There was this fanfic where Cale died during one of the battles with the White Thing. While everyone was mourning and anxious, the White Thing then possessed Cale's empty body leading to everyone believing that he was actually still alive. Of course, Alberu and Choi Han knew it was sus but they were "happy" nonetheless. Things happened and they discover the truth. Cale's spirit, with the help of the GoD, managed to repossess his body for a few minutes and told everyone they have to end him. The group, with heavy heart, did what Cale told them to do so. Leading to a very heart breaking scene where Cale told his family their strengths and his final words to them before Choi Han strucked him with a finishing blow. And that was how they managed to stop the White thing.

It was angsty but good. I forgot the title of the fanfic unfortunately but it was a good read.
