Why.
As it stood, there was nothing in the world Kagami found to be particularly beautiful, but he could still easily make note of a colorless environment and this certainly was one.
Not even the lake was an exception to that, and his reflection rippling in the murky waters only intensified how unattractive it was. It was somewhat pleasant to fit in so perfectly with the environment – drab-colored and unsightly. More appreciation would be found in it, however, if he knew what the creature was that lurked in the water. He could disturb it, perhaps, but if it was of interest, he wanted to be alive to see it. Many creatures were suspect to destroying any insignificant being or object in their way, after all. It would have been marvelous, he thought, if the last creature of that kind were able to destroy what he wished was ruined. Perhaps he could put hope into the possibility that what was underwater could accomplish that. But he was sure he was expecting too much.
Peace disturbed by a presence behind him, Kagami turned his head to wordlessly acknowledge what was near. He wasn’t fond of interacting with others, but if they were here, maybe they were interested in what was below the dark surface as well. If they had something interesting to speak of, he didn’t want to miss the opportunity.
"Ah, company... How nice. Sit with me if ye would like." He looked over his shoulder, appearing as though he would be disappointed if they refused. "It's far too quiet here, so tellin' me what ye're here for would help..."
shark teeth cannot be healthy so go consult a doctor you idiot!
Slightly upset at the result of her experiment, but still thoroughly impressed with the sheer defence the fence had, Kagura sighed and kicked a few pebbles that were once a part of the rock she had destroyed before watching her unusual spectator with the shark teeth move to lean on a tree. She had warned him there’d be nothing left, so she felt fine with him doing just that, no guilt at all. Still, her attempt had been a failure, so perhaps the rock had been destroyed for nothing. A pity, it really was a good rock, she could have thrown it at some of those people she didn’t like and crushed them instantly. Much more useful, but not all of her enemies were here.
Scanning him over for anything serious and finding nothing, she nodded. A couple of scrapes, that was all, it was the same for her. The tiny shards of rock were almost impossible to dodge after all. ❝I’m glad, I’d probably get in trouble for impaling you with a rock on one of my first days here, aru.❞ It would have been a funny story to tell everyone back home though. They often shared stories of their little solo adventures with one another back home, Gin’s magical walk to the store to buy Jump, Shinpachi running his fan club with the utmost diligence.
❝It’s a shame it didn’t work, aru,❞ She was still sort of looking over the fence, though not approaching it fully. Electricity still hurt, Yato or not, and she wasn’t planning on getting shocked today. Instead, she had used the rock, and it had failed— but at least she was alright and in one piece. That alone was a good thing, she supposed. ❝Mm, I’ll try again another time. I could always try shooting the fence, aru.❞ A shame she didn’t have anything loaded into her umbrella right now. It really did make a handy weapon both for smacking people and shooting them— it was pretty unexpected too. The shock factor that many experienced from her umbrella made her laugh on more than one occasion too anyway, and that’s all she wanted.
Huh? Was she really abnormal?
She supposed humans weren’t really the toughest of creatures when it came to physical strength, so the Yato strength could surprise them. Grinning a little, proud she was being complimented (or at least it seemed like she was), she rubbed her nose and laughed a little. ❝I’m not realy that strange, aru. Everyone in my family is tough, I guess it’s just the way we are. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of the Yato, aru. We’re pretty famous for being strong, you know?❞ Famous for being a terror in space, maybe, but still famous.
❝I am pretty tough though! Being strong is important, I’m pretty cool too. I’m one of those people who never has trouble opening a can, aru. If you ever can’t open a jar or anything, come find me, I’ll totally open it up!❞
Kagami laughed, dryly and quietly. It struck him as amusing that she made such a comment while being unaware just what “trouble” was -- certainly not what she was thinking of. Even with the presented scenario, severe injury or death would have been a high improbability. He had evaded it many times – too many times – and a small girl wasn’t going to be responsible for it even when the time did come. If her stupidity put him into any danger, the only one who would truly suffer from it would be her. The idea of taking a child’s life brought no sorrow to him.
His gaze shifted her direction as she replied, not particularly interested in what she had to say, notable with his disappearing grin. A brow did raise, however, when she mentioned shooting the fence. Kagami cast a glance to it, refraining from displaying any sort of amusement at her foolish idea. If the rock’s behavior was anything to go off of, the bullet would likely ricochet and kill her, or simply be ineffective. A better idea would need to surface, but with her strength, he didn’t particularly want her dead either. She could currently be of use to him.
