etherealserena:
“I agree. There’s just something about the summer that makes me feel like anything is possible. No matter how poetically weird that sounds.” Turning to face Natalie, a smile etched onto her lips, she exuded warmth, genuinely pleased to be at the blonde’s side.
“No, I completely agree.” She looked over at the girl, sending her a warm smile. “It’s such a sweet thought that I completely relate to. I hope it’s true.”
hermajestyblair:
“And not at all for the cute lifeguards in speedos?” she asked, peeking at her friend from behind sunglasses, a knowing look. “As much as I adore Manhattan, sometimes one needs a brief reprieve.”
“Oh, that too.” She giggled out, her cheeks flushing slightly at the thought. “Plus, we can get a nice golden glow that everyone will be talking about when we get back.”
marleyxsinclair:
“Well, who doesn’t love the Hamptons?”, Marlene countered amusedly her head tilted to the right. She at least didn’t know anybody who didn’t. “But you don’t really thing that you’re really away from our daily life, do you? I highly doubt that coming here makes us able to escape all the drama we face at the UES daily.” At least, she wouldn’t be able to do it as the people wouldn’t resent her less here than they did at home.
She looked over at the girl thoughtfully. “Probably not, but... A girl can dream, hm? Wouldn’t it be nice to get away from all societal expectations?” She mused, looking out at the water. “Ridiculous, but a dream nonetheless.”
suttonxfitzgerald:
“Would you really consider it a getaway when we’ve all practically migrated over to the Hamptons? I mean, you’re still seeing the same faces daily – well, most of them. It’s practically Manhattan with less pollution and a body of water.”
“True. But the water is nice, and the fresh air is lovely, so. Plus, I feel like it’s easier to avoid the people you don’t want to see. But that’s just me.” The blonde shrugged, looking over at the dark-haired girl.
hunterdavenport:
“I’ve always loved any place that’s far away from my parents. I’m not sure the distance is quite large enough. But it’ll do.” There was an airiness to his tone, just happy to get away from the place he found himself calling home though it couldn’t be further from the truth. “You’ll probably be sick of the sea and salt by the time we leave here.”
“I might be -- but then I’ll be appreciative of the city and the lights!” She shrugged slightly, looking over at him. “We’re far enough away, though. Hopefully this’ll be -- good for all of us.”
danielrhumphrey:
“you’re delusional,” letting out a tired sigh, “if you think this place will ACTUALLY solve your problems. they’re still there even while you’re downing that bottle of— whatever.”
“I don’t -- down bottles.” The blonde wrinkled her nose, looking over at him, her chin held high. “You must be mistaking me for someone else.”
“I’ve always loved the Hamptons.” The blonde mused, a gentle smile on her face, her cheeks just slightly flushed in the sun. “It feels like a nice getaway from real life for a bit.” She ran her hand through her hair, looking around. “I’m a sucker for sea and salt.”
“What a world we live in. I want to be incredibly close to the heart of it all. To live honestly, truthfully and to be completely present is the ultimate enterprise.”
Being perfect isn’t easy, but Natalie Vanderbilt has always been up to the task. The pride and joy of the Vanderbilt family, with her golden halo of hair, her soft, eloquent way of speaking, and the gentle smile that curves across her porcelain face. There’s just something about Natalie - it could be the way she looks at you, or how she leans in closer to you when you’re speaking, or maybe the sparkle in her eye - that makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the world.
Outwardly, she exudes confidence, but not in a overt way. She is the girl that every man would love to bring home to their mother and she is every picture of the innocent Vanderbilt angel. One might never guess that she’d never wanted to play that role. She had always played by the rules set forth by the Vanderbilt family, if only to keep up appearances, but what goes on behind the curtain could diminish the family legacy in under a minute.
Being perfect isn’t easy, just as being easy isn’t perfect. The first time Natalie Vanderbilt was paid for sleeping with a man, it was an accident. For her, sleeping with her father’s colleague had been a silent revenge against his never-ceasing expectation of perfection, but for the colleague in question, it was a huge mistake. A mistake he paid her a substantial amount to keep quiet. Multiple times.
It had always struck a chord of irony within her, that the men that rub elbows with her father during the day would be the same ones who would pay her take her clothes off. For Natalie, it was never about the money. It’s a largely known fact that the Vanderbilt family has plenty. It was more about her inner desire to feel as perfect as she pretended to be, to be good enough - even if it was only for 60 minutes in the penthouse suite of the Hilton. For awhile, Natalie was content with her secret sexcapades, despite the steady flow of worry and shame that someone might find out how she was spending her free time.
The closer Natalie came to graduating high school, the more her parents were nagging her to do as they wished, and the less the worry and shame bothered her. When she was accepted into Yale, she graciously declined, much to the chagrin of her parents, instead opting for an Ivy closer to home, and closer to her “business,” Cornell University. During her years as an undergrad, her repertoire of clients only increased, now encompassing men from CEOs to Senators, all willing to pay top-dollar to screw her in a much different way than her father had most likely screwed them.
Bringing in another woman to her little business had never been part of the plan, but with her ever-expanding clientele and a new job at one of New York’s top PR agencies, desperate times had called for desperate measures. Under the guise of a much older woman, Natalie had found the perfect partner, who found another partner, and so on, until she had become the head of something far more illegal than she had ever intended.
