so turns out the boy i had a crush on for the past 10years or so likes me back and now i dont know what to do :’) help a sister out!
for a second, just a second, on a positive, much MUCH lighter note, let’s take a moment to applaud henrik’s and tarjei’s performance.
that was nerve-wracking. gut-wrenching. heartbreaking. that was ACTING. they do not get enough credit for what they do.
henrik took on the very, very sensitive task of imitating a manic episode of bipolar disorder and it came through the same way i’ve seen it in real life: terrifying, worrisome, inexplicable.
tarjei’s HEARTBREAK. the way his worry was palpable. the way his eyes teared up, the way he cried at the end. the way he was genuinely concerned about what Even was talking about, how he was rambling on. his immediate jump into action.
you could FEEL all of that, guys. i felt it. i shook with them. i cried with isak. that acting, though.
just. wow.
I think my favorite thing about The Get Down is it explicitly portrays hip hop culture as a geek culture.
You have lit nerds writing poetry and music nerds scratching records and they all have outrageous geeky roleplay personas like “Shaolin Fantastic” and they’re all just nervous awkward teenagers cosplaying and staging “battles” over who can compose the most impressively nerdy beat poetry, with the coolest superhero theme song playing in the background.
I feel like every other hip hop biopic/documentary/historical fiction has made hip hop culture seem like an exclusive “cool kids” club.
I’ve never before seen a portrayal of hip hop saying – the people who created hip hop loved comic books. They drew cartoon characters on their school binders. The people who created hip hop made dorky costumes and bedazzled their jackets, and collected albums like they were Yu-gi-oh! trading cards.
I’ve never before seen a portrayal of hip hop saying – hip hop is and has always been a fandom. It was full of awkward nerds, like every other fandom you know. The people who created hip hop were just like you.
I feel like The Get Down is so affirming and so validating for all the black/brown/poc geeks who grew up thinking that being geeky was a “white thing” – that being geeky meant they “weren’t black/brown/poc enough.”
The Get Down is just a really important show okay.

I JUST SPENT THE WHOLE NIGHT WATCHING SKAM SERIES 1!
I love Noora, Sana, Chris, Vilde, Eva, Jonas and Isak SO SO SO much! The first thing I will say is I cried a lot! From sadness to happiness - this show is so perfect I can’t put it into words! Series 3 is amazing and series 1 is just as good! It was really interesting seeing where these characters journeys start and how they evolve! Noora and Sana are just the best characters in the world! I loved Noora from the short clips from series 1 and 2 that I managed to see but now I’ve finally seen all her series 1 scenes I worship her! She’s THE BEST human! Also it’s really interesting seeing Isak evolve over series 1- he starts out basically unrecognisable to where we find him in series 3! In the first half of series 1 he’s so so so happy and he seems to be happy because he is completely himself - he’s always smiling - he’s even the comic relief in some parts, but by the end of the series he has really changed. What he goes through with his parents and the guilt of what he did to Eva are very clear in his face and in the last 2 episodes especially- you see him evolve into the much quieter and sadder Isak which we see in series 3. This has made me realise that I love Even and I would love them to be together if it’s what will make Isak the happiest, but really all I want for Isak is true happiness and a return to how much he laughed in series 1.

Just wanted to say that tonights episode of Eyewitness is the last one before you Americans have a new president. Keep that in mind. What we are watching, gay protagonists in a TV show, is a something I didnt think was possible in todays society. It is proof that we are heading towards equality. But by the next episode it can all be reversed by an orange baby. Just a reminder to vote. Vote for love. Love for all.

Can I just say that this clip is so important. This particular type of homophobia is quite wide spread even in 2016 and particularly in the gay community. Basically Isak came out of the closet but not as “that kind of gay”. And that prejudiced way of thinking, that flamboyant gay men are somehow lesser than other homosexuals is not a gone and forgotten type of homophobia. Even in Norway it’s still an issue. Hell so many people have disliked Eskild for this exact reason, so for SKAM to bring this up is actually pretty fucking awesome! Thanks SKAM and thank you Eskild!
Honestly, i’m not worried after watching the latest clip. Isak is very ignorant, both about mental illness and homophobia. And he needs to be called out on his behavior. I feel like this talk with Eskild is gonna lead to him figuring things out about himself and his internalized homophobia, and if Even have a mental illness i’m thinking they are gonna have a talk about Isak’s attitude about that as well.
When it comes to the mental illness - and I’m not trying to make any excuses -he is still a kid, and he was a kid when his dad split and his mom had a break down. I think he got scared because he didn’t understand, still doesn’t, and he hasn’t had anyone around him to help him understand. So instead he distanced himself from her because it’s easier.
I think this talk with Eskild was good, in fact i LOVED that scene, because he needed to hear it. Isak and his group of friends are very…“bloke-y”. They talk about girls and hooking up a lot, and on several occasions they’ve thrown the word “gay” around as an insult. And none of that is helpful for a guy who is figuring out how to be okay about his sexuality.
I just wish he could feel comfortable telling Jonas, it seem like he would be supportive and then maybe he could help him as well.

I just wanted to say that although I don’t support NRK’s decision, let’s just leave it behind guys. Don’t send them hate… Our wonderful Norwegian fans provide us with transcriptions and translations and they’re really supportive and understanding so this is not the end of the world. (Btw. I’m seriously considering learning Norwegian rn, thanks NRK…)

I think it’s a shame that they don’t make SKAM available to other countries other than Norway - and sweden/denmark where we all kinda understand each other - by not adding english subs. I started watching the translated clips of isak and even, even though i don’t really need them because I’m swedish, but i’m lazy and I wanted to watch two boys fall in love.
Anyway, i got curious about all the other characters besides Isak and Even, all those people that i’ve only seen in the translated clips on yt. Clips that are from season 3, so i thought i would have to start from the beginning because there where so much that i had missed. To be honest, i didn’t really expect much, i thought i would have to skip a lot of scenes that was really boring, but NO JOKE, i immediately fell in love with the WHOLE SHOW and ALL THE CHARACTERS.
They are all so so relatable, they are teens going through stuff that i recognize, maybe not everything in myself, but i can relate. Not only is the script so good, but the actors, these young actors are so sooo amazing?? there were so many scenes where i could not stop laughing, there where scenes that made me tear up because I recognized the ache within myself, and there where scenes were I had to paus because of all the secondhand embarrassment. And they all made it look so…natural and not at all like grown-ups trying to make a show about teens.
First season we meet Eva and Jonas mostly, and we get to watch them navigate a rocky relationship through trust-issues, well-meaning and not so well-meaning lies. And about figuring yourself out and finding your clique to have your back.
Season two we get to follow Noora. Someone who’s so much more than meets the eye. We will learn more about all the girls and their fierce loyalty to each other, and how they support one another! (Honestly, i thought Vilde was kinda annoying from just watching the clips, but now i LOVE her, and she is so, so much more complex than you would think!)
They are all so so relatable, they are teens going through stuff that i recognize, maybe not in myself, but i can relate. I don’t think it matters that it’s not the same country that I live in, they still go through things that most teenagers does. So it’s a shame that they’ve decided to not add eng subs, but what can you do, the decision has been made!
This got kinda long, but i just started gushing and couldn’t stop.
Anyways, thanks to all the Norwegian fans who supplies the translations so more people can enjoy this awesome show!!
