent where Wolfwasps are found. Wolfwasp honey is rich, smoky, and salty, with caramel notes. It is dark in color and viscous in consistency. Meads made with this honey have a rich amber hue and malty flavor.
Royal jelly, while not edible to Beasts, is a highly sought after component for several different medicines. The medical program at the University has pioneered several vaccines with this substance, and have teams of Beasts on retainer to retrieve it. It is a lucrative (if not sometimes short-lived) career path.
Corgbees
While wild Wolfwasps are almost impossible to domesticate, over the course of thousands of years Beasts bred the gentlest individuals together to create an entirely new subspecies: the Corgbee.
They've got a long history as herding dogs, and have been synonymous with farm work in Talon's Rest for as far back as anyone can remember. Their compact physique means that they have no problem weaving through the legs of the cows and sheep that graze the surrounding hills.
While a Corgbee can be happy to curl up with its owner at the end of the day, it is a pet that demands regular exercise to prevent it from becoming bored and destructive.
Despite their visual similarities, Corgbees have very little in common with their ancient ancestors anymore. Only one trait remains: they're fiercely territorial, and will protect their "pack" with their lives, if need be.

Thanks for sticking through to the end of the post, we always look forward to sharing our month's work with all of you--thank you for taking the time to read. We'll see you around the Discord.
Hello everyone! Miyazaki here with February's development update for Mythaura. We covered a lot of ground this month—it is probably the single biggest month for us in terms of development. We're excited to tell you about some of the things that we've finished up and look forward to sharing even more features with you in the future.
Note: Last month we'd said that we'd be posting about Wolfwasps...that's postponed until next month. We will be posting Wolfwasp lore as well as hosting a ✨radiant✨ giveaway.
Co-op Demo
Players will be able to explore the world of Mythaura—both overworld locations like Talon's Rest as well as the procedurally generated Wild Areas—in groups of up to three players. If there are only two players, you can add an additional Beast to the party lineup.
Players can no longer be added to a Party if they cannot access the Party Leader’s location (e.g., if the area is not yet unlocked in their game).
When a player joins a Party, they will automatically move to the Party Leader’s location. Any location change must be agreed upon by all Party members.
By default, only friends can invite you to a group. However, we are exploring options for players who may want to allow invites more freely or block them entirely.
If a player disconnects, they can freely reconnect and will be placed back in the same location.
Forums
The Forums are the heartbeat of Mythaura's social scene. Whether you're looking to share your most recent PVP builds, recruit people to join your adventuring party in the Waspwood, or talk about how excited you are for Patch 8 of BG3 to come out (not that anyone's excitedly waiting for that, of course), the Forums will have a place to house your discussion.
Mythaura's Forums feature a Reddit-style posting system, with the ability to create nested replies.
Forums will feature:
Trending threads: What are the most popular recent threads? This feature will showcase threads that are receiving the most engagement at the time.
Tags: Players will have the ability to tag their content, helping other players find and sort through relevant content.
Thread following: Keep updated on threads that caught your interest. We know you're waiting for your favorite artist to release the baby Basilisk Glamour they've been teasing for a while.
Markdown styling to customize your posts exactly how you'd like them
Bug Bounties
During our Closed Beta window, the Bug Reports category will be special in that it will function as an issue tracker. Each thread can be marked as a duplicate of another and have a status & severity tied to it, allowing users to follow a bug, reply to indicate they have also encountered a bug, and see what status a specific bug has.
Bug Statuses
New: The default status
Confirmed: A programmer has been able to replicate the bug and confirm its real
Duplicate: This is a duplicate of an already-existing bug
Fixed: It’s been fixed!
Closed: Closed without fixing, such as if this turned out to be user error.
Severities
Low: Typos, minor visual glitches, asset issues, and browser-specific issues that do not impact gameplay.
Moderate: Functional bugs that cause inconvenience but do not break core mechanics.
High: Major bugs that significantly impact gameplay, progression, or player experience.
Critical: Urgent security vulnerabilities, game-breaking exploits, data loss, or anything that could severely affect the integrity of the game or its economy.
To encourage thorough testing and reporting, players who discover and report new bugs will receive a Shard reward once a programmer has confirmed the issue. Rewards scale based on the severity of the bug. Only the first player to report a bug is eligible for a bounty—duplicate reports will not receive rewards. Players who provide exceptionally detailed reports, including steps to replicate the bug, may receive bonus Shards at the discretion of the development team. If a bug is found to be abused before being reported, the player may not be eligible for a bounty and could face consequences.
User Profiles
Beasts are at the very core of Mythaura gameplay, so we want to ensure that you have several ways that you can show off your cast of characters with the rest of the site.
Featured Beast Groups
The Featured tab allows players to showcase collections of their favorite Beasts in a slider. Players can group beasts into customizable folders with a name and background. Up to 5 groups can be featured on your profile. Show of your favorite beast collections!
Abode
The Abode contains all of a user's Beasts. The two-toned background on each of the Beasts is based on their combination of Elements.
Gallery
Galleries are collections of items users would like to showcase.
Galleries are a separate inventory, so an item in a Gallery cannot be added to the satchel or sold until removed from the Gallery.
Stats
The Stats page will showcase a player's statistics across the Gameplay, PVP, and Forums categories.
Dossiers
A literal blank canvas! Enter your custom HTML and CSS to make pages that are uniquely yours.