Turning his body, he stated, “Shootin’ it might kill ye. Try somethin’ else. Perhaps buildin’ rather than destroyin’ will help you, huh?” It was a test, of sorts, to determine if she could come up with an idea on her own without his help. She would be much more worth keeping around in that case.
Yato. He ran the name over in his head, and although the name wasn’t unfamiliar to him, he had never heard of a famed family carrying the name. How abnormal. Usually, he was aware of renowned people and their actions. He supposed she came from somewhere distant, in that case.
“Bein’ strong is important, indeed. But will you really be so generous to a stranger?” For some seconds, he stared, completely still as though he were paralyzed. Then, stepping away almost noiselessly from the shadows of the trees, his features softened. How ridiculous that her offering gave an opening. “Then… May I ask somethin’ else of ye, famous Yato girl?”
“Perhaps, ye could help me out in escapin’ as soon as possible? I’m too weak to do what ye do and getting’ past the fence as it is now is unlikely… I have a family I need to go back to, ye know… I’ll make sure ye don’t get in trouble if ye’re willin’ to help me.”
Ah, more roommates. What a shame.
The dead of night was a vampire’s early afternoon. As his housemates were sleeping easily, Reiji himself was wide awake and active in this time frame. Hungry— naturally so. A vampire hungers quite often, after all. A constant desire for blood. A constant, nagging hunger plagues, and yet Reiji stomachs it all. Feeding carelessly would prove disastrous, he knew this well enough. Upon being addressed, a curious gaze rests upon the stranger’s figure.
"Announce my presence? I need not do such a thing." Especially not to a complete nobody such as this stranger. "You yourself were lingering in the shadows. Spouting such blatant hypocrisies is unbecoming."
Irritating. He should have expected such, as generally every encounter was like that. It was impossible for him to feel fond of someone, but even neutrality was a rarity, and Kagami certainly wasn't feeling it now. Prompt distaste -- how easy it was to feel such a thing.
"Oi, oi, how rude. Ye're right, but I was already here. Did I startle ye, then? Forgive me for bein' careless," he replied, his words clearly carrying no sincerity, notable with his exaggerated tone of guilt.
"Now, ye're one to talk of hypocrites and what is unbecoming, when ye're being so immediately unkind to a stranger. Or is that simply the way ye speak? One should always watch their words..."
How lucky someone else was wandering at such a late time of night. While silence was most often preferable, it could be overwhelming when it almost seemed that no other sounds existed but the ones he made himself. Despicable as people were, company wasn’t always unpleasant; he could take the risk.
"Ah? Did ye get bored inside as well? Ye should announce yere presence next time before ye scare someone."
shark teeth cannot be healthy so go consult a doctor you idiot!
Excellent, he was agreeing to hand over the rock. That was good, since all the other rocks paled in comparison to this particular one’s size. Hopefully, if she threw it hard enough, it could at least make a dent in the fence— that’d be progress, she’d be proud if she could do that much, but if it didn’t, well, she’d have to try again. That’s what scientists did after all, and as of now she was officially naming herself one.
Kagura the Scientist; she’d need to steal a pair of glasses to make it seem official.
❝Sure, I don’t mind spectators, aru. Thanks for letting me have it!❞ She chirped, now examining the rock that was without a man sitting on it. It was bigger up close, maybe the size of her— actually, scratch that, it was the size of her. Looking at herself, then the rock again, then to the fence, she sighed. It wouldn’t be able to be thrown as fast as she liked, but hopefully she could put some power behind it. She could possibly get the same result if she did that, or at least something close.
Oh right, there was still someone here watching. She’d have to factor that in too, he could be an idiot and get hit by shards of a soon-to-be broken rock. ❝Oy, mister, I suggest moving back a little further. It’s only dangerous if you get hit, so I wouldn’t stand so close, aru.❞ And with that, she kneeled down and breathed out, before heaving the rock over her shoulders with a grunt. She hadn’t done such a thing in a while so she wobbled a little, but quickly regained her footing. Then, with eyes meeting the fence, she grinned.
The rock went head first into it with a crash once it was thrown from her hands.
