Immediately after speaking, she realized that she probably shouldn’t have said anything. The other girl was so focused on writing her poem that she had started speaking out loud. Naoto’s words, implying that she was forming a conversation, might cause her to lose focus.

“Ah, my apologies. Ignore me and continue writing, if you’d like.”

Hearing the soft ring of the phone from her pocket was enough to catch her attention. She completely forgot about the conversation she had minutes prior, for only a moment, and thought about who it could be.

As tempted as she was to pull the phone out of her pocket to check, she restrained herself.

“I’m sure whatever it is it can wait. Please continue.”

Naoto is literally the kind of person that will drink black coffee to look tough but secretly hate it. When she’s alone (or when no one’s looking) she might put a bit of sugar in it if it’s too much for her, but usually she’ll tough it out.

She didn’t know very much about her other than the fact that she was a nurse. That, and her secret: several acts of medical malpractice. But, was that the motive?

There were still people left who never had their secret revealed so it was possible that they killed her so their secret wouldn’t get out. But if that was the case, then why didn’t they kill someone earlier? There was no guarantee that their secret would have been kept this long.

There wasn’t any time left to gather evidence because of the arrival of the trial. Naoto hoped that someone had a lead or a possible suspect in mind. She didn’t dare think of the consequences of what would happen if they didn’t find the killer.
