Autumn listened, letting him ramble about his passion. It was adorable when someone adored something like that. “No, it’s cute.” She assured, shaking her head gently at his apology. “You’re a big dog lover, too, I’ve noticed. Do you work in a shelter or something?”

He blushed slightly. Not many found his ramblings cute. “Uh- no. I work at an animal shelter.” He clarified. “I just really love dogs.”

Benjy put his hands up defensively. “I’m just trying to understand. We don’t have to talk about your sex life though. Or my lack there of.” He murmured that last part to himself. “Your fluffy little child is great. I love being a dog uncle. I can’t be a dog dad, though. I don’t have time. Just get a brother for Chewie. It’ll be practically the same thing. Well, I’m only 4 years from 40. Single. No dogs. You’ll be better off than me.”

Nate rolled his eyes again, his brother could be so annoying at times. “You are a great dog Uncle.” He agreed. His brother would have made an amazing uncle to his daughter. “Well, mom will be bugging you for grandkids at some point.” He said. “We can be single bachelors together.”

“No! I love ugly villagers! I am trying to get all dog villagers, even the ugly ones. I think all of the villagers are amazing and props go to all the wonderful creators that created them. I almost majored in video game design - “ He paused for a moment when he realized he was rambling. ‘Sorry, I ramble too much.”

“Why is it weird? I’ve been married, and we know you lost your virginity in high school. At this point we’re old and it shouldn’t be weird anymore.” Benjy chuckled at his brother’s reasoning. “You do love your dog a lot. But I’m sure a lot of people find that endearing. Just the other day, this one chick was doing everything she could to convince me to get a dog. I’m sure you would get along great.” With a sigh, Ben did his best to pretend like he was actually ready to date someone else. “Marriage is a deal breaker for you, and it’s a deal breaker for guys like me too I guess? I don’t know what to tell you?” He shrugged nonchalantly. The truth was, he’d never find someone like Caroline.

“I prefer not to talk about my sex life with my brother.” Nate said with a shrug. “Well, he’s like my child.” Nate defended, he knew he seemed over the top with his love for Chewie, but he didn’t care.. He loved Chewie, and he might be that dog dad, but Chewie deserved it. “But, I think you should get a dog too. Chewie needs a cousin.” He said. “Well, guess i’ll be forever single with 3 dogs running around by the time I’m 40.”

“You just burn them.” Charlotte blurted. “I mean, you do what you want with them but they’re memories you’d love to revisit someday. And I’m sure as a graphic designer you could do a better job with it, maybe someday work with animation and someone might even make it a movie.”

“I would, but my mom would be sad as she loves keeping out old art work. Maybe, I should. That sounds like a great idea.” He said with a smile. “So, do you have any pets?”

Charlotte let out a breath through her nose, deciding that it was better to avoid the topic. “Teaching’s great. Can be a little hard at times because it’s me against fifteen little people who’d rather be running around than learning anything. But it’s great, that’s for sure.” She wanted to reassure him that he was truly sorry and didn’t want to completely ignore the subject, but felt like he didn’t need that right now. The fact that he was still talking to her in the first place was enough. “Talk to me about those embarrassing drawings? I promise I won’t make fun of you.”

“I don’t know how you do it, especially how wild they can be.” He said. He wished his daughter was alive so he could see her running around, excited to learn - since she was part him she had to be an eager learner too. Nate laughed and shook his head. “One fought bullies - I forget his name, but my drawing was horrendous, I’m sure my mom has it kept somewhere, but I want to burn it.”

“Halloween, because, I love horror movies and being able to dress up. Plus, you don’t get judge so much for eating candy.”

Charlotte gaped at him, immediately regretting the words that came out of her mouth. When he immediately changed the subject, she went along with it. “Batman and Superman are… really cool. My favorite is Antman but not because I’m a fan of those I just… really… like Paul Rudd- hey I’m sorry.” She admitted, feeling terrible.

He noticed her reaction and felt awkward. It was the same reaction everyone had. “Antman is pretty awesome.” He agreed. “Thanks..There’s these moments where I forget, and I just feel horrible about forgetting her, but it happens, accord to the shrinks I’ve seen.” Nate said. “Uh, so what’s teaching like?”

How did your family originally react when they found out you had knocked up Jenna?

“My mom cried, and everyone was shocked. They were pretty pissed. They pushed me to get married, but my parents were kinda excited to be grandparents.”

“Oh please, at the age of 27, you could be the father of a newborn, not a six year old. Unless you’ve had a little slip up at the age of 21.” Charlotte nodded, “Yes! Would you really do that? They’d be delighted.” She paid attention to him talking about himself. She really enjoyed listening to people. “That is so cool, specially the superheroes part of it all. Do you draw existent heroes or do you create your own?”

“I had a slip up at 18, but uh she was stillborn.” He admitted. There was sometimes that he forgot, that he could have been the father of a 9 year old. He hated the feeling when he forgot and it came flooding back to him. “I will be happy too. Kids are awesome.” He said trying to change to the subject. “I draw existent heroes like Batman, Superman, Baymax. I used to make my own as a kid, but they were uh vey embarrassing.”