Kagura listened closely to the buzzing of electricity as the rock quickly broke into pieces upon contact, shooting in random directions across the terrain, all of which she dodged— forgetting about the spectator in the processes. Once it was done, she hopped over to the fence and examined it. Not a scratch. Whistling, she had to give it to the fence, it had won this battle. ❝It’s pretty sturdy. I wonder who made it, aru.❞
❝Ah, investigation finished for now— you alright, mister?❞
So it seemed he had found himself involved in something interesting after all. Hit? His eyes widened slightly in surprise. There was no way. To hit someone with such a large rock would mean lifting it, and that was impossible by practically anyone’s standards. With that thought, he was less surprised by the statement and more that she was enough of an idiot to believe she could move the rock at all. Regardless, Kagami smiled and took a few steps away from her. Might as well allow her to embarrass herself. It would only be detrimental to her, after all.
That was what he thought just before she lifted the rock over her shoulders, anyway.
Speechless. He had seen people incredibly strong, but from such a small girl? It was impossible. She had to have been given some sort of drug, or perhaps she was something inhuman. He was impressed even further when she threw the entire thing out of her hands – threw, not dropped.
Cutting off his thoughts for the moment, he quickly evaded many of the broken pieces, with a few of the smaller ones still coming into contact with his face, torso and arms. It was nothing significant, but he did find it annoying – but not quite enough to draw out his weapon. Pressing his fingers against the spots on his face where it stung, he grinned again.
He would have to figure out what was with this girl.
“I’m fine. But ye’re lucky nothin’ flew into my eye…” Lowering his gaze to the remains of the rock, he tilted his head. “Ye’ve got impressive strength, and destroyin’ the fence like that is smart, although it didn’t seem ta work. Perhaps another time…” he trailed off, kicking pebbles away from him. Remembering it was because of a child a rock had been reduced to mere pieces, he felt a sudden contentment. This place wouldn’t be as boring as he thought.
Pulling his hood back slightly to more fully reveal his face, he walked to a nearby tree, leaning against it now that his seat was destroyed. “I haven’t seen many as strong as ye are. Tell me, girl, what is it with ye? Ye’re abnormal..."

Atsuki Saijo was not one to do things that were not necessary, but he found himself pacing outside of the building in which he was housed nonetheless.
Back and forth, restless as his travelling thoughts, he attempted to think on the situation he was in. How long was he to be kept here? Was there any other purpose to be kept here, other than some experiment? If so, was he targeted because he was a telepath of a sort, that he had been brought back from death?
Turning on his heel, his visage for once was anything but calm. Pensive, bridled with barely contained hostility, was quite apparent. He was frustrated, alone, and in a situation where he knew so very little. Not only that, but he’d been branded, and that was painful, of course, it hampered his attempts to use his own abilities. Oh, sure he could use them, but if he did so for so long, the pain inflicted could most likely kill him from the shock alone.
He aggressively shoved that thought aside. He needed facts, not speculation, and he would not be able to do so on his own. But who he would ask?
Certainly not the figure he gazed upon at that moment his thought ran through his head. Though he was not one to judge on appearances, Atsuki was on guard by this man’s shinen. While not hostile, per se, there was something clearly off about this individual.
Hatred. Regret.
Something Atsuki was all to familiar with.
Atsuki’s pacing stopped abrubtly as he whirled to face the stranger with narrowed eyes.
"If you are just going to stand there, speak. Make yourself useful." While he would like to say that he didn’t mean what he said, that he didn’t intend to be rude, but that was a lie. Normally as calm as death, being thrust into a compound with no other explanation other than a simple ‘experiment’, his patience was wearing thin.
And so it was this stranger that would be the target of his venting his aggression.
It was only natural misfortune that would follow him no matter where he went, and really, Kagami wondered if he still possessed the ability to feel satisfied by anything. Perhaps it would do some good to see others suffer with him. That wasn’t exactly pleasant to him either, but at least it somewhat tamed his usual ire. Likely, there was no escape from it; the world was ugly in every sense, from the people to nature’s muted colors. Another thing he couldn’t escape from.
The outdoors had practically become his home, with obvious exception to the duration of time he had been imprisoned. He didn’t particularly enjoy anything about being outdoors, but he had no complaints about it either. It was much more preferable to being inside, surrounded by walls and too close to others for his own comfort. But he felt he would much rather be nowhere at all, someone unknown and nonexistent. Resorting to hatred only had an effect for so long.
Still, he felt that while he was living, he might as well not make waste of it. Granted, there wasn’t much he could do in or around this facility, but observing others was enough for him. People were interesting, as terrible and bothersome as they were. Luckily, someone he could focus on was nearby. Kagami could determine simply from the set of their shoulders that they were bothered. By what, he didn’t know, but he felt it was safe to assume it was the situation they were all suddenly thrown into. It was possible they weren’t accustomed to bad luck, and Kagami was tempted to ask if they were alright. He certainly didn’t care whether they were unhappy or not, really, but there was some entertainment to be found in putting on a face and interacting with people. The possibility to learn something interesting was open in that situation, but he had lost the opportunity when the other turned around to see him.