♔ EMMA VANDERBILT ♔
Natalie’s little sister, always stepping just a little too far. Though she would never admit it to Emma, and the petty scowls Natalie throws her way are enough to throw anyone off, she’s always been jealous of her. With her wildness and her hair always a mess, broadcasting her individuality, throwing herself at guys in front of everyone - stuff that Natalie would never have the guts to do in public, only behind closed doors. To this day, the relationship between the Vanderbilt sisters remains rocky, the two of them rarely seeing each other outside mandatory family dinners and holidays. Regardless of their parent’s opinions about Emma’s career choice - and they have been very vocal about their disapproval - Natalie is proud of Emma for the work she’s been doing as a writer, though she would never say it to her sister’s face.
♕ FLETCHER MURDOCH ♕
Natalie’s biggest fear in life is that someone she knows will find out her dirty secret. When the day came that Natalie knocked on the heavy wood of a five-star hotel door, ready to lay her self bare to yet another high-powered businessman, only to find Fletcher Murdoch staring back at her was the day she saw her whole world crumble. The best thing about sleeping with high-powered businessmen? Insurance. If they leaked her secret, it would be admitting that they had had sex with a minor and paid for it. Though she ran away before Fletcher had a chance to utter so much as a single syllable, her secret suddenly found its way into someone else’s lap. Though it’s been years, and Natalie has done her best to avoid the blonde, there’s a constant, nagging fear that Fletcher might expose her secret, or worse - try to talk to her about it.
♔ OCTAVIA BASS ♔
Of all the people in the world, Natalie never thought she’d become friends with Octavia Bass. Where Natalie was brilliant, white light, Octavia was an endless night, with her snark and glamour. She’s known Octavia for years, but she had never really talked to her until their senior year of high school, when the two were both a tad too drunk on martinis at a charity gala. When Grace Buckley had left, Natalie had been left trying to fill the void of their friendship and it seemed that Octavia was the perfect lady for the job. Despite Grace and Octavia not having anything in common, Natalie had done her best to keep both of her friends close, though she has to admit that her and Octavia share a much different kind of bond than her and Grace ever had, and she doesn’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing.
♕ SEBASTIAN VOORHEES ♕
It had been quite some time since Natalie had done anything specifically for herself. With her clients, she was becoming their fantasy; with her parents, she was becoming theirs. She had been trained to appreciate the mundane in their world, and she never saw Sebastian Voorhees coming. He was every picture of a spoiled, rich kid, but with a zest that could only come from being a true Californian. Thus far, Natalie has only seen Sebastian out a handful of times and each time she has been enamored by his presence, so much so that she’s begun going out of her way just to run into him.
♕ NATE ARCHIBALD ♕
Family was an important part of being a Vanderbilt, as any one of her many cousins could attest. Natalie and Nate had grown up together, living so close to one another, she saw him almost as much as she saw her sister. In fact, whenever he came over, she saw him the same amount as her sister, because the younger pair were constantly running off on some adventure, whispering behind closed doors while Natalie was left outside. She never felt particularly resentful because of this, but she’s always been a tad jealous of the relationship Nate and Emma share to this day.
♔ MARLEY SINCLAIR ♔
Natalie and Marley have a particularly odd relationship, though Marley hasn’t got a clue that it exists. Many would look at the two of them and think that they have absolutely nothing in common, which is true, except for one glaring exception. Marley knows Natalie as Ms. Margaret Baldwin, the pseudonym Natalie chose to maintain her anonymity, despite being at the center of a project that is 100% illegal. When Natalie first noticed Marley’s name had been brought into her roster, her stomach dropped. She feels insanely guilty for roping one of her peers into her mess, and has been trying to figure out a way to push Marley out of the game without giving up her own identity.
♔ VANESSA ABRAMS ♔
Natalie had never been in the market to seek people out on her own, the growth of her “business” had escalated beyond her control before she had the chance to stop it. Looking back now, she’s not even sure that she would. One person that she could see being a formidable asset, however, was Vanessa Abrams. She’d heard whispers through the grapevine that Vanessa was working as a stripper at a high-class gentleman’s club, which would broaden her clientele that much further. Natalie hasn’t made any true plans thus far, but has been considering approaching Vanessa and snaking her into her little game.
NATALIE VANDERBILT is currently UNAVAILABLE. Her faceclaim is DIANNA AGRON and it is SEMI-NEGOTIABLE.

CONGRATULATIONS, JEN! You have been accepted for the role of NATALIE VANDERBILT
ADMIN NOTE: I’ve read a fair few applications for the one and only Natalie Vanderbilt in my time, and each time I’ve found that the applicants all bring something slightly unique to the character. This application in particular stands out to me on so many different levels, so unique is your version of Natalie, Jen. I believe I’ve said once before how I appreciate the fact that you’ve totally captured the perfectionist Natalie, as well as the more dirty and raw side of her. As Nate’s new player and in welcoming a new Emma, I thoroughly look forward to the mess the Vanderbilt clan is about to get into. WELCOME TO THIS SIDE OF PARADISE, JEN! Please follow the instructions on the checklist, submit your account to obtain the link to the OOC blog and don’t forget - sometimes having your dreams come true can feel like a nightmare, because getting what you want always comes with strings attached.

CONGRATULATIONS, JEN! You have been accepted for the role of NATALIE VANDERBILT with the faceclaim of DIANNA AGRON.
I’ve said it once and, odds are, I’ll say it again: the Vanderbilt sisters were two of my absolute favorite characters to write in this whole process. Natalie, especially, has evolved so much since the original opening of TSOP. The best thing about the Natalie you’ve envisioned, Jen, is that she’s the very image of the pristine girl she’s always been, but she’s also a little dirty. She’s unafraid of sex in a way that I think many would guess her to be in her line of work, and there’s a perfect amount of Emma in your Natalie that I just adore. Your passion for the character is unquestioned - welcome to the family, Jen!
