โsurely you understand what i mean now, donโt you, yvette?โ
pressing herself as close to the door as possible away from the ex prime minister, yvetteโs balled fists trembled in her lap. the secretary was now sitting in a car with a traitor on the way to who knows where; as calm as ever, she could tell he was completely prepared. her on the other hand, was nothing short of a poorly concealed mess.
sitting beside her was the pride that she and the lilith kingdom grew to love, despite his upbringing in the north. the surprisingly gentle man that would wipe away the tears from her emerald-like eyes, reassuring her that she wasnโt a failure. the prime minister that was undeniably strict on others in the office, but never seemed to get angry at his secretary. what was she even to call him? he was no longer the man yvette once saw; the man she once fell in love with.
yvette saw her vision getting blurry, her eyes welling up. she hated herself for it. she shouldโve been more hurt over the fact that nidhogg betrayed lilith, or rather the whole of miraland, but she couldnโt bear knowing that everythingโ from the big mistakes and accidents he tenderly forgave her for, to the small actions that would make her heart flutterโ was all a performance, in which her heartstrings were played like a puppet. looking in the mirror, yvette saw the profile of nidhoggโs face, which although was the same as it was a minute ago, what was reflected to her was an entirely different man. not the prime minister of lilith, but the colonel of league tyr.
โyou lied. you lied to everyone. we all loved youโฆ i loved you.โ she choked out, hurt and humiliated. yvette would never have thought this would be what it took for her finally to confess her feelings. she knew he could tell she was crying by now, and she was ashamed, learning that sheโd always been the terrified girl who walked through the grand office doors on the day of the interview.
โi did,โ nidhogg spoke with no remorse, โbut i promise you yvette; itโs for the best of our futureโ for miralandโs future.โ nidhogg said, slightlu turning to look her in the eyes with hisโ dark with a glint of amber, the fire of ambition in his soul with will to change the fate of the world.
โour future..?โ yvette couldnโt bear to look at him. โi donโt want to live a future with a traitor.โ