Perhaps if he had concealed himself more skillfully, a wave of anger wouldn’t have had to surge through him.
Stepping closer, he parted his lips to grin widely, revealing both rows of his sharpened teeth. Such a comment made it too much of a challenge to even falsify neutrality, but he wouldn’t become aggressive. It wasn’t in his nature to immediately attack anyone when they provoked him, but he wasn’t going to make himself out to be someone who responded kindly to a statement of that sort.
“Oh, me. Someone is upset. If I’m useless, are ye any better when ye’re doin’ nothin’ but standin’ there yeself?” His grin widened, almost menacingly before he relaxed and took another step forward. “Ye should watch what ye say to people, huh? Ye might just end up sayin’ it to the wrong person...” Figuring it would be best to try and do what he came to do regardless, he added, “Anyway, if ye’re so upset, ye can talk to me about it rather than get angry… Then I can be useful, ya?”
shark teeth cannot be healthy so go consult a doctor you idiot!
While she had just arrived here and had somewhat listened to the weird invisible man explaining her whole situation during her stay at the facility, Kagura had decided to throw away any disregard to warnings and try to find a way out. She didn’t know anybody here, didn’t really know what to do and didn’t want to meet whoever was making her stomach do the flips, a feeling she didn’t really appreciate. Her body wanted her to stick close to the person, but her mind had other plans.
❝Time to plan a full-scale jailbreak, aru.❞ She hummed to herself, looking around casually at the edge of the grounds where several large rocks sat next to the electric fence. She could throw them at it, a giant rock such as them would surely shatter anything in their path, especially if it was thrown by her. If not, she could try shooting it with her umbrella. Either way, she didn’t really want to stick around such a gloomy place for so long. It was boring. For now, she’d just have to pick out a good sized rock, a decent one, maybe the size of an cupboard.
Oh— there was a good one. Only problem was that a guy was sitting on it. Not a real issue since she could just throw him with the rock, but Kagura guessed being flung at an electric fence didn’t really suit anyone. Might not feel nice. So she placed one hand on her hip and examined the guy, who obviously noticed that she was there, and decided he was weird. His teeth were weird, mainly. How did he have teeth like that?! To be fair, he probably paid a lot of money to a dentist to style them like that, she deducted, but who knew? It was a mystery she could solve another day, so patting a hand on the large rock he sat on, she huffed out a breath and nodded.
❝Can you get off this rock? I need to borrow it for an experiment, aru. You might need a new one, this one might not survive the test. If you want to say a few words for it before it leaves on its journey towards the gratifying succession of science, then I suggest doing it now, aru.❞ Big words from a girl who was just going to chuck it at a fence.
Kagami had accepted the abnormal situation rather well, which came as a shock to him.
Actually, it was less accepting and more tolerating, as having unity with another being was less than desirable unless they were of use to him. Although he was practically imprisoned and couldn’t take much action regarding that, he could at least rid of one nuisance: the one he was bound with. He didn’t know what the consequences of doing so were, but they could not be any worse than being stuck with bearing someone else’s annoying emotions. Even if the consequence was death, Kagami had no complaints. It was much better than suffering, after all. At least for now, he was feeling the same as usual.
Having assumed that being far from the facility would ensure solitude, he felt quite disappointed and annoyed when noticing a girl with bright orange hair was examining him. She was quite the extreme contrast to the dull colors of their surroundings, and he supposed it was pleasant to have something different to look at, but he knew what to expect from people who attracted so much attention in a place like this; she was going to be thoroughly irritating.
Eyes shaded from his hood, he stared at her as she spoke, dull interest in his features. “Ah? An experiment for science, ye say?” Surely it would be a stupid one, but he could amuse her for a bit. Pushing himself up off the rock, he stood off to the side. “Why then, go ahead. I have no words for this rock, but I would like to stay ‘n see ye’re experiment in progress if that’s okay.”
“Is it dangerous? Be careful, girl.” Not that he truly cared what happened to her, but he was truthful in his curiosity. Perhaps he would actually be surprised by what she intended to do, and if not, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to him. Most people he encountered had a tendency to be rather predictable.

Until now, I’ve been living solely off of my hatred and regret. It’s too late to cast it off now. If you’re saying that you’ll allow me to live, are you going to take on this hatred?
