I won't, but I could pull that bottle off that shelf
It helps me cope knowing I could be
that version of myself
Could disappear for a week, for a month, for a year
Wake up at home or in a coffin
It's nice to know I got options

Firenze, amorosa mia
bitch this is all you’re gonna get. this life, this face, this body. you better not ‘maybe in another universe’ your way out of everything. sit your ass down and face this. go make tea and have a picnic and read a goddamn book. kiss your loved ones, send that damn text, and hug your siblings. this is all you’re gonna get.

Franz Kafka, 1912
The soft illusions painted by Richard Gillette are based on a quite private interpretation of Pompeian murals; indeed, they are loose renditions of Venetian architecture rather than direct translations. Gillette's references are ancient and eclectic - a fading mural works with an eighteenth-century German sofa and an Italian stone garden table.
